I think AA is banking on Melky getting signed by someone else. They don't have the salary to pay Melky $15 million.

If he does accept, he'll likely have to juggle things by trading away some salary (likely Happ).

If they resign Melky, I see Lind being let go! Melky can slide into a full time DH role! Ending needing a Platoon partner for Lind too!

I don't mind them paying for the devil they know.

Jays are s***** in developing players so they better be prepared to pay for talent.

Sadly they're not a big money player.

I'd rather have Ricky Romero missing the broad side of a barn in Buffalo for $7.5 million then Jose Reyes botching balls in the infield in Toronto for $22 million.

Both are obscene

He's not going to accept the qualifying offer. He will want more than a three year deal (two years plus a team option would be a better fit).

The outfield needs an overhaul. Melky's range is getting worse every year. Let him walk. If they are going to throw money at a player, let it be someone who can field and not get hurt/busted for PEDs over the last three years.

Suggestions not named Kevin Pillar plz!

Something like 2/32 + a vesting option for a third year would be good IMO.

He gets more AAV than he'd likely get on the open market and it's only two years so nothing bad can really come from it.

I know

You have to be one or the other or you're doomed to perpetual mediocrity. :(

It's too bad Morse is so bad defensively

Career 122 wRC+ but his defense and baserunning kills all his offensive win value.

There are always trades that can be made.

I do like the idea of the Jays getting Tomas, but I know they'd never spend the type of money rumored it will take to lock him up.

A 23 year old really stands outs in a sea of mostly 34+ FAs.

So does his $90 MM rumored contract he's potentially seeking.

Those contracts are (IIRC) usually in the 7 year range... Not totally against $12M AAV if he can play to a BetterThanPillar level...

True. It's still a lot to pony up for a player that is not that much of a known quantity. I guess if AA and Rogers felt like rolling the dice, they'd make a top end offer. I don't know if I'd trust the Jays management to make the right offer though. I mean they were suppose to have the next Jeter from Cuba and wound up with Hech.
