Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Could someone please explain the logic of this? Take a career .227 hitter and put him in the two hole. Move down melkey and Bautista to get them fewer at bats Please don't quote his recent SSS which he will not maintain
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Because AA told Gibbons to bat him second.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 because we need someone to get on base before Melky and Bautista. Reyes should be batting 9th.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I have no idea why managers think the 2-hole scrub tactic works. Like it's not just going to result in automatic outs. My only rationale is to spread out the scrubs a bit. The 6-9 blackhole that was going on for the WS and A's series was indefensible. At least this way the opposing pitchers don't get to turn on cruise control after they get the fifth hitter.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 The Two Hole The old-school book says to put a bat-control guy here. Not a great hitter, but someone who can move the lead-off hitter over for one of the next two hitters to drive in. The Books says the #2 hitter comes to bat in situations about as important as the #3 hitter, but more often. That means the #2 hitter should be better than the #3 guy, and one of the best three hitters overall. And since he bats with the bases empty more often than the hitters behind him, he should be a high-OBP player. Doesn't sound like someone who should be sacrificing, does it? -- Gibby bringing a butter knife to a gun fight.

Comx Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 No. Yes. 4th on team in OBP, next to Bautista, Edwin, Lind.

Also it is y gibbons tried to get Bautista to bat second last year

Seems all you can do is disagree and insult with no supporting facts. Dipshit. Fact: True talent .280 wOBA. Fact: that's the worst in our starting lineup. Fact: One of your top 2 hitters should hit 2nd. Fact: the relevant citation to the accepted piece of research on this matter was already posted in this thread.
Convo Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Are you actually that f***ing dumb? You seem pretty dim yourself. I guess you are right and the Major League manager is wrong. Why do you pick on a new poster, your life that bad?

It's funny that you try to argue this when Kawasaki batting 2nd just lead to a run.

Why do you pick on a new poster, your life that bad? The major league manager is most definitely wrong. Your blatantly fallacious appeal to authority does nothing to further whatever argument you think you have.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Happ still a starter, Kawasaki batting second... Gibbons tired of pretending he has a lineup worth playing and is trolling AA
Comx Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Lol, this guy's posts read like a non-stop temper tantrum, it's pretty funny s***. Not really.

Not sure you even know what you're arguing about anymore. I said he gets on-base. Which he does, and he has. You said no. I proved it by example. You resorted to posting a condescending remark. I appreciate the frustration being a Blue Jays fan right now but there's really no need for that. Thanks.

What is your baseline for having an acceptable OBP, without resorting to a borderline useless 80 PA sample size?
Comx Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 He gets on base? What is your baseline for having an acceptable OBP, without resorting to a borderline useless 80 PA sample size? You may not like it but many managers go by recent season and handedness stats to build their line-ups. Kawsaki OBP last 2 years vs. RHP: .341, .368... 250 PA.
