BTS Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 No I'm saying this because I want them to be the Dodgers, much like you do. Sure, in a world where payroll can go to $190 million Robertson would be awesome. Is that the discussion we're having? I think the assumption of a $140 ceiling is a lot more interesting/realistic, and Robertson really doesn't make any sense in that situation.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Mayberry is a replacement-level hack who probably isn't even average offensively. Lind is comfortably above average as a hitter. You lose 1-2 wins in that exchange. I was being sarcastic. There is no replacement of Lind's numbers The situation is a sad one. Nothing short of a miracle is required this off season
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 I was being sarcastic. There is no replacement of Lind's numbers The situation is a sad one. Nothing short of a miracle is required this off season Ah. I think there is some merit to the idea of rotating guys through the DH spot and trading Lind. BUT, you still have to replace the 1-2 wins that Lind provides. If you're trading Lind for, say, Tony Watson and then using the $6 million savings on Chase Headley, the team is a lot better.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 If you're going with a pre arb reliever you could probably do just as good in house. Sanchez,Norris,Graveman,Nolin,Stilson,Tepera,Rasmussen,Jenkins,Romero,Delabar,Infante,McFarland,Sikula. Unlike most I wouldn't have any problem with them using those first four as relievers next year. There really isn't anything left for them in the minors nor are they stretched enough for 200 big league innings so it's actually quite logical. I'd rather go that route than devote a significant portion of the team's resources to a free agent reliever. A lot of those guys are going to be replacement-level though. I think there is value in getting a guy you can reasonably expect to give you a win or better.

Well if they resign Melky that is the bull pen your likely to get unless he deals someone . There will be no money left unless Rogers is going to the 150/160 range
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 True enough, but giving up a 2-3 win DH to "maybe" get an extra win out of the bullpen seems counter productive to me. Not that a platoon DH on a one year contract would get you a 1 win reliever with 3+ years of control anyway. Lind isn't that good though. In the last 5 seasons he's been worth 2.4 wins total.

Still, he seems more tradable than knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.

Rather move dickey and his platoon partner first! I Hate Dickey fan club line starts here! Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Then move friggin Reyes and eat money on that trade if you need too! I still think a trade along the lines of Reyes and izturis plus 8-10 mill to San Fran For Scutaro and one of Crick or Blackburn might work!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Then just sign Martin and Navarro becomes a backup and bench bat as well!

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/10/al-east-notes-rays-lind-robertson-ichiro.html Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds to the recent Adam Lind trade speculation by writing that those looking to guess the first significant trade of the offseason would be wise to bet on the Blue Jays moving Lind. There are “strong indicators” that the Jays would like to reallocate the funds that are dedicated to Lind, so the team could very well exercise his $7.5MM club option and deal him. Sherman lists the Mariners and Athletics as potential fits, noting how well his platoon role fits the A’s model. Meanwhile, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet tweets that he doesn’t see the Mariners as a fit for Lind given the team’s bulk of left-handed bats. While I agree that it’s an imperfect fit, Lind strikes me as a reasonable fit there if the club can find a right-handed bat to pair with him at DH. -MLBTR We all know it will be for a reliever. Which team and which reliever are the questions.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 I'm not sure on the validity of this report. The Jays won't move Lind unless there is another plan in place for DH. I disagree, I think they didn't like when Lind called out there team doctors. This teams front office seems to hold grudges against players if they say something that makes them look bad, not realizing they make themselves look bad every day with there constant waiver wireing and demotions of there own players for scrubs like brad mills.

Perhaps they want to allocate those funds to make Melky an offer. Really who knows though, most speculation turns out to be nothing anyways.
