jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I think you could possibly get Shields on a 4-5 year deal, nothing more since he's going to be 33 next season. He'd be a great fit at the top of the rotation. If not, then even going after a solid vet like Kuroda wouldn't hurt. Shields Dickey MB Stroman Hutchison AAA: Sanchez, Nolin, Norris BP: Capuano, Jenkins (long men capable of making starts) The Jays are 10 starters deep right there, even if they trade Happ.
Smokey Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Always positive Boxy AA has been VINDICATED!!! LMFAO
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Reading this thread was way more entertaining than watching the press conference would have been. Not that i ever do watch it. Now i have no f***ing idea what the f*** is going on,or what the f*** is going to happen.LOL IMO-it basically boils down to bad injuries at the worst time, and not being able to overcome or deal with it,with any depth, and it all goes back to the hockey deal. The 92-93 teams had money. This team has to rely on luck to win. I,ve seen this too many times now.We have been so close for so long, and its wearing me down.LOL There should also be a presser for Rogers officials on what is going on. Hope for the best. 137 million payroll. Thats enough money. AA is just an idiot.

Our internal options are good enough. I don't want to spend 12 million on Kuroda. The money can be better spent elsewhere.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Red Sox and Yankees will make the playoffs again before the Blue Jays do. bold prediction here
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I think its fair to assume there wont be an increase in payroll. So if you get rid of Buehrle and his 19 mill contract, you hope the money is spent more effectively and either Sanchez or Norris can fill his spot. I would rather we package dickey Reyes and Thole and keep buehrle if we are trying to save on payroll. I even eat 12 mill make it happen now! Or sooner then later! 15 if they take izturis too! 18 if they want Romero for giggles as well! Who too you ask ? I don't know! Lol But I wouldn't mind sanfran for Scutaro and one of Crick or Blackburn!
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Don't know why people are upset jays have a chance of finishing 2nd in the AL east. That alone gives Wilner 5 years of ammunition
shortstop Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 What quality positional player I wonder could be nabbed for Lind/Happ?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Happ was worth his salary based on Fangraphs this year, so I'm not sure why everyone is going crazy about keeping him. It's better to have an MLB starter as the #5 starter and let Sanchez/Norris prove they are ready rather than just sticking the latter two in the big league rotation and expecting to get good results. Keeping Happ is common sense. Sanchez and Norris will be in the 2016 rotation anyway (Happ and Buehrle are FA's and Dickey has a team option). No need to rush them. The key for this team will be what Alex does with 2B and LF. Unfortunately he will keep Reyes at SS, which sucks, but get an improvement at 2B (or 3B) and improve the OF situation. Alex going after relievers isn't a surprise. With Janssen, McGowan, and Santos leaving, and Delabar ineffective, they pretty much only have 2 dependable relievers (Cecil and Loup) if Sanchez is moving back to the rotation. They'll need to fill the bullpen up regardless.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 But I wouldn't mind sanfran for Scutaro and one of Crick or Blackburn! What even is this San Francisco obsession
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 So after today I'm feeling a new avvy.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Escobar + Davis for Dickey + Thole + Nolin? Jays move Reyes to third, Lawrie to second. Makes a great defensive infield. Davis in the closer. KC makes up for losing Shields with Dickey, Nolin is a decent prospect.

The money can be better spent elsewhere. $12 million for Kuroda would be a bargain. He's been one of the most consistent starters in baseball and has proven he can pitch well in the AL East. He's been worth between 3.5 - 4 WAR the last three season in the Bronx. Sliding him into the rotation with Dickey, MB, Stroman and Hutch would look pretty nice. He's a significant upgrade over JA Happ.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 this presser proves AA knows as much about baseball as a casual fan he's a P/R guy primarily

You always attack a few of us who you classify as OLD . Does old make us any less baseball fans Do you think this builds you up in the minds of the young kids on this board. You laugh but I retired at age 54 because I was smart enough to work hard invest well and can now afford to travel where I want , hunt and fish all over the world and watch baseball eventually at every MLB stadium . I think I'm having the last laugh And now while you slave away I'm going bow hunting.

Smokey Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Gotta love winning . hell even the GDT are more positive. This is a good team with a killer offense. Happ has pitched as good as you can expect from a 5th starter and I do believe dickey will get control of that Knuckle ball. bull pen has been really improved with Mcgowan,s addition. AA has been vindicated Your exact words you lunatic!

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 i'm aware of this but i don't like the idea of purely getting rid of buehrle as a salary dump. there's far too much risk in hoping sanchez or norris can fill in for a 200 inning workhorse There's 6-7 free agents right now I'd rather give the 19+m to than Buehrle next year. So if the Jays were to get anything of value in return for him on top of the money saved for a better long term player why not do it?
Smokey Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Come hunting with me Boxy. LMFAO I would love to... But only if holding a rifle would help you grow some balls so can finally stand behind your own words.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 He is a useful small ball player. Can deliver a BB or bloop hit when you really need one out of the lower part of the order. I agree with what you said except for "needing a hit out of the lower part of the order." Kawasaki is a fundamentally sound player who is an asset off the bench. He doesn't deserve a starting job and the love the fans shower him with is due in part to gimmick and the "Rudy" effect than it is "this guy is a crucial part of our team and if we don't have him, we don't win."

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 0 wrong with Happ as the 5th starter True. But with the arms we currently have and aside from me wanting trades to happen, this is what I believe the rotation should look like going into 2015. Dickey, Stroman, Buehrle, Hutchison, Sanchez as much as I love Norris, he needs to go to Buffalo and pitch for a bit there. Happ in the bullpen or Buffalo becomes an annoying piece of crap and there's no reason to waste him in either scenario.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I don't expect them to move him but i like some sort of deal with KC. They need a starter and Happ in that big ball park should do OK . Happ/Davis type of deal. Both make around 7 mil. I was thinking Minnesota.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Eeeeww god please no. Our internal options are good enough. I don't want to spend 12 million on Kuroda. The money can be better spent elsewhere. It will cost a lot more than 12m to get Kuroda here. And even then, I'd prefer him over Buehrle.
