eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Any knee soreness for a freaking catcher has to be considered somewhat serious. Luckily they have the 75M dollar man to back him up!
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Tampa up early on Detroit. Hope they can hold on.
shortstop Verified Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 one thing about Swisher is his winning attitude seems to rub off on those around him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Tampa up early on Detroit. Hope they can hold on. Price getting no run support today vs his old team. 1-0 in the 6th.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Thanks for the help Tampa. Jays are now miracuously only 4 games out of the WC!
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 We just need September to be another May. Thats all.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Only! Hey man if I told you that we'd be 4 games out on August 21st before the season started would you have been disappointed?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 We just need September to be another May. Thats all. It might happen. Most of the games are vs. AL East teams. But we really need to beat Tampa and Baltimore.. and of course there's the Seattle series.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 But 5 losses back. Tied with the Indians in that department. And the Indians get multiple series against the Astros, Twins and ChiSox going forward. At this point last year, the 2nd wildcard team was 71-54, instead of 68-57. Thank the lord for mediocrity. Indians aren't going to make it. They have injuries to Swisher, Murphy, Raburn, and have a weak starting rotation after Kluber. And there's no Stroman/Norris/Sanchize in the Indians system coming down the stretch.

BTW, Detroit has double-headers coming up in the next two weeks. And after they disappointed vs. the Rays today, they've got their work cut out vs. the Twins and Yankees. They're .500 vs. the Twins.. and don't even know who their starters will be on Saturday. Currently, Detroit's probables are: Ray (FRI), Verlander (SAT... maybe), TBA, Scherzer (SUN) And Saturday's will depend if Verlander if healthy.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 MLB kind of feels a bit like the NHL with this 2nd WC in that the league's mediocre teams get to experience playoff pushes late into the season. Not really a fan.

Not really a fan. Yes, but it's a necessity to boost attendance in markets. Also, the NFL is getting ready to water down their playoff system as well by expanding the wild card AGAIN. It's not just the MLB.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Tigers/Royals have easy series ( Twins/Rangers) coming up. We really need to win 7/9 on his homestead to get somewhat back into striking distance.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Orioles play early today vs Cubs
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 If they win 6 or 7 in a row starting tonight then they could be playing meaningful baseball in sept. Obviously a tall task though.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Honestly though just get to within two games of the WC and it could get interesting.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Honestly though just get to within two games of the WC and it could get interesting. Yep, it would be exciting and sell tickets, even if chances of making it are slim.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 It really does suck that Baltimore ran away with the division though because our Sept games against them could have REALLY been something if they were still in reach.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Yep, it would be exciting and sell tickets, even if chances of making it are slim. It would sell tickets and keep interest up. It's likely only a matter of time before the playoffs expand again, for exactly that reason. Artifical parity is great for revenues.

I don't like the idea of expanded playoff spots, but at the same time I don't understand why the MLB doesn't expand. It would drive up revenues for several teams during the season and also bring in more playoff revenue and ratings.

Royals have an easy stand, but the Tigers do not.. they're 4-4 vs. the Twins this year, and won't have Price in the series.

I'm pretty scared that they're going to be inclined to go in that direction when they see how even one extra WC spot has increased interest late in the season in multiple cities. Teams like New York, Toronto, Cleveland, and Seattle would be playing out the schedule at this point in past, but are now in the thick of a playoff chase. That's a quarter of the league! I hope it stops here though. The NHL has turned itself into an absolute farce trying to maximize revenues across the league until the season is over.

How is that when the kings won a cup as an 8th seed a few years ago?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 How is that when the kings won a cup as an 8th seed a few years ago? That's kind of my point. You cheapen an 82 (or 162) game season when you expand the size of the playoff pool. I'd rather see a small amount of teams that have proven that they're elite over a full season than give half the league a chance to go on a run in the playoffs and have mediocre teams winning championships.

Maybe you're right but I like seeing 8th seeds beating the 1st seeds. Its exciting.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 The one thing I would definitely change is have a 3 game series for the wild card. This one game playoff is bull s***.

Those Kings were dominant in the playoffs and would have had a higher seed if not for the incompetent Terry Murray coaching them for half the season. They then backed it up by following that championship with a WCF appearance and then another Cup. I wouldn't say they're "mediocre."
