Fan backlash if Rogers cheaps out and the Jays fall out of the Wildcard race?

Masai is the man! I wish he was the Jays GM too.

Ironically though he's been of the most active GM's over the past 2-3yrs, he probably would've got that Price deal done today..

Masai with a minor league system to work with and no Salary Cap would be unfair to the league

pretty much nothing good to say. feels like a back up trolling account.

Just looking at the contents of the posts pretty much paints the picture - has an axe to grind, has a chip on his shoulder, most probably has either been banned before or is using an alternate account too vent/troll, does not come across as a BlueJay fan, and is definitely trying to incite some sort of negative feedback. Just my opinion. ;)

Only a f***tard would have gone out and overpaid for Price. The Jays didn't have the pieces. It doesn't make any sense to pursue Price if you have to make the 25 weaker to do so. We already know the Rays don't like trading within the division, and that they clearly wanted big leaguers. To take that into account and assume you're giving them a return that is somewhat similar to Franklin and Smyly, the Jays would have probably had to cough up something like Lawrie and Stroman, and that kind of trade doesn't make any sense for the Jays right now.

Did you just compare lawrie and Stroman to Franklin and Smyly....That's hilarious. I'm fine with the Jays not making any trades. I wouldn't have mind a trade, but we still have the best offense in the league and we're not dropping out of the wild card race at all the rest of the season.

Seriously. Rogers is far from perfect, but $135 f***ing million should be enough to build a winner. It's AA's fault that he didn't spend the money wisely when he had the chance, period.

To be fair it wouldn't have been hey AA we'll increase the budget to $135M for you from sub 100... more like Hey Rogers we have a trade opportunity but it will go well over your spending limits but could be the difference maker of a winning team or not. Ok AA we'll take the chance but that's the max we'll be able to go without seeing the rewards.

play out season win 74 games. Rogers don't want to spend another penny (why would they).

Call it AA's 'fault' or whatever you want, but the budget was only increased because that trade was there for the taking.

Put Smyly in Tropicana ballpark and watch what happens.

You do realize that park effects apply to every player and don't actually affect value, right? Market value, sure, but if you're properly valuating a player, you need to be adjusting for park.

I not going to say that I'm not disappointed . I expected some help for the BP at least. I did not expect a big move. I am disappointed that the money wasn't available . Rogers talked the talk ,with Pelly basically stating AA had money when it is pretty obvious he didn't.

Still the one huge playoff hole this team has is a #1 starter and I agree with AA , I wasn't willing to pay the price.

I really liked the Reimold move and Vallencia will help,so with all the DL guys coming back I think we play some exciting games in September and the farm is intact. Without a number 1 this team wasn't going far in the playoffs anyway without a lot of luck I had expectations this year of an 85 win season and with health and Luck some meaningful games in Sept and it looks like I'm getting that.

What you said at the end of the first paragraph in bold is what's bothered me the most about Management/Ownership this year. I just wish they would knock off the cloak & dagger BS and be a little more transparent, but hopefully they won't drop the ball again with the waiver deadline.

Yeah I mean ultimately it would be great if we get into the playoffs and make a little noise without having to weaken our farm or Rogers shelling out any deniero, that would be a phenomenal scenario considering this approach easily could've backfired in their face leading to a disastrous offseason. If that happens though and they profit with a playoff run I hope they'll increase the payroll next year so we can take a legitimate shot in 2015....and of course knock off all the double talk PR spin, etc.

The Rayspists only got one major leaguer, and a mid rote/back-end starter at that. Franklin is in AAA. And they have no room for him right now.

Lawrie/Stroman >>> Smyly/Franklin and I'm not being a homer

It is possible Tampa would have wanted an AL East "surcharge" for dealing within the division. In fact Davidi suggested in a recent column that this was almost certainly the case.

Regardless, almost every single baseball columnist and sports talk show host thinks Tampa made a bad trade. The majority opinion seems to be that if the couldn't get a better package, they should have hung on for a playoff shot and traded him in the off season for an equivalent package then. We'll see in 2015 if they're right or not.

I demand Cole Hammels or I will cancel my cell phone and cable service and switch to Bell. Hes a California dream boat. You have to factor is how good looking he is and the amount of females who will attend to stare at him. Females are already wet.

Dat chin!!

I think Adames is probably what turns this from a fair deal but expected more to a good deal for Tampa. From what I've read on this board it seems like the Rays really liked him so we'll see what happens.

Yeah good point. People keep not even mentioning him. Tampa really wanted him. Curious to see how he pans out.

We are 10th in the league in payroll ....how is that cheaping out ?

We need a couple good young players who play for cheap every year to make up for the bloated contracts that run up the payroll so trading these young guys away is stupid because there value on the field and in the budget

The issue is we have some bad contracts ...Romero who is in the minors that still has another full season on it and Morrow who fortunately is in his final yr and its almost a guarantee that the team option will not be picked up .

Remove those and you have 13 million dollars of wasted salary , and the exact reason why investing on long term deals with pitchers is so sketchy

Yeah, doesn't work there, either.

LOL. Was hoping someone would go there and prove there are limits to the protection it provides. Hahahah. I was willing to take one for the team bout glad I didn't have to. #NotGay
