KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I read 99% of the posts here and everything scares you. Not to offend you but you say the words scares me when it comes to every prospect or proposition It's true that am always going to advocate erring on the side of caution with prospects but the economics of the game pretty much dictate that you shouldn't waste MLB service time on a developing player. I'm not a fan of burning option years and jockeying legit prospects on and off the MBL roster. Instead of calling me chicken little, you might want to actually consider the substance of the argument. As far as Pompey is considered, no one could make the argument that the Jays weren't extremely aggressive with him this season. This is a guy who was barely discussed as a prospect in the off season and then he went through all the levels in one season, something usually reserved to elite and/or college talent. No one saw this coming. I mean good on him for having a great season and maintaining roughly the same production throughout. The org could certainly use an influxion of positional talent. Having him so close to Gose on the depth chart certainly makes the CF situation look a lot better than it would otherwise but that doesn't mean some additional depth wouldn't help as well.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Dave Cameron at Fangraphs think's Headley is going to get a 1/10 deal which I would do in a heartbeat. He's is pretty much a lock to be a 3war player coming off his back issues this year. I think he gets a ton more then that.

The more switch hitters you have in your starting lineup, the easier it becomes to manage your bench. Valencia could start the season in a DH platoon and then move to the infield when the inevitable injuries happen (unless he's one of the injured). Sandwiching Reyes between two superior defenders in Lawrie and Headley should also work pretty well defensively.

I can't stand that its all about risk/reward. Yeah your risking a little but the reward is so great. As for money you can still overpay him at 12 or 13 million and make it work.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Other clubs understand pitch framing They understand that 4-5 balls to strikes in a game usually is the difference between losing and winning. it is?? Where do you get this information?
Jim_Ackers_balls Verified Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Trade Bautista while he is enjoying his first healthy year; he has likely peaked in terms of value. His range is slipping too. Overhaul the outfield. It needs defense and youth. Get rid of Brett Lawrie. He can't stay healthy and has no plate discipline. Trade Reyes or at the very least move him off of SS. Pitching needs bullpen help. Fire the coaching staff. Fire the GM. Fire the president. Rogers sell the team.

If he has a good season you can pin a QO on him. I doubt the Yankees don't offer him more then that though unless there planning on just rolling with Prado.

You could even argue that he loses the bulk of his value once you move him somewhere else.

Dumb or troll, that's not for me to decide, but my vote would be for "both"

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I actually agree with trading Bautista I feel like this is his peak value
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 So Bob Elliott on PTS said the trade to the Padres was Headley for Francisco, Nolin and Pillar but the Blue Jays wanted SD to pick up salary.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I would take that and not look back. We must be at our max budget? I might take it if Headley was under contract for next year too, but for a 2 month rental of a player who I believe wasn't healthy, that seems steep.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I would take that and not look back. We must be at our max budget? I think that looks a lot better now than at the time. Francisco went from being a decent platoon 3B to horseshit and Pillar has looked terrible at the plate making it seem like he will never hit MLB pitching. That said, the Blue Jays can make it right by signing Headley this offseason.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 So Bob Elliott on PTS said the trade to the Padres was Headley for Francisco, Nolin and Pillar but the Blue Jays wanted SD to pick up salary.[/quote Yet they settled for next to nothing from the Yankees.......Go figure. Yankees picked up salary. Management here lied to the fans. They said they had payroll flexibility when really they didn't.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Yankees picked up salary. Management here lied to the fans. They said they had payroll flexibility when really they didn't. This is my opinion but I think they had payroll flexibility on the actual Day of the trade deadline but until then they had zero money. Its really a shame too because if money was available 2 weeks prior this team could have been a lot better.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 That's every bit a fabrication as the Elliot trade proposal. I'm not even sure what would be worse, management having lied about payroll space, or management having payroll space and still being too ineffective to acquire someone with more than a $3 million salary over the last 18 months.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Great job quoting guys.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Or management spending 3 million on someone that's no better than whom they currently employ. Headley was having a pretty s***** year pre trade. His defense was off the charts and his offense was not-awful. With an injured back.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 His defense was off the charts and his offense was not-awful. With an injured back. Also played in an extreme pitcher's park and division Colorado not included.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Also played in an extreme pitcher's park and division Colorado not included. and Chase Field
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 I doubt it was for a lack of effort. I'm pretty sure if Alex could have landed a full time 2B he would have. Not lack of effort. Lack of resources. You can't claim that there is money there, and then go almost two years without making any additions. Well, you can, but you're either awful at your job or lying about money being there.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 A 651 OPS is pretty awful. 95wRC+ with his defence is a very good player. Hes worth 15-20 million per season
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 A 651 OPS is pretty awful. PETCO? lol
