TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Chris Cotillo could break the news shortly, I guess. You actually think he's going to tell him? Who knows, he hasn't told any big writer or news site yet, would be kinda weird if he told an 18 year old kid. ...or maybe that's where Cotillo has an advantage, he's the same age as the kids being drafted.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 That f***er is deleting his tweets to the players. Of course he is, it doesn't look good for someone to act like a shameless scavenger out in public and then call themselves an MLB insider.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Local products Lugbauer, McKeon taken in MLB draft Dan Pietrafesa, Poughkeepsie Journal 9:56 p.m. EDT June 7, 2014 A pair of local products were selected on Saturday in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Arlington High School senior Drew Lugbauer was selected in the 21st round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Alex McKeon, a John Jay High School graduate who recently completed his junior season playing for Texas A&M International University, was selected in the 31st round by the Boston Red Sox. "It's probably the greatest feeling in the world. I couldn't be more excited," said Lugbauer, who added he's still planning to play next season at the University of Michigan. "I hope in three years I can take the two off that number and be a first-rounder." Lugbauer, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound catcher, signed a National Letter of Intent and is scheduled to be a catcher next season at Michigan. "We spoke to the Blue Jays before the draft and they knew I was going to school. I'm really thankful they selected me," Lugbauer said. "I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing and try to develop as a player to the best of my ability (at Michigan)." McKeon, a 6-2, 200-pound catcher, hit .354 with 28 runs, 21 RBI and three home runs for the Dustdevils, appearing in 47 of 50 games, to earn First-Team All-Heartland Conference honors. f*** you, Lugbauer

Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I think it shows the MLB process in place works. It doesn't cripple your system for taking a risk on a 'hard to sign' guy. Jays benefited from a bit of draft luck and were able to select solid value in their make-up picks. Teams need this security around high-schoolers/juniors if they are going to try and draft the BPA without fear of rejection.

They can supposedly work him out a bit and give him a closer physical while talking to him a bit more. A few years from now that extra info may make a difference, not to mention drafting him made him really happy with the organization.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Not sure if it's been posted. BA's draft impressions. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2014-draft-first-impressions/ Toronto Blue Jays The Jays walk away from the 2014 draft with three first-round talents and other athletic high school players with upside, the organization’s modus operandi. The Blue Jays drafted college players with their first two selections for the first time since 2009, the final draft under the J.P. Ricciardi regime, before drafting four consecutive high school players. Toronto covets upside and athleticism and their first two picks, righthander Jeff Hoffman (No. 9) and catcher Max Pentecost (No. 11), offer both of those traits in spades. Hoffman is one of the most talented pitchers in this entire draft and it’s highly unlikely he would have lasted until the ninth selection had he not had Tommy John, likely in contention for the top four picks. Pentecost, who has plus arm strength and speed to go with improved receiving, has a good chance to hit. Prep righthander Sean Reid-Foley (No. 49) is a first-round talent who will likely receive over-slot money with a fastball up to 96, plus slider and competitive strike-throwing ability. Prep lefthander Nick Wells (3) gives the system a projectable arm with a fastball up to 93 and curveball that shows plus potential. Prep catcher Matt Morgan (4) and outfielder Lane Thomas (5) offer athleticism and up-the-middle defensive profiles. Morgan has a line-drive stroke and above-average pure arm strength, though his arm hasn’t consistently played at that level in game action. Thomas has a quick righthanded stroke with plus speed and an above-average arm. Junior college lefthander Grayson Huffman (6) and college righthander Justin Shafer (8) bolster the pitching depth. Huffman is an athletic, strike-throwing lefthander with average fastball velocity, an above-average changeup and curveball that shows at least average potential. Shafer is an athletic two-way player who has ran his fastball up to the mid-90s on the mound. Toronto has signed high school players drafted after the 10th round to overslot deals in the last two drafts and has some attractive targets for similar deals this season; lefthander Jake Latz (11), righthanders Tanner Houck (12) and Zach Pop (23), as well as outfielder Todd Isaacs (22) and catcher Drew Lugbauer (21). Middle infielder Gunnar Heidt (13) was considered a single-digit round talent before a broken hand in late April.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Slot $760,300 Lol Mariners WTF!? Gareth Morgan isn't even a definitive second-round talent. Good for him I guess lol. Btw King, I PM'd you a while ago! Need some advice
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'd like one of Papi or Lugbauer, to go with Jansen + Morgan + Pentecost. Is it confirmed Todd Isaacs Jr is signing yet? I'm hoping for Houck and T.I.

Caper Verified Member Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Question. If a player commits to college and sends a letter to all teams asking them not to draft him; and they oblige. Can the player then change his mind and declare themselves a free agent?
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hopefully good news on the Hoffman front. The pick before him signs for 2.3M or 890K below slot. Hoffman at anywhere from 2.5-2.7M would be a big win IMO.

Can the player then change his mind and declare themselves a free agent? nope. Would be eligible for the draft again next year and for the next 3 years if they kept doing it.
