eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 nah...I believe MLB actually should make a lot of this stuff mandatory. I just think that if you asked Lawrie to wear it and he struck out next AB...you'd never see it again anyway. He's been plunked on the hands way more than the average hitter. This is not a fluke. There is obviously something about his stance that is causing this. He's a high risk guy with a long history of hand problems. Unacceptable.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Nah, probably 3 weeks. This is the Blue Jays, remember?

Maybe with Lawrie it's a bit to much fearlessness. He'll dive into the dugout, he'll crowd the plate, he won't flinch when a fastball is riding in.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 What are the options here if Jose goes down? Pilar? Brad Glenn maybe? Gose, then Gose, then Gose Anyone here how long Lawrie is officially out for?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Gose, then Gose, then Gose Anyone here how long Lawrie is officially out for? No official word yet. Some have speculated 3-4 weeks.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 What are the options here if Jose goes down? Pilar? Brad Glenn maybe? Gose and Pillar IMO. Either way, Gose coming up for sure for the Yanks series.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Any kind of break is usually 4-6 weeks. I don't think they'd let him come back too soon after it unless XRays showed it was healed and after a short rehab stint. Also depends on where the club is at that point. If they fall out of contention, there isn't a point in rushing him back. The depth is so thin it's almost like they'd randomly pull someone out of the stands to play an inning here and there.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I'm trying to think of GM's that might be looking at the Jays and calling right now. Daniels isn't going to deal Beltre without the Yankees and Sox (and probably most of the league) being involved in a bidding war. Maybe Daniel Murphy with the Mets but he's not a name so he's probably as valuable to the Mets keeping him as he is in trade value. Luis Valbuena is the one that makes the most sense. Cubs have loads of middles coming up through the pipe (and probably would take Goins as a stop gap throw in until September). The conversations have likely already happened with the Cubs so we'll know which of our pitching prospects they like. It's becoming a very fitting matchup between the two.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 AA wanted a 2B or 3B already More incentive now
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I think we need to tough this one out. Id rather we deal for pitching than 5-6 weeks replacement at 3B. If there is going to be a move for 2B now would be the time, I just don't see us getting any quality without weakening the SP trade.

I somehow think that a SP trade isn't going happen (at least not for a front line pitcher). A two or more year 2B probably does more for this club at this point and moving forward. But if this team truly believes in Francisco as a future option that probably won't happen either.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Chase Headley + Andrew Cashner/Ian Kennedy please
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 The Jays are paying Lawrie to play for them. He is an asset and you always protect your assets. You make it sound like the likelihood of Lawrie getting plunked on the hands is the same as a pitcher getting drilled in the head with a line drive. Well if the Jays were so worried about protecting their assets they would have gotten rid of the Turf a long time ago .
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I just googled "Juan Francisco" and look at the google images that pop up. looool, epic

AlbertaFan Verified Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Lawrie out 4 to 5 weeks at least? Brutal!! I hope he's back for the Angels series(highly unlikely, but one can hope). Me and the girlfriend are driving down from Calgary to Anaheim to watch our first ever Blue Jays game. It would be nice if everyone was healthy

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Lol @ blaming Lawrie. How would you know if hand protection makes it harder or uncomfortable for him to hit? It's not like he was batting Jason Kendall-style, give him a break. Think it's only fractured ! Lol
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Chase Headley + Andrew Cashner/Ian Kennedy please I know it's not sexy...but I think it's realistic to seek Valbuena from the Cubs. He's got two more years on his contract and is only a tick below Lawrie defensively at both 2B and 3B. I saw a Yankee article suggesting Severino would get it done for them...which would likely equals Norris for us. Seems like a big price for a non impact bat but it's probably about the Cubs asking price.

Hit San Fran on your way back as PacBell/AT&T is the nicest park in baseball IMO and again nice fans or drive down to San Diego as a Petco baseball experience is great.
