Upper Hand?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 Breaking news: melky to decline qo offer Duh. But the Jays will have a good chance of keeping him.. very few teams will pay $15-$16M on a non-elite OF that is attached to draft pick compensation.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 Upper Hand? I meant they have a good chance of bringing him back.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 This was a no brainer though Now, kindly extend him for 3 years 37.5M

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Given how much AA has been struggling to address the team's needs, it might be best to take advantage of the exclusive negotiation windown and Melky's apparent interest in coming back. A bird in the hand and all that... I really don't love the idea of committing to Melky a second time as opposed to just taking the pick but it's kind of a damned if you do and damned if you don't kind of a scenario.

I think they have already attempted to resign Melky and fail I can't see Melky coming back to be honest other teams have crazy money. Right now it's looks like a Bautista - Gose - Pillar/Mayberry Jr outfield with maybe Pompey getting a may or june callup
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Worse case he accepts, we have him back on a one year deal, they repeat the same next offseason if they don't deal him at the deadline next year. Worse case he declines, Jays net a pick, he cashes in elsewhere and the Jays stick whomever in LF. I have the feeling he'll be back unless someone comes out of the woodwork and offers him a multiyear deal. Maybe they'll try to give him a 2-3 year deal or some kind of deal since there is mutual interest and the Jays have to do something to save face and make it look like they're not going to repeat the cycle of incompetence of blowing their load early, getting close to the playoffs, not doing enough to make a push, falling out of it, getting back into it, only to let players walk and stick in some AAAA player or some "prospect" who simply doesn't cut it and by no means comes close to what they lost/gave away.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 ^ Melky will know early on what he can get. Prob already has something Bautista made a comment on the fan the other day about Jays choosing to go with young guys. He was referring to them.not ponying up.for Melky My guess is AA tried a 3/40 deal with Melky and failed. Melky probably gets 4/60 from someone
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I don't mind if Melky leaves, but Pillar better not be the starting LF if he does. I'd rather give Melky a contract similar to Robinson Cano's than ever see Pillar start another game. I'm only half kidding.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I think AA is banking on Melky getting signed by someone else. They don't have the salary to pay Melky $15 million. If he does accept, he'll likely have to juggle things by trading away some salary (likely Happ).

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I was thinking this when I posted it too And he's not standing there all pissed off like it's someone else's fault.

Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 do the Jays still pay Romero next year??
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 do the Jays still pay Romero next year?? Yep, $7.5.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 do the Jays still pay Romero next year?? Yes, last year of that deal, if I'm not mistaken.
Vincent Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Gross I'd rather have Ricky Romero missing the broad side of a barn in Buffalo for $7.5 million then Jose Reyes botching balls in the infield in Toronto for $22 million.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I don't mind them paying for the devil they know. Jays are s***** in developing players so they better be prepared to pay for talent.
