GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Goal is to win ball games. Which is achieved by maximizing runs generated.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Not always. If a player leads off the bottom of the ninth with a triple, in a tie game, should the next batter be trying to hit a two run homer? Eh, my philosophy when hitting is just to make the best contact humanly possible and whatever happens, happens.
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Eh, my philosophy when hitting is just to make the best contact humanly possible and whatever happens, happens. But I think that is the problem with the Blue Jays. It should be easier to choke up on the bat, shorten ones swing and just make contact. Trying to make the best contact humanly possible seems to result in a lot of wild swinging strikes by the Blue Jays when just a bunt, sac fly or ground ball to the right side of the infield would win the game.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 It's not black and white though. It's not like you either have to kill it or bunt. You should just try and hit the ball well and if it clears the fence cool, but a bunt isn't good contact; it's a free out.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Goal is to win ball games. I hope you see how dumb this post is.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Then you're probably a pretty s***** situational hitter. I am to hitting how you are at posting. Mediocre, disappointing and people avert their eyes while it's happening. But at least every once and a while I don't make a total fool of myself and I blast one into the corners so we're different in that regard.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 They've been playing "small" ball all year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 They've been playing "small" ball all year. LOL yeah kinda. The kind where they get a runner on base and fail to score him unless Bautista hits a home run.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Please. You wouldn't be ripping sweet fck all into any corners because you'd be swinging at pitches designed to get you to strike out ie out of the zone. Yes, swinging at pitches three feet out of the zone is a wonderful strategy. Dear f***.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 It's not black and white though. It's not like you either have to kill it or bunt. You should just try and hit the ball well and if it clears the fence cool, but a bunt isn't good contact; it's a free out. If we had hitters who were adept at bunting, or were developed to be complete hitters and be able to hit to all fields, I actually wouldn't mind guys laying down a sac bunt or try and bunt for hits the odd time. It puts the idea in the opposition's head that they may bunt. Or if the guys were taught how to spray the ball to all fields, teams would be mostly playing us straight up defensively instead of shifting.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Yeah it hasn't really been working very well for Pillar,Rasmus,Francisco,Tolleson,Gose,Goins, etc this year either. Hm. Maybe they should focus on making contact rather than laying down bunts and making even more outs.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I want the Blue Jays to play .500 ball for 10 more years because 20 isn't enough.
