Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Edwin not enough to land Zimmer on his own? WTF? Some of these guys ridiculously over value prospects. Especially pitching prospects with arm concerns.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-trade-value-50-41/ Fangraphs had him pegged as having the 46th highest trade value in the league. Do you think that's too low? Seems like it to me but the players around him seem to be ok comparisons? It seems a touch low but not criminal. That's still a very valuable asset, especially to a team higher on the $/win curve.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Too early. In another month Jays will be completely out of it and will deal some of the overpaid guys like Reyes ect then Reyes and who is the etc? maybe Santos but i wouldn't give up on him. Rasmus is pretty much just a platoon outfielder I'd get whatever i could for him.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Never going to happen, but hypothetical scenarios are fun. The fact still remains they are 2.5 out of the WC and within striking distance in a weak division year. A fire sale is an off season move for this team even though they'd probably get max value right now. AA's job is on the line and if he's throwing in the towel he's done for. It's in his best interest to go for it and try to make the playoffs to save his own ass. With that said however, if something outrageous happens and a fire sale gets triggered, everyone should be trade bait except Stroman/Hutch & Lawrie, as they are the only legit, realistic pieces to build around. That is a lot of holes to fill but this team has the right players under ideal contracts to net a huge return.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Trade away the entire roster, except for those that haven't reached arb.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Then sign as many fringe pitchers on 1 or two year deals as possible and flip them at the break.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 For KC to move Zimmer on his own. There is absolutely no incentive to move Zimmer unless you give them a clear shot at the WC. Edwin alone doesn't get them there. Umm... He does just about as much as any other hypothetical piece does. There should be a full-fledged riot outside of the Rogers C if Edwin gets traded for Kyle Zimmer straight up.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 It's not realistic to think of a specific return on any player. You get the best player being offered in each individual deal, Whomever that may be.
Hawkins Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Bautista to Rangers for Profar, Gallo plus or to Cards for Taveras, Wong and Adams. EE to Seattle for Walker, Peterson plus. Buehrle and 10 million each of the next two years for Dozier Reyes and 10 million each of the next two years to SF for Crick Jansen to Tigers for Devon Travis Dickey and 5 million each of the next two years to Pirates for Glasnow Cabrera. Rasmas and all others with expiring contracts would be available. Given that I just brought the pay roll to about 50 million I then sign every every Latin American player next year and pay the penalty.

fireballW Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 It'd be funny how frustrated you would get when you keep getting offers that really dont include any great prospects, even for a guy like Bautista. Even funnier when Stroman gets hurt next year and Norris goes for TJS. There is no easy rebuild for this team because even for guys like EE and Bautista you need a lot of luck in lining up a trade from another GM. For Bautista youd proabably get one really exciting propsect and a couple mediocre ones. If the exciting one doesnt become a star then youve proabably gone a backwards. People are saying what theyd want for guys like Happ and MB who both likely have negative trade value. Even eating salary they wont get you an exciting prospect in the upper minors unless you get really lucky.
Hawkins Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Sanchez, Norris and Pompay is the asking price for Price ( 1 year of control and $20 million dollar salary) but my offers for Bautista makes you laugh? Are you ignoring the fact that Bautista has two years left after this one at $14 million?

Gallo for Bautista is quite fair and probably still rejected.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 With that logic Norris should get us Price. Pretty sure that's exactly the opposite of what he said. He's talking top 10 for all of baseball. That's not Norris.

Nox Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 That's not Gallo either. He's borderline. Baseball America has him #4 (very aggressive), all the other publications in the 10-20 range.

The thing with Toronto teams, they aren't good at rebuilding, just take a look at the leafs. There's constant pressure to win, so there's never the ability to do the necessary moves to win. Those moves are what it would take for this team to be competitive for years and actually have a legit chance of building a solid base of young guys with lower priced contracts, but, like I said, it ain't happening unfortunately.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Too many prospect effers on this board. Right now, Gallo is only a guy with mammoth power, but trouble making contact. Sure, he could work out and be a beast ... and at a reasonable rate for years to come. But he could also go down the path of Dallas McPherson, and others. I mean, his AAA K rate puts him on pace for nearly 300 Ks over a full season. And 8 of his last 10 games have been multi-K outings (with 20 Ks in 38 ABs over that span). What's going to happen when he faces real pitching, and not just AAA lifers without the stuff to stay in the bigs, or other not-yet-developed pitching prospects? If he faces Felix Hernandez, he might come to the plate 4 times in a game, and log 5 or 6 Ks (Bugs Bunny style). Bautista offers you immediate elite offense, at a reasonable cost over 2+ years. Gallo offers you a lottery ticket, with higher possible payoff, but much more uncertainty, and performance that will likely be out into the future (TV of performance). Granted, in this particular case, maybe the Rangers are looking toward the future, so it wouldn't make sense ... but prospects, even top prospects, somehow being higher value than immediate sure thing performers (assuming reasonable contracts), is an obvious abuse of analysis. I never offered an opinion as to what Gallo's future is (I'm a strikeout snob and remain tentative in believing in him)...just what his trade value likely is. It is probably a little off as I think that Bautista has a little higher value (he was 27th on Fangraphs trade value list just published, top prospects Bryant and Buxton are 29th and 36th) but Rangers situation it wouldn't likely be much of a "plus" they offered if they were truly considering a Bautista for Gallo deal.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I would start by dumping Navarro and his s*** defense and framing to the cardinals for free. Let Kratz take the reigns and open a roster spot for a position player.
JaysFanToTheEnd Verified Member Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) Any GM who would trade Bautista for Gallo straight up would be fired and would never get a gm job again. And you'd be the laughing stock around the mlb. Edited July 20, 2014 by JaysFanToTheEnd
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Gallo is the next Mark Reynolds. 1999 Reynolds less the 25 bags stolen...I could buy that. Gallo will likely have to hit 40 bombs and/or keep up his above average BABIP to hit .260 in the bigs but it's really hard not to buy into his power right now.
