G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 A difficult question He was so effevtive first half last year and was always the best option for innings 7/8 against RH batters. What happened? What does Gibby do??
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I have faith. Maybe he needs to get back on that weight ball program. But he was good for more than just last year - really hope he gets it back

What happened? What does Gibby do?? Honestly its just relievers Sometimes they just have bad years, and he hasn't even been that bad. If one of his HR turned into a fly ball and he had 2-3 less walks, he would be having the same year as last year. I think that things are going so good that a lot of people on this board are looking for problems

LOL I'll calm down. if Delabar can just stop walking the first batter he faces almost every time.

These are the guys we should hold on to. I still don't understand why its a bad thing to give frasor 3-4 Mil a year, he is having another great year in Texas

LOL I'll calm down. if Delabar can just stop walking the first batter he faces almost every time. Loup's peripherals were always healthy though, I don't think anyone was actually worried about him. Already at 0.7 WAR. Delabar isn't striking many guys out, he's walking everyone, and he doesn't get any ground balls... it's a 125 xFIP-. That's backed up by his fastball being down a mile and a half and his SwStr% being down 3.2 percentage points. He still throws hard and with two strikes the splitter can be a put-away pitch, but I'm not just going to assume regression will fix Delabar. There are real strikes against him.

Andy Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 send him over to SD. Balsley will fix him

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 You mean relief pitchers aren't consistent?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 A difficult question He was so effevtive first half last year and was always the best option for innings 7/8 against RH batters. What happened? What does Gibby do?? After Delabar most of last year anything from Thames deal is icing. His Ks are down and his BBs are up. Still has the stuff. I would move him out of high leverage hold situations and see if he can get it together...he just hasn't been able to get it done. Going to have to be Dustin for awhile. Neither is a premium option. The reality is he has been regressing since after the AS break 2013. The fact that Loup and Cecil can also get RHH out reasonably well makes it a bit less worrisome, but our pen is light this year. Spoiled in 2013.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I would move him out of high leverage hold situations and see if he can get it together... I'm sure Gibbons will do this. I remember Gibbons doing a nice job of this a few years back by rotating guys like Frasor, Speier and others through higher leverage situations based on how they were doing.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Is up by 5 a high leverage situation? Gibbons is already doing this, but there will be times when he has no choice but to bring him into a tough spot. In order for Delaball to fix his mechanics, he'll have to pitch and this may come with a blown lead or 2.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Lott on Delabar: http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/06/04/toronto-blue-jays-steve-delabar-making-mechanical-adjustments-to-get-back-on-track/ The key take-away from Lott's piece: The Toronto Blue Jays right-hander, a bullpen stalwart last year, knows he has developed a tendency to drift toward third base as he lifts his left knee to start his delivery. As he tries to compensate, what happens next affects both his command and velocity. “Essentially, I’m going one direction and then I’m trying to throw another,” he said. “It’s like you’re fighting yourself.” He has been working on adjustments, but it’s not simply a matter of going to the bullpen in the afternoon and fixing the problem for that night’s game. For one thing, a reliever knows he must be ready to pitch every night, so regular bullpen sessions are out of the question. For another, like a slumping hitter trying to fix his swing, the restoration process doesn’t happen overnight.

It sounds like he could really benefit from a demotion but there just aren't any call up options right now. Maybe Korecki when his 10 days are up? Wagner is pretty seriously injured and all of Stilson, Rasmusen, Draberk, Nolin are dealing with lesser ailments.
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Maybe he should shave his beard. I don't like it. Definitely causing him to fall to the right, chin heavy. He doesn't deserve to have it anyway.

BarkatToronto Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 What i'm wondering about is if he's hurt or not. according to Gibby on the radio, he isn't hurt, he just needs to let it rip.

I still think Gibby was a bit too quick to go to him in leveraged spots the way he was throwing. That's changed now I think.
