burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 That sucks. As much as i hate the Yankees...can't wish a Tommy John on anyone. My feeling as well. Sucks for baseball in general that one of the best pitchers has a UCL injury but what else is new? The injuries this year is incredible. Wonder if they would entertain the thought of a 26 man roster? Allows players to have more rest but I'm not sure it changes a whole lot.

Yanks and Tanaka should just get the TJS out of the way now so he can be their big July acquisition in 2015 instead of trying to rehab it for 6 weeks and pretty much ensure he's out for 2015.

Yankees officially out of it. That is not terrible news for the Blue Jays. I expect to get unlimited Thanks for this post.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 The reality: Unless he's in the vast minority of players for whom rehab works, Masahiro Tanaka eventually will need Tommy John surgery.

Yeah he will most likely need it eventually. That contract becomes pretty worrisome with an injury in the first year.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Yankees officially out of it. That is not terrible news for the Blue Jays. I never mentioned the Blue Jays in my post. I refuse to even look for any positives that may result from any player being injured. Blue Jays were ahead of Yankees while Tanaka was healthy.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 There has been so many injuries lately I don't think anyone wishes bad on anyone. Blue Jays know what its like to have a key player injured so I don't think anyone is wishing injury on anyone.
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 The Jays have seen enough injuries as it is. I think it all balances out.
Bourjos Verified Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Wasn't upset at all...all good. Jays need to worry about themselves, rest will take care of itself. OK but doesn't hurt that a competing team in the division just lost easily their best pitcher, does it?
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Goddamn this sucks. Tanaka out long-term is bad for the game.
Key22 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I know it helps the Jays and all but it's pretty bush league of fans to celebrate an injury - I want the Jays to win and all but if the only way we can even have a HOPE to win is for their best players to get hurt then our team isn't worth celebrating. I want a team on the field that can beat a healthy Yankees team. Granted I wish Yankee fans had the same mindset with payroll - my team spends $200million then beating a team with a $50 million payroll is kind of the same thing. Watching Mike Tyson in his prime going boxing glove to boxing glove with a five year old girl isn't much of a sport.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Goddamn this sucks. Tanaka out long-term is bad for the game. Do you remember Harvey, the naked dude of the mets? Harvey > Tanaka
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Do you remember Harvey, the naked dude of the mets? Harvey > Tanaka I wish both had stayed healthy. All of these pitching injuries suck.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Goddamn this sucks. Tanaka out long-term is bad for the game. Tanaka making 160M is also bad for the game.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Welp NYY keeping up with the Rays and Jays injury for injury
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Tanaka making 160M is also bad for the game. Poor motherf***er rich guy. Sorry for the pleonasm!!!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 Are UCL tears less common in pitchers who play their whole career in Japan? Different pitching cycles, etc...
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I smell TJS in Tanaka's near future.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Tanaka making 160M is also bad for the game. Why is that bad for the game? The Yankees and their wealth are great for the game!
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Why is that bad for the game? The Yankees and their wealth are great for the game! Also, Tanaka is one of the game's elite pitchers and worth every penny in baseball's current economic climate.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Why is that bad for the game? The Yankees and their wealth are great for the game! Did you just ask me why setting the market for Japanese free agents at the same threshold as MLB free agency is bad for the game? Or were you being sarcastic?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Did you just ask me why setting the market for Japanese free agents at the same threshold as MLB free agency is bad for the game? Or were you being sarcastic? Yes! Why shouldn't Tanaka be entitled to whatever someone will pay him? And the high-payroll teams like the Dodgers and Yankees are great for baseball. Even if you hate them, you have to respect their history and tradition. They have big brands and draw a lot of interest to the sport. Plus, their wealth keeps everything running through revenue sharing.
admin Site Manager Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Contract was ridiculous and could have easily backfired. But by the way he's pitched this year, it looks like he could be up for the Cy Young every year. Darvish, now Tanaka, whoever the next one is, he's probably going to get an even crazier contract.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Yeah cause opening the MLB to 127,000,000 Japanese has worked out poorly for the MLB.
