dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Today on PTS, Zaun had an interesting trade proposal. Stroman and sanchez for Price and Zobrist. Would anyone on here do this trade? Zaun is pretty clueless, tampa would laugh at that offer.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Re: Minor League DIPS, Daniel Norris has the best FIP in all of affiliated baseball at 1.65! (http://www.fangraphs.com/minorleaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=50&type=1&season=2014&team=0&players=0&sort=16,a) Fellow Dunedin farmhand Taylor Cole is third (behind Norris and Felix Hernandez) with 2.00. My BOY. Some guys don't need much time in the minors. Check out Dwight Gooden for example. True, but he hadn't really been dominating A+. Today on PTS, Zaun had an interesting trade proposal. Stroman and sanchez for Price and Zobrist. Would anyone on here do this trade? If we locked them up that'd be trade rape
leaffie Verified Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 And if they couldn't lock them up??
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 And if they couldn't lock them up?? I, uh, I'm not sure if I want to think about that. We could probably lock up Zobrist though.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 First off, nothing Zaun says is interesting. Second, I love the idea to trade for both, but giving up Stroman and Sanchez to do it doesn't make sense, price takes stroman's spot on the rotation and you're still running Happ out the every 5th day. So you improve a bit from Stroman to Price until the end of next season and you've given the Rays a very good pitcher for the next 5 years, and Happ is still throwing like a retard. The whole point of trading to improve the rotation is to get Happ the f*** out of it, not make a marginal improvement over Stroman. Zobrist on his own has a lot of value, but how he gets his value is not typically something that fetches a big return in trade, so while he would be a good target, there no way I'd give up a top tier arm as the centrepiece of a deal, especially when he's walking into FA after next year, no chance they get a pick by offering the QO, There wouldn't likely be any want to re-sign him either given his age, and the fact that he's not having a good year. All of that together, Right now he's a buy-mid to buy-low type of asset. Top tier talent in return would not be necessary
flafson Verified Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Zobrist has a 7mil option for next year.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I would give up Sanchez for Zobrist though. Easily. If that's a trade they take I want them to do it. Even if Sanchez turns out well, Zobrist is an incredible baseball player and comes pretty cheap.

Not because I don't think Zobrist wouldn't be good, but because there's no way any other team would be offering a top 50 prospect for him, so why would the Jays need to?

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Today on PTS, Zaun had an interesting trade proposal. Stroman and sanchez for Price and Zobrist. Would anyone on here do this trade? It's almost a case that wouldn't make sense for either team to do. Tampa could almost certainly get more in return trading them separately, and we have so much trouble getting pitchers wanting to come here that trading away two young high end potential ones doesn't make sense for us either. The only thing that would make it somewhat reasonable for our end is that we'd have control over both next year as well.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I wouldn't. Not because I don't think Zobrist wouldn't be good, but because there's no way any other team would be offering a top 50 prospect for him, so why would the Jays need to? I think the Cards would. And the A's. Maybe the Cubs. The Yankees, though they don't have much. Maybe some other teams.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I think the Cards would. And the A's. Maybe the Cubs. The Yankees, though they don't have much. Maybe some other teams. Colorado, Giants (He's a true Giant), Braves, Brewers
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Cubs wouldn't, they're in the middle of a rebuild and actively trying to trade Shark, next year they'd just be trying to trade Price. The As can't afford his next arb deal. I Agee the Cards have the prospects, but they also don't do those types of trades bringing in guys for 1 year. Yankees just dont have the prospects.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Cards could lock him up, you never know with the Yankees, maybe the Phils depending on what way the wind is blowing through Amaro's empty skull, the A's could find a way, Giants/Braves like Ang said. There are potential fits. And I think I'd rather give up Sanchez than Norris.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Washington could really try to go all in if they were willing to part with Giolito. I doubt the Rays would settle for Cole even though he's still pretty good. Top 5 of Price, Strasburg, Zimmerman, Gio and Fister....
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Giolito >>>> Sanchez. That'd demolish, pillage and violate our offer.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I wouldn't. Not because I don't think Zobrist wouldn't be good, but because there's no way any other team would be offering a top 50 prospect for him, so why would the Jays need to? I disagree. I would move Sanchez for Zobrist. Teams know what value Zobrist provides and it's fairly significant. I'd only do this because he has that option and because I am not high on Sanchez at all. The guys I refuse to touch are Hutch, Stroman and Norris. I would consider moving Nolin in a deal, but I think he can be in the rotation mix for next season and should at least be a slight upgrade over Happ if not more.

I just think Zobrist's 4+ WAR days are over.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I just think Zobrist's 4+ WAR days are over. he's already at 1.3 this year and hasn't hit worth a lick. I don't think its out of the question he could reach 4 WAR by the end of the year.

He's been asked to play everywhere and a lot the last few years. Good chance you get destroyed in that trade. In fact Tampa should be doing everything to be trying to make it.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I just think Zobrist's 4+ WAR days are over. Probably, but his positional versatility would be enormous for this roster. It would allow for a lot more flexibility and AT&T he same time strengthen the quality of the bench by pushing Francisco. It would never happen though.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I just think Zobrist's 4+ WAR days are over. I don't think you realize just how good at picking up the WARz Ben Zobrist is. He's having his worst year since 2007 and is still on a 3.7 WAR/150 pace. ZiPS pegs him as a 4.4 WAR/150 true-talent player. He doesn't need to be a markedly good hitter to get to 4. He would be an amazing acquisition.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 It was also funny that Fernandez was killing AA. Jose Fernadez is soo good he dominated AA and No one saw a single pitch. Move over Chuck Norris. I'm just playin haha
