Yeah, read this on MLBTR. Great news in every way. I'm not even going to drop the "sad to hear"; f*** that. Guy's making 150 Mil and playing for the Yankees. I'll take this every day.

It's not about feeling bad for him, as you said, he's making $150m regardless so cry me a river... but in general any sport loses out when its star players are hurt... I think it stinks when a MAtt Harvey, JF, or Tanaka goes down... Jays are a .500 team optimistically so I don't get it I guess.

Hopefully he doesn't have Morrow/Santos forearms I guess

So a couple of key Jays' pitchers are allowed to have chronic injuries but the Yankees ace isn't? Yeah, I'm not on that boat. I'd love if he developed that kind of an injury. Maybe that's a bit f***ed up, but like I said, he's already making more than most players ever will. There's enough star players for me to feast my eyes on with Trout and Darvish and Strasburg and the countless others. I felt bad when Fernandez went down, I felt like s*** when Harvey went down, but I have no sympathy for the luckiest f***ing franchise in the history of sports losing their ace rookie.

I guess. I cant stand the Yanks as a franchise and hope for them to lose equal to hoping for JAys to win... I guess I just like watching Tanaka pitch.

It's not really surprising considering how much he's pitched in Japan and he's been a horse since coming over to the Yankees. It's a blow to them for sure even if it's only a short time and nothing serious. I won't wish bad on anyone but him being out, the Red Sox all but waiving the white flag, it certainly gives the Jays a little extra help if they can take advantage.

On the other hand, I know it sounds a bit harsh, but for once I'm glad it's not the Jays having a big piece being injured. The Yankees knew how many miles were on his arm coming in, and like any pitcher, there is a risk.

It will be interesting to see what it might be over the next few days. I'm curious to know if it's just inflammation or something worse.

We've had our fair share of injuries so far... Morrow should have led the rotation this year

He had 54IP last year and 124IP the year before that, you cant reasonably say that's a guy you're counting on to lead the staff

Interesting to see how many innings he's thrown up to his age 25 season. Surprised he hasn't had an injury prior, or at least a dead arm.

I remember there being all this drama about how many innings he's thrown, and then I think someone mentioned that Kershaw has thrown as many innings as he has in a similar time frame. Nobody seems to be complaining about that.

If TJ NYY place muzzle to skull and pull trigger...man, what a shocker that would be to lose this expensive stud.

They too have had a very rough go on the FL front.

Os have had Machado and Weiters out but stayed relatively healthy.

However, Baltimore will be really tested when they face elite AL West teams in the 2nd half.. for some reason, I do not see them as a contender.

That's exactly what I feel when any Yank gets hurt. I'm glad I'm not the only heartless soul. I hope we don't go to hell.

Don't discount Baltimore. They are healthy and have a great offense. Furthermore they have a competent manager

Players/scouts e.t.c. speculate Tanaka's injury was due considering his reliance on the splitter. 25% of his pitches were splitters which is quite taxing on the elbow.

Doesn't help that he now has to pitch in shorter increments compared to Japan.

Boston OTOH has none of these things

Seriously though. 'Cause if we do we'll have to spend a lot of time hanging out with ARod. :(

I doubt Baltimore stays this hot. Pearce, school and Adam Jones can only carry a team for so long. I just hope the Jays are within four games when they get Eddy, lawrie and whoever else back.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought splitters, being very much like changeups, weren't that taxing on the arm since it's basically a fastball release.

Not that pitching in itself isn't taxing enough already, but I thought that splitters/changeups don't affect the player that much more.

I think the curveball is the preferred breaking ball (although a splitter really is in the changeup class) and it's generally good to eclipse 50% fastballs.

That said, nobody really knows why pitchers get hurt and you can't apply a blanket statement to Tanaka. Every pitcher is different.

Maybe I'm the odd one...I like to see good baseball players playing, regardless of the uniform. Might be the reason I can stop cheering for a team so easily.

Tanaka apparently has a partially torn UCL. Will rehab and could be back in 6 weeks if everything goes right. Huge break for the rest of the AL East and a huge blow to the Yankees.

That sucks. As much as i hate the Yankees...can't wish a Tommy John on anyone.
