Little off topic, is right to shutdown Stroman at some point this season? Will the Jays still shut him down if they find themselves in a dog fight for the division title end of August? Do you think their plan would be to replace him with Sanchez at some point if they did this?

We're pretty much going to be acquiring Lawrie, Edwin and Lind. That's a pretty huge haul.

 

Still would like another good pitcher. Who do we roll out in a wildcard game, Dickey?! I guess MB wouldn't be a bad choice.

At this point it's really early, but whoever is pitching the hottest in September.

 

And it doesn't even have to be one pticher. If Stroman gets the start and is down 3 runs in 2 innings, you can bring in Dickey/MB.

Not saying it will happen just a strange feeling that I have today..... However I did over indulge last night at beer league.

 

I could see two contenders swapping impending free agents (if the needs lined up) but one contender selling off years of control on a guy for two months of a guy seems less likely, especially when the team acquiring the two month rental is lower in the standings.

 

I could also see a three way deal where Rasmus nets prospects and payroll flexibility and the Jays use that payroll flexibility + prospects to obtain a rental of their own but I think it's way more likely that Rasmus just plays out the season as a Jay.

if they can get Ed Lind and lawrie all back and playing well the team could go on a special run, or fall apart or just be mediocre.... hard to say, but I think not making a move that loses us top prospects is the right thing for the team going forward.

Unless he keeps improving from his recent struggles the thought is he may be tiring, so a DL stint, minor league time, or possible short term shutdown are options

I think you want to hold on to Rasmus for the rest of the season. He is still going to put up some good offensive numbers for the rest of the season and I can't see a scenario where you will get good value back in a trade. As for a Stroman innings limit I can't see that happeneing either. The guy has some of the smoothest mechanics and unless he is saying he is tiring he is contributing in a playoff race.

 

If they were concerned about innings I doubt Stroman does back out for the 7th last night after already being over 100 pitches.

I still like Rasmus' potential in power and doubles but if the right deal comes along I'd send him out. It's almost certain, at least to me, that he'll leave for FA next year. Someone might give him more money and years than the Jays will. He's got a great swing but he doesn't seem to put it all together. Maybe the Jays can give him a moderate increase on a one-year deal so they can see if he can put it together and it gives him a year to work on his numbers before hitting the FA market.

I wouldn't mind if AA went Ninja and got de la Rosa from Colorado while everyone else is fixated on Lester. Would be a very underrated acquisition that you could argue would have a similar impact as Lester. He also would be much more likely to sign an extension here.

 

You could argue it would have a similar impact, but you would be wrong. Lester is in a league above him if not two. Proven numbers both in the AL east and unbelievable playoff numbers. For a team "going for it" Lester is the much better option. Not saying that from a cost/value perspective De La Rosa may not be a solid option, but in terms of impact this year, whoever gets Lester is going to get a nice boost.

I like the slugging that Colby provides but he's just not nearly consistent enough to be on this team anymore IMO. If we can get anything for him, and use that money elsewhere, I'd be pretty happy.

Does anyone know why he changed his swing from last year again? Was it KS telling him or his dad or himself? The swing/stance he had last year was working well for him. This year it seems his upper body is too far forward and the bat close to the plate as well. It just looks weird. I am guessing he is trying for a faster swing?

 

Just wondering if anyone knew the reason why or might have an idea.

Rosenthal stating that there's a "very good chance" that both Lackey and Lester are dealt.

 

Now that changes a lot, in my opinion, as to the Sox short-term competitiveness. My opinion was that, even if Lester was dealt, they could always re-sign him in the offseason, or otherwise acquire a like-kind top flight guy, and paired with Lackey (a nice #2) and the younger guys, still produce a rotation that could compete ... and with Lackey's relative cost (he won't play for 500K, but could be reworked to a manageable extension), you may even bring in another mid-rote guy.

 

But if you deal Lackey and Lester, you have the mercurial Buchholz and a bunch of promising, but unproven guys, and then you have to get 2-3 fairly expensive guys ... and from where? Too much uncertainty, there.

 

The value of Lackey going out there and reliably pounding the zone and giving quality innings ... it goes beyond "WAR" or SIERA in the way the staff is handled. Unless they worked some miracle deals/signings, I think they'd be another year out, if not more (it would depend on the progression of the youngsters).

 

Now, I don't put much trust in any of these reports, but if true ... that's another opportunity for the Jays, short term.

 

I have a hard time believing Lester comes back next season. Hes going to get a ton of money and I don't think the Red Sox are the ones that give it to them. If he doesn't come back then you should deal Lackey to maximize his value.

 

IMO the Red Sox don't compete next year but watch out starting 2016. Another growing year for the prospects next year and they should be able to produce in 2016.

The funny part is he had success before his injury with his hands closer to his body...not sure why he changed
