JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Rasmus for Tommy Milone and Deck McGuire Who am I kidding that wouldn't be enough of an AA overpay
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 It'll be 2/3 years now that they'll have been a ~70 win team. Almost their entire rotation will be gone, Uehara will likely walk. It's going to be tough to rebuild this thing. have to agree. doesn't matter how much cash you plan on throwing at it if there aren't players available.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 It might include Lester. Which is another overlooked part of this deal ... the Sox dealt him to a team highly unlikely to be wooing him into signing longer-term, while they have his services. If it was the Dodgers or a similar club, that time spent with them, the rest of this season, might sway him to re-sign this offseason ... but with the A's? No chance they can afford him, so the Sox will be on "equal" ground in re-signing him with the rest of the deep pocketed crowd. Interesting theory. Do remember though that this is a team that lowballed the s*** out of him very recently with an extension offer. How much do they actually value him? No guarantee at all that he's back. Someone will offer him 6+ years.
Coojma Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Lester Lackey Some close to league avg guy x3 And if not Lester, someone close to his calibre via FA or trade. I don't see Cherrington sitting on his hands in the offseason. The lineup is above league average too. Papi will lose some skill via age but we would expect Betts, Bradley and Boegarts will all progress naturally. They won't be a juggernaut but they'll be a 85ish true talent win team. That's good enough to compete if you get a bit of luck on your side. Perhaps the Red Sox will call-up some of ther SP prospects? Ranaudo is 24 already and Owens has been killing AA.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 My mistake - Gomes could platoon with another bat against LHP. Perhaps that's enough for Beane? A mix and match outfield of Gomes, Reddick, Crisp, Vogt, Moss and Gentry is probably better than what most teams have.
snowmagician Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I'm confused. Can we have a separate thread for Lester deal
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 A mix and match outfield of Gomes, Reddick, Crisp, Vogt, Moss and Gentry is probably better than what most teams have. A's rotation is made to win series. if they stay healthy they will be hard to beat in a 5 or 7 game series with games every other day.
Coojma Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 A mix and match outfield of Gomes, Reddick, Crisp, Vogt, Moss and Gentry is probably better than what most teams have. Ah right, forgot about Gentry. That makes Cespedes alot more expendable.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Guys, can you please stop talking about Lester and Cespedes. I am trying to discuss the Darwin Barney trade. I would also like to discuss this.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Anyways, pretty amazing that a team can go from 69 wins -> 97 wins -> ~70 wins in just three years.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I'm confused. Can we have a separate thread for Lester deal Can we have a meta-thread where we just talk about the thread?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I can't see the Red Sox just rolling over in the next couple of years but like you both mentioned, if the players don't want to be a part of that meltdown, all the money on earth won't help. They crashed and burned this year, selling off assets, looking weak the next few years. Sucks to be them but at least it's not the Jays for once this is two blow ups in 3 years. starting to get into Marlins territory. the thing is that they came back and won after the last blow up?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Can we have a meta-thread where we just talk about the thread? the thread wouldn't be such a s*** storm if people would stop whining and talk trades and baseball instead. just sayin...
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Seems like Jonathan Martinez is going to be the PTBNL. Bad SO rate. But he has a never low walk rate.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I'm confused. Can we have a separate thread for Lester deal I think we're allowed. You better go make one.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I'm confused. Can we have a separate thread for Lester deal I'm sure when literally any other mod will come online, we'll probably have a thread. It's ridiculous that it's being policed so hard with the kind of garbage threads that are allowed to get posted so regularly, especially with everyone asking for it, but what can you do. One of the biggest trades of the deadline deserves to be relegated to a generic 30 page thread that none of the forum casuals will be f***ed to browse through. Of course it's great for us to push forum traffic over to other sites though, where literally everybody else will have a discussion page created to specifically talk about each big trade. We clearly don't need new members signing up.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 TBH I don't give a crap about having one thread or all. We're doing just fine here.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I think we're allowed. You better go make one. keep it up and you're going to get a timeout. Nox, you're getting there too.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Only on a Blue Jays forum can a trade deadline thread end with a picture of a crying baby.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but one thread for the whole deadline is a retarded idea.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Millone for Santos+ in 3....2....1 AA collecting the A's s***.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I, for one, am shocked, that all the boards you've been a part of policing and generating interest in, have burned to the ground. Shocked, I tells ya. lol if they'd talk about trades and what's happening today instead of filling the thread with their whining it would be fine.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but one thread for the whole deadline is a retarded idea. I concur. But watchout, don't voice your opinion on the matter or you'll be banned. But anyway, The Redsox is going to have a really bad rotation next year if they don't do anything with it. Do they have anyone coming up other then Owens, and it seems like he still has control problems?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but one thread for the whole deadline is a retarded idea. We just wanted all the rumours and minor deals in here Mega trades and Jays trades deserve their own threads IYAM.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Millone for Santos+ in 3....2....1 AA collecting the A's s***. THe Jays would probably throw in Norris and more
xposbrad Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Remember when some 'posters' here wanted Hammel. Check out his stats with Oakland since the trade.
