The other major problem is that no one on the free agent market wanted to come here. Even now - how many times do you read someone's no trade list of teams - Toronto is always listed as one of the teams. The ONLY way a free agent comes to Toronto is A) they're from Canada B) Toronto overpays them in BOTH years and dollars - (see Izturas) and C) if Toronto looks like they are spending money and looks like a contender.

Players were not coming to Toronto as free agents with 15-20 years of losing and being in a division with spend-aholics like Boston and NY. Sorry but you have to put your place in the player's shoes and if I am a player and I want to win and if I happen to be single I am looking at New York and California (and Miami) Climate, women, weather, lower taxes better teams to win with, more fame (which results in more lucrative advertising deals for the player). If Bautista was in the States he'd be the face of Nike or something for $50,000,000 he won't get in Toronto.

So the Jays (and or AA because he's not the only one making decisions clearly) they go and try and fail to sign free agents. So they are forced to make a trade to get a "star" player. In theory, had the Jays won last year or been close then free agents would opt for C - (the Jays have a chance to win).

The Jays need to suck it up and have a ten year plan. They need to do what Epstein just did and unload to get top 50 prospects. Bautista, EE, Bautista, Dickey, Jansen, Reyes, Colby, Melky all need to be traded. The latter two before the deadline. The Jays supposedly have scouts so trade them for single A prospects that are generally lower in value as trade chips but may have high ceilings. So you might get two or three single A high quality guys rather than 1 AAA prospect. Teams are looking for bats. Jansen is also a must trade - the guy is going to cost a lot.

The Jays are in middle ground - the spend enough to win yes - but they don't have the core talent. There is no "One Player" solution that can turn the team into a contender. The Jays need by my count 4 players that would have to be inserted into the team in order to be able to win (a real Ace, a set-up man, 2B, A RH bench bat). And they don't have either the money or the trade chips to do it. And they need to come back and stay healthy.

They should trade Colby - there is no point to having him here if they're not extending him. Maybe they can get one top 50 prospect in return for him - a one for one trade like Marcum for Lawrie. Sweeten the pot and add something else if necessary.

I totally agree with you but I don't think that happened. I think the money was always there but AA saw the Marlins trade developing, Beeston pressured him and things took off from there.

Its been noted that the money was available prior to the darvish bidding.

If that's the case, why was AA given a 3 year window to compete & then the window gets closed after the first year.?

He was given a payroll of $140 mil. He already wasted it

We're paying a lot of guys for nothing... but Rogers is supposed to look past all that and keep the cash flowing freely. Why should Rogers care if they turn a profit. It's not like they're a business.

I don't think its about that. Rogers believes that a winning club is better for business. I just think they have someone assessing AA and that person is telling them that this is a bad idea

morrow is being paid on AAs insistance that he can be a major league ace despite consistent and sufficient evidence pointing to the contrary

I wonder if Rogers has lost faith in AA because we are paying Romero & Morrow 15$ million for no production.

Josh Johnson was another case of of 10 million salary for no production.

The injuries to the jays players & the amateurish handling of Lind's injury must make Rogers executives pull their hair out. Lind consults his mom for an MRI?

At some point though you end up having too high a payroll to be profitable. The Blue Jays may be at that point.

To me this is actually a very good sign. It means that they aren't blindly trusting these clowns

By the way Rogers bid over a billion dollars today for the bills who they plan on moving to Toronto in 2020

I don't think so. Even with $140 mil payroll Rogers is likely making an economic profit of 50-60 Mil based on the sponsor revenue for jays broadcast

Reasons to come to play for the Toronto Blue Jays:

- AstroTurf

- Half the team speaks Spanish

- Lovely Canadian weather

- Rob Ford

- Deep farm system

- Beautiful ballpark which doubles as a demolition derby venue and concert hall

- GM with a vision

- Brett Lawrie theatrics everyday

- Manager has high praise for team

- Close proximity to the beautiful waters of Lake Ontario

You forgot Toronto is routinely featured on ESPN

OK, but Rogers will face a backlash if the team is blown up again. Spending an extra 10$ million in 2014 to get qualified replacements for the sick bay is worth it.

Do you really think that one player is going to fix this mess?

Somehow this season's turning into a bigger disappointment than last season. I didn't even think that was possible.

It feels this way doesn't it. What a joke this team is not looking for a window. I don't even blame AA then. I mean come on, a really good shot at the playoffs and they wont take on any $$$? Well good bye playoffs. I have loved the JAYS since 1985, think I'm almost done though.

I still didn't have a problem with where the team was before the Marlins and Dickey trades, no idea why the Jays trudged down this road, or why they can't head back. But apparently everyone is against building a team patiently through the farm. So, oh well.

No idea who the Jays were selling out to. The casuals who weren't coming when we didn't have name players, would've shown up eventually.

Honestly, I disagree with all this "rebuilding" idea. If Lawrie, EE and Lind were still in the lineup, I'm pretty sure we'd still be in 1st place right now.

Plus, a rebuild would completely kill attendance for the next few years. Not cool for us Canuck baseball/Jays fans.

I'd say trade Colby but at this point I don't think he's worth much. Keep the core for next year and don't give any top prospects. #my2cents

I'd welcome a major re-tooling with open arms over the has-beens they've been fielding the past 1.5 years.

We're fielding a AAA lineup for the next 3-4 weeks.

Anticipating another Dickey book.

You know, of all the fking guys to allow a HR this really pissed me off.

An ultimate slap in the face to all the Jays fans.

I'm ok with who the fk gets fired after this bs.

This wouldn't be a typical rebuild. EE and Bautista would bring back an absolutely massive haul. Giving up a bit of cash with Reyes and Buehrle could drastically reduce next years payroll, and they'd be setup for a potential run as soon as 2016...maybe.

I don't know why I still have this overwhelming instinctual feeling that this team is winning the AL east

I can't explain it but its there.

After seeing JP's hr against us I had a bad case of diarrhea.

Guys, there's more to the season then just competing and being in contention. We also have a deep farm system to look forward to for years to come... oh wait...

Several top 20 prospects, along with always signing the top IFAs and so glad we outbid everyone on Puig/Abreu/Tanaka/Davish. Since we're playing the sarcasm game!

That instinctual feeling is you being a complete retard.

Why would you say a thing like that. Did I do anything to you. Its not my fault the jays lost tonight don't take your anger out on me

Time for this little soft cock to man up too. If they don't wanna throw Bats cheeseburgers he should walk like f***ing '04 Barry.
