HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 If only Delaballs pitched like he pitched last year... Though he had a pretty good outing last time out, striking out 4/6 batters faced. But in his previous appearance to that he still walked 2 guys
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 With the guys we got coming back from injuries, and our best pitcher Stroman going to run out of innings soon, and hutch running into a bit of a wall, I think I agree in acquiring a starting pitcher.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 A 6th starter might not be a bad idea
xposbrad Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 It doesn't matter on who they focus, they won't make the post season. The Yanks already caught up, and the Rays are not far behind. They will send their only top prospects for a 1-2 year rental, won't make the playoffs, and then be in a worse spot after just so AA can try to save face and possibly not get fired.

Regardless of your perception of the team (and mine and many here) AA has to give the perception of going for it. We know what a hot streak can do for the standings this year. All year I've said that the best move AA could make is just hope and pray to the Souvlaki gods, but now making a deal, any deal, regardless of the actual value of the deal and having it coincide with a small winning streak, will have the casual fans pumped about baseball once again. If the winning streak doesn't come...oh well "we all saw what the team could do when healthy back in May...this is a playoff team".
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 So I guess this means Kawasaki/Tolleson until the end of the season if everyone's healthy and something worse if there are more injuries (the risk you run when you already have a role players in the starting lineup). I don't love that but if there are better opportunities to improve the team on the pitching side, those certainly shouldn't be overlooked. My worry is that this is a replay of the off-season (focus on pitching, end up with nothing).
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 hutch running into a bit of a wall That's a bit of an understatement.

One of the best bullpens last year, brought back essentially the same group and it's one of the worst in the league this year.
McD Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 AA has to man up and either make a move to improve the team or start selling and rebuild for 15/16. This standing pat ******** is only hampering the teams chances for next year and beyond.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 AA won't get anyone. And frankly, standing pat is better than him trying to make another win-now trade.

Standing pat means your damaging the value of your trade assets. They'll lose time on their contracts and you've more chance of getting a team to put together the beat deal if they're desperate and on the cusp of success. A win now trade doesn't have to be franchise-crippling (although im not confident AA is aware of this).Headley and McCarthy were just picked up with little impact on the Yankees farm system.

All true, but I don't trust AA not to screw this team over even worse. I'd rather wait for him to be fired and replaced with someone competent before major roster moves are made.

Unless the new office chairs he requires become too costly.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Gibbers just said that the innings limit for Sanchez is 130 That rules out Sanchez going the Stroman route in starting in the bullpen and then going back to the rotation. Looks like finding a SP is still a possibility
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I've resigned myself to the fact that there wont be any major moves, due to payroll constraints. I believe now that Rogers will not give the Jays additional funds, so anything will have to be money in=money out. I can see someone claiming Santos, and the Jays using that to get a guy like Bastardo or similar setup type guy. They'll spin it like EE, Lind, Lawrie, Morrow coming back is better than anything they could acquire on the trade market.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 They'll spin it like EE, Lind, Lawrie, Morrow coming back is better than anything they could acquire on the trade market. Yup. And then when more injuries hit, AA will say "oh there's nothing we could have done". We miss the playoffs by 2 or 3 games.

I think the rest is just AA literally calling about anyone and everyone. Some teams probably have pitchers he likes, and some have bats.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Should trade Rasmus better than lose him for nothing.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Should trade Rasmus better than lose him for nothing. He isn't worth anything. I find it hard for a team to pick him up and even eat his salary. What value does a player who isn't hitting well who is a free agent at the end of the year have?

What value does a player who isn't hitting well who is a free agent at the end of the year have? He's also having a poor defensive season too. Not an attractive rental.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 He has the more value to the Jay's than he's worth in trade. Pray he heats up over the last 60 games. Pray. Pray to the tractor god

Looks like finding a SP is still a possibility 5 years on the minors and he's still limited to 130 innings.... Tells you something of his health. 130 innings should be surpassed by a starter in about year 3.
