Hes playing plus defense and has shown a good eye at the plate. He has had good at bats versus lefties like Lester as well. He had a 0.9 WAR going into today’s game against Lester and the Red Sox. Yes it is a small sample size but what are your thoughts on Gose so far this year?

It's Gose's tenth game, I don't have any thoughts on him so far. The defense has been great but we've always known it would be.

The only thing that can be evaluated with any confidence is his defence. And its gold glove calibre, easily. Gose himself said he wants to win Gold Gloves.

Last month a lot of posters were calling him a bench guy. He's more than that.

If he keeps developing he should be our everyday starting CF next year

Personally..I'd prefer it if the Jays packaged Rasmus with a guy like Nolin and other prospects and make a stab at Jeff Samardzija. Go with Gose and Pillar platoon in center.

The lineup flows better with Gose sitting 9th instead of Rasmus. Gose has better defence and a better eye at the plate. He may not have the power, but he does have the speed and a better OBP.

As for the drop off...I feel the added bonus of adding a top of the rotation starter to a group that already includes, Dickey, Buehrle, and Hutchison is what the Jays need to do in order to compete and win the division.

Should probably wait until he's had at least 11 games to even start this conversation.

I'd say 12. I just have a good feeling about that number. 12 games it is.

Can you please explain why the f*** you think the cubs would want Rasmus? He is a free agent next year.

Hi new to the board i think gose can stick hes taking walks and playing great D. Go jays smash athletics tomorrow

Gose is a starter. On D ++ ability and on O he will learn to get all the OBP he needs with drags, hits and BBs cutting down his swing a bit as he matures. His swing is llllllllooooooonnnngggggggggg now but some signs of improvement. He can track em down...he is cheap and he is fast = Sold!

Yep, cheap and fast. The best combo you can have in CF, fast food and Hookers at the French Maid.

If Gose can keep up the recent improvement to his walks, I think he's got a future, if not he's a platoon bat/late inning defensive replacement/pinch runner... I hope he keeps this up, but this is a big turnaround, and I'd want a larger sample to see if he can stick with the good eye.

Yup, with his speed its all about D and his OBP. not concerned about his avg or OPS too much.

It's scary how much Gose reminds me of Devon White. He's got the same legs and the same bat , I would put his bat 2nd behind Reyes. I may just be having 93 flashbacks but it reminds me a lot of Henderson and White. It just really sucks because I'm a self professed Rasmus Fanboy. Whatever happens with Rasmus I just hope we can keep him somehow.

I think you're overestimating his offensive potential

#9 hiter seems likely which is fine but I can't see him approaching a .270 ish career BA like White

With the cost of the Reyes and MB deals along with signing CJ (and paying the RRs and Morrows of our world), there is not much chance we keep Colby and Melky. One maybe. We really need Gose to develop.

Agree. If he does it great. White took awhile to develop but was a different type of hitter imo. I have to say it was a treat to watch Devo glide under a ball and have to say the same about Gose (and he has a f***ing cannon).

But Zaun said Gose could bunt .350

Isn't the ability to type "f***ing" on this board so f***ing ****tastically liberating?

Devon White had power.

Yeah. He struck out more than you wanted from a leadoff guy, but he made good contact and had some power.

I've always been hard on Gose, but still advocated a Gose/Pillar platoon in centre all off-season and get value out of Rasmus. This is still a guy that's a .232/.316/.300 slash line against lefties while playing in 2 hitters parks in the minors (with a 30.1 K-Rate). We can't expect that to improve long term in majors (might add that his current good numbers are being carried by a 4 for 10 against LHP). The defense is real and if Pillar isn't their guy...than get someone else to fill that role. CF's that hit LHP are often available cheap (I mentioned Craig Gentry in the off-season, who is a career 110 wRC against lefties). Rasmus was very replaceable by a good platoon.

On a semi-related note, Rajai Davis has regressed to pretty much exactly his career norms, now sporting a .268/.317/.377 slash line, though has stolen 14/16 bases.

Are they still batting him leadoff??

No shocker there! As if 32 year old RD will suddenly realize he isn't a HR hitter and learn to lay off a 2 strike breaking ball from a RHP.

f***tard SEMPAI has been going on about the loss of the great Rajai the Saviour the entire season. Most hit thread on old Board. Nauseating stuff.

RD is what he is. A decent 4th OF with tons of speed and avg D (at best) and a noodle arm.
