I didn't want to jinx it but this is exactly what I thought he'd sign for. Excellent.

 

I think when all is said and done, Foley was locked up for a lot less than people expected him to get, and Pentecost and Hoffman will cost a lot more than people expect. I feel like they'll both be at or slightly below slot. I hope I'm wrong on that and they have a ton of budget left over after the big three.

Nice to get him locked up right away. Doesn't sound like we are gonna have any trouble with the top 10 guys we grabbed.

 

The interesting part will be how much money can we give to persuade some of the later round guys to come.

I'm excited for Hoffman, and I don't think he's going to come as cheap as some people think. Of course injury doesn't help with his leverage, but this guy was probably going to be a top five pick in the draft if he wasn't hurt. I can't wait for him to start pitching here. It's like we got a top 5 pick.

Hoffman doesn't really have any leverage though. He won't be able to pitch in time for next year's draft, since Tommy John takes ~14 months to recover from. Teams won't like him as much next year if he turns down our offer, since he'll have rehabbed from TJ without their supervision. It shouldn't take slot.

He is expected to be back on the mound at the end of May. Really would have maybe a couple weeks infront of scouts and probably wouldn't be starting. So really he has no leverage if he went back. But hes fully expected to sign. And assuming they already discussed a price tag to take him at 9 with an injury. Interesting they would use the protected pick to take him though. He would have still been on the board at 11.

I'm not sure we get the full value of a punted pick, but hopefully we can net 100k on it. Given how the top 3 picks shook out, I'm less worried about making it up in Rounds 11+. Would be very happy with one of Houck or Latz, although I'm thinking Latz goes off to school to work with his Papi.

Nothing actually. I don't know why I wrote that. The tards at HFBoards for whatever reason were under the impression that Zehner isn't a sure sign, and for some reason I thought I had read something about it myself, but when I checked I couldn't find anything.

 

So I went back in this thread and realized that I hadn't read anything about Zehner and that I was actually thinking about Wellbrock (who isn't an issue, since he's after the first ten rounds):

So that's my bad. Still, for whatever reason, people on HF believe that he's undecided. This is the exact quote:

Some things to update on the table

-Miller and Wellbrock are signing.

 

Unless I missed something, there still isn't anything concrete on Wells' actual signing number.

 

The Miller and Wellbrock signings are also not confirmed (that article didn't really say anything about Miller actually having signed, and Wellbrock's tweet could mean he's just going to Dunedin to get a physical).

 

That being said, I'll put Miller and Wellbrock down as signing for now, but not gonna put a number on Wells till it's official.

Zehner hit .316 with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 16 RBI, platooning in left field for the first two months of the season before earning the starting job full-time in mid April.

 

He was nowhere to be found on Baseball America’s top 500.

 

Now, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior left fielder from San Diego

will have to decide between a lucrative bonus for signing this year or coming back to potentially bat third for a Mustangs team

looking to defend its first Big West Conference title next season.

 

“Everyone wants to get drafted,” Zehner said. “You want to play pro ball.

I think I’m just going to have to sit down with my parents and talk about the opportunities I have on both sides and make the best decision for my career and my family.

”

 

MLB’s assigned bonus value for the pick is $192,400. The Blue Jays are not locked into offering Zehner that amount, which is negotiable, and the former Santa Barbara City College transfer could improve his draft stock by returning for another year and moving up in the draft.

 

Seniors, however, traditionally command significantly lower bonuses, and only two seniors were selected in the first three rounds this year.

I've read it.

 

Wells said Toronto is paying slot for the position he was selected. Wells declined to say the bonus amount he will receive, but MLB said the slot value for the No. 83 overall pick is $661,800.

 

He said "slot" but we don't know if it's exact slot or not. He's declining to say the actual amount. BA or someone would have posted the number by now had it been confirmed.

 

There's no rush needed to update the OP, we've got him as signing, that's good enough until we get something concrete

 

Even BBB don't have a number in their table, all they have is "Near/at slot".
