admin Site Manager Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Honeslty, I don't think there's a single person that could honestly say that thread was going to go anywhere positive. The first three posts pretty much said wtf is this. I think the title and the poll just made it confusing more than anything.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Too much tension in this thread considering the jays beat the yankees! no tension her bro, as a matter of fact, I'll be so relaxed that I'll be unconscious soon. lol

It was not going anywhere we needed to go after a great win.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I missed this contentious other thread - what was it? Edit: now I see it. Come on TL, you can do better than that.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Says the guy who complains about lack of moderation. Because moderation is limited to one-dimensional thread policing, right? If you guys are this anal about where threads belong, why isn't there anything done when other off-topic threads are created? In fact, in a hilariously ironic way, "New moderator o2cui2i" doesn't belong in a forum called "Toronto Blue Jays". That would either be in Off-Topic or Announcements (which, funnily enough, we don't have). I never said there was a problem with moderation when it comes to thread creation, that has nothing to do in relation to troll-spamming.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I think this board is really missing out on a "last post wins thread", thoughts?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I missed this contentious other thread - what was it? twisted writing poetry about JPA and asking for a vote. I just closed it. didn't delete. we'll certainly want to go back and laugh at/with twisted many times in the future. lol
bzapple Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 We should remove ~ 4,000 from King's post count because that's the number that have nothing but "lol" in them At least fatcow had the decency to write "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL"
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I missed this contentious other thread - what was it? An off-topic thread. Just like the last one, that got 400+ posts. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/3410-OTT-2-Seitzer-!-I-don-t-even-know-her!!
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Edit: now I see it. Come on TL, you can do better than that. Better than what? It's an OFF-TOPIC THREAD. What the hell is the problem with that?! LOL. I don't get it. Why does everyone have a problem with an OTT? The last one got 400+ posts (and coincidentally, that was pretty much the last time this forum was laid-back and wasn't so bent out of shape).
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Anyways. Lets Go Bluejays. (keeping up with the poetry)
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 It wasn't that funny You're almost at 20k, any plans on how you plan to celebrate?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 You're almost at 20k, any plans on how you plan to celebrate? he can celebrate with a ban and a clean slate. lol Jk

The first three posts pretty much said wtf is this. I think the title and the poll just made it confusing more than anything. If the problem with it is that the title or the poll made it confusing, then that makes sense. If the problem with it is that it's simply an off-topic thread, then that makes absolutely no sense. No harm can come from having a lounge thread. The last one was moderately successful and got a lot of traffic early on.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Endy Chavez bases loaded triples. M's 7-2 Red Sox

The last one was moderately successful and got a lot of traffic early on. Well he is new, but he was right. We have a whole forum for off topic stuff, so we don't really need one in the baseball forum. If we have one or not though, I don't care, it just needs to be decided upon. He was just doing his job and did it properly. After I thought about it, I said I guess it could have been moved instead of closed. But when I opened that thread I didn't know waht the f*** it was either, until I came here and went and took another look at it.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I think this board is really missing out on a "last post wins thread", thoughts? The last forum I was on did a similar thing like this with OTTs as well. Every OTT was closed after 1000 posts, and whoever got the #1000 post got to create and name the next OTT. It calls for a lot of casual chatter and ragging and becomes a fun thing to do when there's nothing else to talk about on the forum. The Wrestling Forum on PSD ended up needing a new thread every three days and got more than 100K posts out of it. If it picks up, all it does is ease the tension and raise site traffic. I don't know why a mod of all people would have a problem with that. Then that's on me for doing a poor job of explaining what "OTT" means. I assumed people would remember based off the last one, since everyone got along with it and it lasted a while. But since that thread died a long time ago, I can see where the confusion came from. Still, that doesn't change that I think that the main forum should have an OTT. Whenever I have something off topic to talk about, I end up posting it in the Around Baseball thread, and I think a lot of others do the same, which is why those threads become massive. There doesn't need to be a 9K post "Around Baseball" thread. I don't care who creates it, maybe if a mod or someone created it, it would get more traffic.
admin Site Manager Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Yeah, I don't really care if there is one, it's just all mods have to be on the same page, because as far as they (we) know, if there is an off topic thread we try to move it to the other forum. One says yeah and the others don't know, and few hours later one comes on and moves it.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I do agree that the 'around baseball' thread is a dumping ground for everything non jays related, although that is it's purpose. Hard to have a solid discussion in that one.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 To be honest TL, I had no idea what anything in that thread was about lol. It gave me a headache.

Hard to have a solid discussion in that one. Around Baseball is where stuff like this should go: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/3401-Martin-prado http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/3399-Padres-have-fired-GM-Josh-Byrnes-Minaya-interim-GM-) http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/3388-Away-fans-at-Baseball But it doesn't, and the most common reason is that nobody wants to sift through a 500 page thread to find things that matter. And that's because it's poorly used as a massive off-topic thread, which is the main reason I wanted to create one on its own. But like I said, if people are too tight and srs bsns to have a lounge thread, then whatever, forget it. People don't need to bother with my "few paragraph posts", since they've clearly got better things to do,
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 To be honest TL, I had no idea what anything in that thread was about lol. It gave me a headache. LOL, I think we established that I did a atrocious job of explaining the thread's purpose. It's a habit, I just assume people know what OTT means. I mean, it's weird that they don't, since OTTs are the second most popular threads outside of GDTs on any forum, but I know that isn't the case here, so I should have done a better job in explaining it. And I wasn't trying to insult ECJF with that picture, it was a joke. f*** it guys Delete the off topic forum Merge everything together You can have an Off-Topic forum for the music thread, games thread etc, while still having an OTT in the main forum. I also think there should be a separate forum for Fantasy sports, I think Around Baseball should get it's own forum as well, and I think there should be an Announcement forum. It's weird that instead of expanding, we're compressing and merging everything together.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I see us sweeping this series Why are all of your display pictures of creepy old men?

Too many threads is not an issue at this point. All of today's threads are still on the first page.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Without fantasy threads, the off topic forum would be a graveyard. And that was exactly why I wanted to create an OTT in this forum, lol. Anything that isn't a fantasy thread will die there.

I prefer multiple subforums and organization but majority are against, not a big deal though.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Without fantasy threads, the off topic forum would be a graveyard. I cant remember the last time(before moving the thread in question) that I was in there. I pretty much read everything that comes into the baseball forum, but mostly post in GDT. I watch games in the middle of the night and enjoy talking ball during the games.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I kind of like how Orioles Hangout has their forums separated for the baseball related stuff.
