Just got back home. Working on the thread.

Signability, I remember last year our team fed the media that we were extremely confident Bickford would sign and had no worries..........................but then he didn't sign.

I knew (hoped) all along that they were posturing in an attempt to punt that pick to 2014, where everyone was in agreement that it would be a massive draft. There's zero incentive to punt a 2nd round pick to 2015 for us, especially with a talent that dropped (total opposite of reaching for Bickford). I really hope that they genuinely believe they can sign him, and actually get it done. The Blue Jays are the one team you can count on in that regard. Nobody in their right mind would have thought that they'd sign Tellez and Brentz, which is why 29 teams let them slide so long.

They'll get it done. I believe in AA to sign him. He's a first round talent, and there's no advantage to punting it.

Floyd was a pretty good player though. I think if SRF became as good as prime Gavin Floyd most people would be pretty happy. Most scouts and analysts see SRF more as a 3 starter than a potential ace. He's physically not that projectable, and stuffwise will likely be the about the same player he is now (Low to mid 90s fastball, plus slider, average change and curve) albeit with more consistency and polish.

So looking at our total bonus pool and our individual slot allotments I tried to figure out how much money we could potentially have to spend on any fallers on day 3.

So looking at our total bonus pool and our individual slot allotments I tried to figure out how much money we could potentially have to spend on any fallers on day 3.

So let's say our punted picks amount to a bonus of around $50,000 total or less (likely less). That would leave us with roughly $847,800 saved just from those picks. Now our bonus pool amounts to $9,458,500, but we are allowed to go over by 5% while only having to pay a tax. That 5% calculates to $472,925 more we can spend. So if you add that to our savings from the punted picks we have about $1,320,725 to spend on one guy who falls or to spread between two players. Last year Brentz and Tellez signed for 1.55M total. This isn't even taking into consideration any possible savings we could get at our other picks.

And don't they only count the overage on $100k against the pool? If spent on one player, we'd then be able to spend $1,420,725.

I have a very good feeling they're going to sign him. I feel like they'd pick the guy they want to actually sign in Round 11, and then pick the incredibly-tough-to-sign guys later just as fallbacks or to test their chances.

I moved all the original posts down one and made the OP a tracker (just for the remainder of the draft) where people can just refresh to see the Jays latest picks so that they can watch the game in between, instead of having to follow this thread.

Might it be worth it going crazy and just drafting all the good players and then signing them all regardless of the consequences.
