vdartanian Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I agree with what you said except for "needing a hit out of the lower part of the order." Kawasaki is a fundamentally sound player who is an asset off the bench. He doesn't deserve a starting job and the love the fans shower him with is due in part to gimmick and the "Rudy" effect than it is "this guy is a crucial part of our team and if we don't have him, we don't win." I turned the press conference off when the dumb f*** reporter brought up the question about Kawasaki, and almost puked when Alex gave his response. Sounded like he had given more thought about whether or not to bring that scrappy below replacement level player back next year then any other subject that was brought up.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I would rather we package dickey Reyes and Thole and keep buehrle if we are trying to save on payroll. I even eat 12 mill make it happen now! Or sooner then later! 15 if they take izturis too! 18 if they want Romero for giggles as well! Who too you ask ? I don't know! Lol But I wouldn't mind sanfran for Scutaro and one of Crick or Blackburn! Scutaro's been done for awhile. His back is a mess.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I was thinking Minnesota. Yeap. Sano for Happ
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Escobar + Davis for Dickey + Thole + Nolin? Jays move Reyes to third, Lawrie to second. Makes a great defensive infield. Davis in the closer. KC makes up for losing Shields with Dickey, Nolin is a decent prospect. Kidding? Reyes can't handle softer hit balls with more time at short and constantly throws balls away. And you want him at 3B where he'd get eaten alive by liners and be throwing even more balls away. f***ing brilliant!!
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 $12 million for Kuroda would be a bargain. He's been one of the most consistent starters in baseball and has proven he can pitch well in the AL East. He's been worth between 3.5 - 4 WAR the last three season in the Bronx. Sliding him into the rotation with Dickey, MB, Stroman and Hutch would look pretty nice. He's a significant upgrade over JA Happ. Why didn't you keep bidding on him then?

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Your exact words you lunatic! You have to admit though, lots of fans get so wound up when their team gets on a little roll and they think its a playoffs they'll be going.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Red Sox and Yankees will make the playoffs again before the Blue Jays do. Uh, no. Yanks are a mess, and Boston is more a 2016-17 likelihood for postseason play.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Uh, no. Yanks are a mess, and Boston is more a 2016-17 likelihood for postseason play. Someone sig this right now.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Boston doesn't have a 5-year policy, like I told you last time. Yes they do. Most Boston fans don't expect Boston to sign a big name starter, and more likely will destroy their farm system by trading for Hamels, Cueto, or some other expensive high-end guy on a club that is either rebuilding(Phillies) or in serious financial trouble (Reds).
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Uh, no. Yanks are a mess, and Boston is more a 2016-17 likelihood for postseason play. Yankees and Red Sox in the playoffs next year confirmed.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Yep just signed Rusney to a 7yr deal in fact. Let me clarify.. I meant DOMESTIC free agents, usually over 30, Boston has a 5-year policy on, especially pitchers. And there's no guarantee the Castillo contract works out.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Yankees and Red Sox in the playoffs next year confirmed. next year and 2016 and 2017 and 2018
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Scutaro's been done for awhile. His back is a mess. Who cares about that we save 24 mill minus 6 mill for scutaros salary coming back! 18 mill we can use,if Scutaro can do more then draw on baseballs and mentor Lawrie and goins, win win! Plus we get another arm for depth in the minors! I take it!
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 137 million payroll. Thats enough money. AA is just an idiot. Who said the following prior to the 2013 season: The Jays could start the season 40-40 and still make the playoffs relatively easy
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Five year policy still firmly in place. What a f***ing retarded policy. I get the logic that you don't want to commit long term to a pitcher but christ.... Why even put that on paper? Every situation is different. nothing like giving the enemy your play book. lol what an idiot.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 For some reason I get the feeling Lind is not back next year. I think AA just might be dumb enough to decline that option, and some how put Francisco as his replacement.

They might trade Lind, but there's no way they pay a mil and let lind walk.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I was thinking Minnesota. Happ for Pinto makes sense if you think Pinto's bat will play at 1B. I'm still not comfortable heading into the season expecting Sanchez to be a starter though. Signing a cheap veteran would be good if they trade Happ.

Use the money to resign Melky he can DH full time, back up lf and Mayberry jr can replace and spell EE when needed !

Use the money to resign Melky he can DH full time, back up lf and Mayberry jr can replace and spell EE when needed ! Adam Lind was top 15 in the entire mlb in wrc+ this year. The Yankees will pay 10s of millions of dollars for mediocre players having off years when they get desperate at the trade deadline. They took on Drew's contract. You may not want to keep lind, but you pick up his option and trade him because he's an asset that would get something in return.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Also who is Edwin's, cano's or Melky's and Joey batz's hitting coach off season wise? Same guy?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Also who is Edwin's, cano's or Melky's and Joey batz's hitting coach off season wise? Same guy? we should seriously get this guy on the payroll! Maybe he could teach lind to hit lefties....you'd want to keep him then

Not sure a injury prone 1 st baseman who needs a platoon partner will not not you much and if there are no takers your stuck with 7 million dollars of salary that can be better used elsewhere!

Hire him to work for our minor league system!

I'm still not comfortable heading into the season expecting Sanchez to be a starter though. Signing a cheap veteran would be good if they trade Happ. If Sanchez goes to Buffalo along with Norris for the reps they need starting, I'd rather they keep Happ as the #5. Keep him happy, give him his regular run in the rotation at the 5 spot and when Sanchez or Norris are ready move him.

Dont forget the Yan Gomes give away, in a deal that we also traded our Manager, and got nothing in return. Well less than nothing
shortstop Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Happ IMO has figured out how to be successful in the league - 4-5 starter but whatever. Question is if he has an ok to decent 2015, what will he cost on the open market? What can u get for him now vs at the trade deadline? Based on the presser today, AA is following the expected script - some changes, some $$ to spend & go for it again next year IMO.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Do you really want to bet on this administration? Dont forget the Yan Gomes give away, in a deal that we also traded our Manager, and got nothing in return. Well less than nothing sure...how much do you want to bet. I think the jays pick up Lind's option. I'm not saying they won't deal him, but I'm saying they won't pay him 1 million and let him walk. Losing Gomes was a shame, but I don't think there were many that would have predicted what he would turn out to be when he was dealt. Lind is an established player.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I don't have a problem with Lind as a DH/1B. Just find another solid platoon partner, someone who can also play a position. A Lind/Van Slyke or Lind/Gomes platoon would be great. Though I'm sure we likely see Lind/Mayberry instead.
