eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Proof that he actually LIVES in the van? No way he lives in it.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 From various articles... "“I’m not really sure why I do it, to be honest,” said Norris, who’s been camping out in Dunedin since Jan. 25, weeks before minor league camp is set to begin. “Travelling alone and living on the road can be tough sometimes, but learning to answer my own questions can be very rewarding. I desire the journey, the adventure, and well, the surf.” He likes living simply, staying faithful to his roots. Road trips with Shaggy are part of that. “It was a really cool experience for me, learning how to be self-sustainable,” he says. “That’s just kind of how my mom and dad raised me: learn to live on what you truly need and not really anything more.” --------------------------------------------------------------------------- He doesn't always live in it during the season since the team buses around together and they get some accommodations, but other than that he lives in his van.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Daniel Norris basically can't get any awesomer. I can't get enough of him.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Since Boyd was sent back down to Dunedin after his early season promotion to AA, Norris, Boyd and Cole have been the pitching version of Murderers Row. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ibp&cid=424&stn=true&sid=t424

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Whats New Hampshire's playoff situation looking like?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 "Dominant" is an understatement. Taylor Cole http://i.imgur.com/4DUddYX.png Daniel Norris http://i.imgur.com/8ZYwPmB.png Matt Boyd http://i.imgur.com/m7KJxTq.png http://i.imgur.com/bxUVjco.png One would be remiss without stating that Boyd and Cole are both old for the level,... But in the case of Cole who went on his Mormon mission for two years after being drafted and didnt throw a baseball for those two years, he's now just getting his full arm strength and velocity back. Last year and the year before he was only pitching in the mid to high 80's, this year he's getting back up into the low 90's http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140611&content_id=79084182&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 NH's bats are horrible. Flores is okay, Jimenez is trash/a bust/a trashy bust, Burns is playing like s***, etc. Their only legit hitter is Schimpf, who really deserves a promotion ffs, and Fermin and Mesa have started off hot. Everyone else is pretty trash.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 16 games back of 1st place in division, not looking good. (28-40 record) So nothing holding him back from a September call up to the bullpen
flafson Verified Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 So nothing holding him back from a September call up to the bullpen The position players in NH will probably make him look bad, good challenge.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 As expected, Norris promoted after the ASG. Well deserved, he's been on a roll since mid 2013. What I want to know is why Cole hasn't been promoted. He's been dominant and is older so I figure they'd be aggressive with him? Guess not.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 It would have helped a lot had our Lansing rotation stepped up so someone could have been promoted at this time... Robson + Cardona = broken Labourt + Tirado = Demoted De Jong = mediocre That's true. I think Graveman was promoted from Lansing to Dunedin earlier in the year so at least that's one.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 The point was being , if one of those arms stepped up it would be a lot easier to replace Norris + Boyd + Cole in Dunedin. I suppose they could demote Bibens Dirkx or Copeland.. Or just keep on keeping on demoting Romero wherever a paper weight is needed!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Taylor Cole is old as s***. I wanna see Patrick Murphy pitch

TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 You can't walk 5.5/9IP in AA and think this won't end in disaster http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=johnso002ran#standard_pitching::none oh yeah and Norris....clearly rushed.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 The guy everyone wants to trade Sanchez for, Samardzija, had 4.2 BB/9 and 5.2 K/9 in 110.1 innings at AA. Then took three seasons to get out of AAA and establish himself. Career 3.9 BB/9, 3.9 K/9 in the Minors. There's hope for Sanchez. More pitchers than you'd think struggle mightily in the minors before figuring it all out after a half-dozen pro seasons. It's not impossible, absolutely. But the question is, what's the mean production for guys with that output and how many real success stories are there? We have a couple, Halladay and Shark, but there have been thousands of flame outs in MLB history obviously.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=johnso002ran#standard_pitching::none Let's pick the one out of a thousand. Sanchez is much more likely to end up like Daniel Cabrera and even then Cabrera had better walk rates in the minors.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Oh I agree with you guys. I'm just saying that control is a strange thing and pitchers improve non-linearly. There's a real chance that Sanchez wakes up one day and has it. I Hope so, but I think he has a much better chance of leading the league in walks by a handy margin.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I'll always cheer for him but you gotta be realistic.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 No, I think it's obvious that he's much more likely to end up as one of the five best pitchers to ever play the game. ---- Obviously Sanchez isn't going to be Randy Johnson. But he supposedly has a repeatable delivery and is still very young. It's repeatable, but it isn't very good, so it kinda negates any benefits of it being repeatable lol.
admin Site Manager Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Repeatable delivery of pitches off the plate is never good! lol In all seriousness, if he has such a great delivery, this walk problem should have been fixed.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 On topic, apparently Norris may have got heavily scouted by the Cubs & Rays: http://www.torontosun.com/2014/06/15/blue-jays-could-use-a-power-arm-in-their-rotation "Lefty Daniel Norris made his 13th start for the class-A Dunedin Blue Jays on Thursday at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium before 809 fans and watchful eyes. Chaim Bloom, Tampa Bay’s director of baseball operations, and two Rays scouts were there, as were Cubs vice-president Tim Wilken, along with Blue Jays assistant general manager Andrew Tinnish, special assignment scout Russ Bove and pro cross-checker Dean Decillis. Norris, 21, pitched five scoreless innings against the Daytona Cubs, allowing three base-runners on one hit and two walks, while striking out three. Norris lowered his ERA to 1.22 and has walked 18 and struck out 76 in 66.1 innings. Now, the Rays and Cubs scouts could have been out for a drive and saw the lights and stopped for a hot dog, or they could have been checking out the Jays prospects. "
