KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Which puts him in 4th by the way. Nice to see him doing good. Yeah whatever his limitations may have been skill-wise, I don't think anyone found him to be anything other than a very charismatic player. Nice to see him be in a situation where he can succeed.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Anyone else see what Eric Thames is doing this year? 1.055 OPS... http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view7/2894477/eric-thames-awesomeness-o.gif

BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Hmmmm.. I hope this doesn't mean they're not too serious in extending Melky. Sign Melky and start Pompey in CF. Pompey Reyes Melky Bautista EE Good God.. I know, right? Gose could be a serviceable 4th OF in this case. Or Pillar if, when recalled in Sept, hits even close like he has in AAA.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Anyone else see what Eric Thames is doing this year? 1.055 OPS... If his fielding has been close to average I don't see why a MLB club wouldn't take a flyer on him for next year. Could be a cheap way to get some offense. He's sort of an A's type of reclamation project. Hmmm, with Cespedas gone....

He really shouldn't turn down guaranteed money at this point plus Thames seems like the kind of guy who values the experience of living in Korea.

Good point. But how much service time would he need to accrue in the majors to get full pension? I know IIRC in the NFL it's three seasons for a lifetime of pension. Thames must be close to getting the required service MLB time in... Just a thought. But if I'm a team on the cheap I totally take a chance on him.

The fact that there are three players topping his gaudy numbers suggests that not too much should be read into them.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I see it as a rush if Pompey is our Opening Day LF in 2015. Until then, a 2 week promotion to Buffalo and maybe a September call-up isn't hurting anything. I agree that he shouldn't get the starting gig that soon. How would you feel if he is in the big league club as a 4th OF to start the year?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Its a shame how we just let Shannon Stewart float away into nothing. He was a really good player hit . 300 for his career and was good for 100 runs scored when he was healthy. He should be honoured in some way. He should. Had a 20/20 year with us. Career .360 obp. The year he left us at the trade deadline he actually finished 4th in MVP voting. He's up there in the top 10 of a lot of stats. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TOR/leaders_bat.shtml

But I do think we'll see him back again in the MLB. Even last year he was pretty good in AAA.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 my favorite memory of Black Eric Hinske: http://m.mlb.com/video/?content_id=16463511&c_id=mlb Also this: http://m.mlb.com/video/?content_id=16556153&c_id=mlb it was a good game with 3 homers in the 8th when Lee suddenly imploded

One knock on him has been his health, much like Shane Opitz, can't seem to stay healthy for any single season so far in his minor league career. Over 5 MiLB seasons he's only accumulated 1200 AB, and only 112 at AA. Predicting an opening day mlb roster assignment is grossly optimistic.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Link to all kinds of Pompey pr0n for prospect prognostication purposes. http://www.milb.com/search/media.jsp?player_id=592647
