We know more will be coming shortly after the WS is over.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Reliever waiver claims are a good strategy, maybe AA catches lighting in a bottle like Wagner. Problem is lack of 40 man roster spots

Problem is lack of 40 man roster spots Eventually the spots run out and you have to move someone. It would be nice to grab another Wagner providing they don't blow his elbow out.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 AA's ultimate goal is to have the entire pitching staff of Buffalo on the 40 man roster, just in case.
ColdPint Verified Member Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I'm thoroughly disenfranchised by this s***. Bullpen depth, blah blah blah. Whatever. Make some deals that add wins. #lovethisteam!
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Dumb thread, sorry OP. It may very well be, but lets not forget last year this time when we thought all of the waiver pickups would just be footnotes to the other big offseason moves for a SP, 2B, etc. Turned out, the waiver claims were the actual novel and not the footnotes.

I know everyone dishes AA,s continued moves with RP,s but right now we have room on the 40 man roster and not much that needs to be added. 3 holes in the bull pen and at least one needs to be a guy with options. If AA can grab that option guy off waivers and fill that hole it means one less guy he has to trade for . With an option guy in the BP and a couple more of them in Buffalo it stretches the BP so we always have fresh arms . Just smart use of the AAA team being so close.

Make some deals that add wins. #lovethisteam! Well as fans we'll always be disenfranchised really, unless the GM took advice from fans, which if he did, I'd suggest he gets canned. Fact is, AA can't make big moves right now, fans need to be patient until the offseason. Irrespective though, forcing gargantuan moves could set this team back further possibly, like it did when we traded for Dickey. I don't care to risk any more pitching prospects for veterans at this time. The rotation really needs to be built internally for us to succeed.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I'd rather have these guys than the relievers I'm expecting AA to overpay this off-season, namely K-Rod ("proven closer") and Oviedo (former closer with "proven closer" pedigree).
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Schulz had good PD stats in his brief MLB look and has a live arm. Maybe there's something there.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 GREAT PD STATS cf I'm more comfortable characterizing them as 'good.' Schulz's slider drew six whiffs in 25 pitches and he got plenty of chases overall. Maybe he's one of those guys who will turn a corner converting to relief full-time.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 What did the waiver claim cost ? A roster spot we don't need for anyone special and a little paperwork. The AA haters on this board need to at least put some common sense into their hate posts . Buffalo needs some arms too and if he is any good and clears waivers then great if not a little more paperwork and he is gone. Not like there is any great talent we are going to lose cause we added him to the 40 man roster.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Is there going to be a defensive stat category, "Whining Hard About Moogy Mocking You (WHAMMY)"? BTS might actually be competent in that one. And then he can explain to everyone how he thinks his crying will help, and how he's surprised at their crying strategies. It's full, sorry
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Buffalo needs some arms too and if he is any good and clears waivers then great if not a little more paperwork and he is gone. 1. He doesn't need to clear waivers he's got options. 2. Buffalo needs arms...if Schultz is going to be a reliever we don't need relievers on the 40 man in Buffalo. After years of wasting 40 man spots on minor league and injured relievers, he got much better at it this year. Your back relievers should waiver claims or minor league starters. As it turns out that for the first time in AA's tenure we don't really have a roster crunch (could it because of point number 2 above??) so picking up a guy who will compete for a bullpen spot is fine at this point.

Hopefully AA has a better off season this year.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I'd rather have a BP arm off of waivers during the playoffs when nothing else can be done than have one that was claimed off waivers just a few months before and AA trades a catcher just before a breakout year and needed MIF depth for him.

I hear but not reasonable at all. At the time people were lamenting trading aviles rather then gomes. Its like Seattle trading Choo
