o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 4 walks in 142 career ABs. Guy was a 32nd round pick. He should be thankful that he has even been given a look. They won't re-call him until September for this incident. depends how Glen does and how long Jose is out

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Resign Colby, should be at a discount if poor hitting season continues. Gose is not a major league player. If Gose isn't a MLB what is Jackey Bradley Jr?

He's already done a great job of proving he belongs on an MLB roster, he just needs to figure out how to stay there.

I understand what your saying here, but in the heat of the moment s*** happens and players/coaches react. I really don't see the problem with Pillars actions, obviously other do.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 he was pinch hit for anthony f***ing Gose. Gibbons should be the one getting demoted.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 he was pinch hit for anthony f***ing Gose. Gibbons should be the one getting demoted. I'm thinking lesson learned here. On the other hand, he was right. Gibby made a mistake there. With pillar's numbers in the minors compared to gose's in the minors and with Colby back, why do we still have gose on the roster. Resign Colby, should be at a discount if poor hitting season continues. Gose is not a major league player. Do you guys know what OBP is?
immature Verified Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 113 PA, 15 BB ... lets wait a little longer before we start to believe anthony gose's OBP is sustainable. Last night he was the last batter against Kuroda. Takes 2 obvious balls , swings at sinker on the corner, whatever probably should of left it based on inconsistency of ump last night then swings at sinker 3 inches off the plate, takes a ball and then again swings at another sinker off the plate and grounds out. Discrediting sample size point, but stuff like this dose not give me faith in Gose.
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Do you guys know what OBP is? Exactly... in fact Kevin Pillar's 2014 OBP is lower than his .225 batting average (figure that one out) while Gose's OBP is currently well above league average, not to mention Gose on base late in games is ya know, kind of a good thing.

Anthony Gose minor league OBP: .335 Pillar: .366 Pillar has looked awful in the majors but I'd still go with the larger sample size then Gose' 113 PA.

Minor's means nothing compared to what they've done recently and at the major league level. Pillar has done nothing at this level and with that analogy Hendricks should be up here FT.

I'd go with larger sample minor league stats over scattered small sample major league stats any day (accounting for some performance drop in minor league stats).

As I said though, some performance drop off is expected.

Is that difference in OBP so high that it cancels out the platoon advantage? I highly doubt that.

Right... but I'm just saying just because you can hit in the minors doen't mean you're going to have success in the majors and your numbers certainly don't always go with you. Gose's minor league OBP is almost right on par (little less actually) than his small sample size major league level OBP for this year. The Blue Jays' team average OBP is .330, Gose has been playing above that level both in the minors & majors all year and I think everyone should be happy with that. Pillar's 2014 MLB OBP is .220 and .242 for his short up and down career.

Gose OBP this year doesn't appear to be sustainable and with the poor slugging I'm rather concerned about him being able to contribute at all offensively going foward. Why would anyone expect this to continue, I have no idea?

Dialing back to his last 2 years on a young player is not a great indicator. In 2012 + 2013 he had a combined 313 AB and only 22 total walks. He's had only 94 AB in 2014 and has already walked 15 times. He's seeing the ball better and getting on base more because of it.

It's barely 100 PA DUDE!! ..... not to mention the kid sacrificed any power he ever had to get OB more. Bottom line: He's playing over his head and he still sucks offensively.

Not really since as I said the last couple seasons in AAA his OBP dropped. And you're still not accounting for major league performance drop. I expect a slash line of .240 .300 .310 might be realistic... would you be happy with that (.610 OPS)?

No and we shouldn't be, if he regresses that far than that's that but if he hits .240 that's actually improving his batting average, I don't know if his OB will dip that low, maybe team average or little less.
