That quote seems super scary. If they f*** up this draft because they don't have enough money to go over slot of even to slot that is a disgrace.

I hope they don't try to go under slot for the first round, they have close to $6 million to spend on their first round picks and I don't want to see any Chad Jenkins or Deck McGuires with such high picks.

Shields, once again leading the Royals staff, is due to become a free agent at the end of this season and could be a prized addition for a contender." In effect, let's sweep the Royals so we can take a shot at Shields I don't think we will be after that kind of player. Taking AA at face value, we'll be looking for lower tier guys heading to FA rather than the elite names. To me, it sounds a lot like a guy such as Beckett or Masterson.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Cliff Lee has a sprained elbow, and has no timetable to return, if he returns at all? I don't get why people keep mentioning him. As for this tweet we don't know if it's real, and it's not like he answered the question or said anything egregious?! well unless it's season ending he's still worth a look, i'd rather avoid epstein entirely and RAJ is pretty retarded

As soon as they got all those players, the next question asked was "Do they still have more money to spend?" Fans will always want the team to get better, I get that, but at this point our payroll is not the problem. Actually nothing is the problem, the players, the manager managing them, the coaches coaching them and the GM that assembled the players all together have us sitting in first place by 3 games.

Is he ever going to figure out the control and should the Cubs target him in a package for Shark? Jordan Gorosh: The problem for Sanchez is that his FB has so much natural movement that it's difficult for him to control it. I'm a Stroman over Sanchez guy, not to say I don't like Sanchez, but I'm not enamored with the profile. He's hardly ever faced a guy 3X through in a lineup, has never thrown at all when tired or after 100 pitches, and it's hard to learn those things at the MLB level. If I were Toronto, I'd be fine moving him for Shark, and wouldn't look back.

Rogers will spend more when they believe it will yield higher profits.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Still hoping the Stro Show is back on by July and he doesn't have to over pay for a SP...

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 The rise of Jesus Christ (Norris) has made it easier to swallow losing Sanchez. Enough with your love for prospects, keep in mind it wasn't too long ago that everyone was in love with Drabek and how he could turn the corner. Yeah his stuff isn't close to Sanchez (but stilll pretty good on it's own) but look, no one is considering him at all on the 25-man in the near future.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I was thinking Sheilds last night and what it would take to acquire him. AA said he wanted to get just rental player which is exactly what Shields is. I don't know if we can get him though without Sanchez

Shields is durable and the kind of guy we could use to stabilize our back end. But he is a flyball pitcher so...

Sanchez for shields and a penant race, count me in.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Shields should be worth half of a Wil Meyers and half an Odorizzi... that's how it works right?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 everyone was in love with Drabek This quite simply is not true. Only people who were responding to hype were in love with Drabek. Anyone who looked under the hood noticed that the numbers really didn't support the hype. If his last name wasn't Drabek, there's no way he would have cracked any top 25 prospects lists. Some prospects that look totally legit bust (Snider) but Drabek's prospect ranking was B.S. from the start.

You can't tell me all these scouts that watched him looked at the name rather than the stuff. Everyone knew Drabek had a great 2-seamer with movement as well as a superb spike curve. That's well enough to give him the prospect ranking he deserved. A 3rd plus pitch would have him great. But of course we know his downside was not stuff, it was command. If that were the case he would have at a minimum made a great reliever. Although with his latest outing with 0 K's, who knows what happened to him.

The Cubbies had scouts watching Eduardo Rodrigeuz , and Hunter Harvey this week and also Kevin Gausman. Shark sweepstakes are already on and the O,s seem to have the best shot.

The minor league numbers were never that good and I tend to think scouts are full of s***. The reason I didn't like Drabek is the same reason I don't like Sanchez now. Too much conjecture and not enough results. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=drabek001kyl

It seems plausible though. Morrow as the #5 guy and acquire a #3 type starter and the rotation does not look terrible. I said at the start of March if the Jays could be 5 games above .500 I would be Happy. Needless to say my expectations have been met. If we can play 5 games above .500 for June we will be in good shape and there should be no reason not to add 1 more starter and finally play meaningful games in August and September.

On a slightly related note, is anyone else super irritated that they haven't converted Drabek to a reliever yet? He has the stuff and the velocity to stick in the pen. I have no idea why they keep trying him as a starter. He doesn't have the mental makeup to be able to handle it. We need help and he could be a boost.

Now that Quote scared the s*** out of me . i can't believe Rogers would deny the Jays a chance to draft quality because of a few million. We will know soon. I'll really be pissed if AA doesn't spend his full amt. on this one of the best draft classes for those of us not in the top 5 . Talent is deep this year and we need to reload the farm.

He is out of options so the jays need to see if he is a pen piece before too long as it is obvious he isn't a starter.
