jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 With the revelation that AA payroll is pretty much max'd out and they don't want to trade top pitching talent and look for more rental guys i think we can rule out us trading for the likes of Cliff Lee, Shark, and David Price. Brandon McCarthy get's a lot of love here as he should although Ian Kennedy is quietly having a very good season too. ( 3.59 ERA, 2.88 FIP, 2.93 xFIP) We would only have to pay him a pro rated 6.1 million he's making this year. The Jays have the 3 worst xFIP in baseball - 4.28 only behind the Twins and White Sox. Buehrle and Happ will likely regress. I know it's early for this and realistically the earliest we would see a trade is early July but given the circumstances McCarthy and Kennedy should be the Jays top targets. Rentals who won't require Stroman/Sanchez/Norris ect.
shortstop Verified Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 kennedy & McCarthy make sense...free agents in 2016 and 2015 respectively and salaries are fine...both Arizona & likely Padres are not playoff bound...on performance, kennedy has been better this season... kennedy will get $7-$9m next season in his final arb year... another candidate is Liriano if the pirates are out of it - right now, 5 games out of a wildcard and slowly getting back to .500...$6M salary this year, free-agent next year, but seems to be having a very inconsistent season...of the 3 though, he's a LHP kennedy seems to be the having the best season & under control for 1 more year...
flafson Verified Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Kennedy is short almost as much as Stroman, someone might be able to make the case that bringing him here would help Stroman develop.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Agents: Scott Boras. Never mind, i don't think AA will take him.
jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 If this is the post random trade ideas that may have crossed AA's mind thread, then here is my stab at it (and I know I'm going to get picked apart for this one): To Cubs Stroman and Sanchez To Jays Shark and Alcantara Giving up the arms is painful but this year could be the year to go for it and Shark could make our rotation a lot more legit. Getting Alcantara may help soften the blow to the future by filling our 2B hole. Stroman and Sanchez greatly strengthen the Cubs future rotation just down the road. For those of you who are saying that the Cubs wouldn't just thrown in Alcantara since they were already asking for Stroman and Sanchez; Jays may have to add some depth to their end of the deal ala Davis. Anyway, have at it.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Agents: Scott Boras. Never mind, i don't think AA will take him. He's already under contract. I don't think this would be a huge deal if the Jays could get him for a reasonable price.
shortstop Verified Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 good catch flafson, can essentially cross off Kennedy.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I would love to see Lee here, the phillies need bullpen help. They wouldn't take Happ back. Phillies fans dislike happ. It's known they phillies don't want lee anymore. Why?? Would kill for Lee on this team, salary be damned
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Gruber, just trust me on this. They don't view Lind as enough of an upgrade to move the #1-3 prospect in baseball for one in the 30's-40's. I would LOVE this deal, but agree with you its wishful thinking.
Kingvikingstad Verified Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Hopefully without derailing this thread completely... Is there any realistic possibility the FO can convince Doc to come back and pitch for the second half of the season? How do you think he'd do/would it be worth it? In my eyes, even after slowing down in his last couple years he's going to be as good/better than any 5th starter we're going to have. In important games down the stretch of the season, his experience and consistency would be very valuable. Just a thought.

His stuff was in the 80's and not sharp and that is why he decided to retire.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I would LOVE this deal, but agree with you its wishful thinking. Anyone who wouldn't love that deal should probably delete their account and take up stamp collecting or something.
