HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Uhh If we really want a defense only 2B, then why not bring up Goins... I'd go take a look at dealing for Beckham and Quintana.

I think the idea is to get someone who can contribute on both sides of the ball. Murphy is basically reverse Goins.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Our second base and rotation holes have been hyped up for a year and a half lol. I don't understand the no mention at all. And the A's rotation has been one of the best in baseball, 84 ERA-. Some "glaring hole."
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 It's nice knowing the Yankees don't have assets to acquire a good starter. Their best asset is Gary Sanchez. Maybe some dumn GM will think "Heathcott is an athlete durr" but looks like the Yankees will be sticking to the Hamels of the world.

DrSunshine Verified Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Jays interested in Chase Headley: http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jun/27/padres-chase-headley-blue-jays-trade-interest/ Cheers
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Jays interested in Chase Headley: http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jun/27/padres-chase-headley-blue-jays-trade-interest/ Cheers He's getting really unlucky this year, although his walk rate has dropped a little. Would be a great pickup if he doesn't cost much.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Really doubt Headley will help much. Has not played well the past couple years. The price tag will have to be cheap. Would prefer Daniel Murphy. I want Lawrie at 3B. "Has not played well the past couple of years" 2012: 145 wRC+, 7.2 WAR 2013: 113 wRC+, 3.5 WAR 2014: 79 wRC+, 0.7 Aside from this season, in which he's getting pretty unlucky, care to explain how that constitutes "not playing well?"
DrSunshine Verified Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Between Lawrie & Headley, Jays will have third base covered for 162 games... he just had an epidural for the herniated disc! Cheers
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Well first off take 2012 completely out of the equation because that was his career year nothing more. He has been awful. 2013 you can make the case he would have been better in a hitters park. 35 doubles and the On base looked good. LOL @ taking away a great year just because it's "his career year." He has a great career walk rate, doesn't K much, and plays excellent defense. Career 113 wRC+ is not too shabby either considering the value he adds with his glove. He has not been awful in a long time.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) Jays interested in Chase Headley: http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jun/27/padres-chase-headley-blue-jays-trade-interest/ Cheers At the very least, a healthy Headley presents a defensive upgrade over switch-hitter Juan Francisco, who has hit 12 homers but is batting just .164 in June. For Headley, Toronto’s home park, the Rogers Centre, would provide a considerably safer landing spot than pitcher-friendly Petco Park. Maybe Francisco is better hitter from right side and he doesn't know Edited June 27, 2014 by Angrioter

He has been awful. 2013 you can make the case he would have been better in a hitters park. 35 doubles and the On base looked good. Hes injury prone and extremely inconsistent. Changing leagues won't help either. To be fair your the one who brought up the whole "hasn't played well in the last couple of years" argument
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Jays in exploratory stage for Headley http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24600231/considering-2b-blue-jays-eye-headley-but-so-far-not-murphy-or-weeks It's funny how during ST Gibbons and some players said that it was foolish for the Jays to try Lawrie at 2B in 2013. And now it seems we are going full steam ahead with Lawrie as our full time 2B. Make up your mind kids!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 The Blue Jays have a second-base issue, and interestingly they've looked into a trade for third baseman Chase Headley but not yet second basemen Daniel Murphy or Rickie Weeks. The reason for that is two-fold: 1) the Jays are open to moving third baseman Brett Lawrie to second base upon his return from a broken finger. 2) they are said to seek more defense at second base than they believe Murphy or Weeks provide. Holy f***, Jays FO is a bag of fagots. Baseball is a sum zero game; you can improve your team adding runs offensively or defensively.
Convo Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Holy f***, Jays FO is a bag of fagots. Baseball is a sum zero game; you can improve your team adding runs offensively or defensively. OK calm down... Weeks is supposed to be garbage defensively, you actually want this? Not sure it's even an upgrade.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 OK calm down... Weeks is supposed to be garbage defensively, you actually want this? Not sure it's even an upgrade. Other than the fact that he's expensive and doesn't provide value on either side of the ball, what's not to like about Weeks?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Defense is kind of important - in particular @ 2B. Do we really need another Bonifacio experiment? Weeks is arguably one of the worst 2B in the NL, if not the ML. Pass. I thought the sarcasm was obvious.
Convo Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I thought the sarcasm was obvious. HA ha.... it was, I guess I need my morning coffeee.

I did not refer to Weeks, I referred about the 'line of thought" Murphy is an upgrade over GG Barney, Goins or Ozzie Smith.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 This is likely or not likely to be team related or personal?? Melky extension? New line of smoothies? Trade for a SP? New T shirts with JB logo? LOL

In the last 3 seasons, he's 10th (of 18) in wOBA among qualifying 2B... take that how you want it. And btw, Scutaro is 9th, Hill is 6th (f***) KJ would be 16th (of 19) if he qualified, Boni would be 17th (of 19) if he qualified, Izturis would be 19th (of 19) if he qualified.
