Brenner Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 So closing in on June and Jays are tied for 1st. Could still use another SP and some talk in media about going after the Shark again. Who do you think we should target and why? The Shark is definitely going to be available, but the cost seems astronomical in prospects. Cliff Lee and/or Cole Hamels could become available if Philly's struggles continue. Lee seems like the ideal fit, but still owed a ton of money, same with Hamel. How about someone like Brandon McGarthy? Is pitching well on an expiring deal for a terrible team. Other options for a SP upgrade?
magits Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 McCarthy isn't the big deal. McCarthy would be great and probably wouldn't cost too much. Same with Hammel. Shark would be ideal but would cost more...

Hammel would actually be awesome. It seems that hes found it again and he was quite good in the AL East.... Gose for hammel?

I really like Lee (obviously) more than Hamels give hamels' monster contract. Lee is signed for 2 more years with 27M option for 2016. 12.5M buyout though :/ Lee wouldn't cost much if we can eat his contract. Sanchez + Nay for Lee and we eat lee's contract? I'm all on board
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 There is little doubt that we will need a starting pitcher. By the trade deadline we will know more about this team and if the Juan Francisco/Tolleson/Lawrie platoon is working and if we possibly need another reliever.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I want no part of what the Cubs will ask for Jason Hammel
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Dallas Keuchel will be the guy (Happ 2.0)
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Common Bro, he's 0-4.... No wins? Pass. Kyle Gibson please.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Except Dallas Keuchel would probably be the best pitcher on Toronto's staff. Dallas Keuchel is s*** and you know it. Low K High BB High HR High value right now Happ after trade: 156IP (7.71 K, 4.78 BB, 1.21 HR)/9 Keuchel 2013: 152 (7.20 K, 3.05 BB, 1.17 HR)/9
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 this is why you keep getting relegated from the pl. Keuchel added a slider and has been legitimately fantastic so far. sss

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Ian Kennedy would be my target and to a lesser extent Edwin Jackson.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Yes, but 61 innings isn't nothing, and there isn't anything that suggests he's been lucky as opposed to good. Sometimes guys just figure things out and come out of nowhere. Like Corbin and Kluber last year. It's a moot point anyway, because there's no way Houston is selling an above-average 26-year old starter with less than two years of service time. 50% agree but....................Kluber and Corbin was able to get K's in minors.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 2nd base targets? Off the top of my head...Brian Dozier, Daniel Murphy and Chase Utley. Dozier would be real nice....but the Twins would likely ask for a huge return.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 He probably won't keep K'ing 8/9, but he has an ability to pound the bottom of the zone pitch after pitch with his sinker and his slider is a swing and miss pitch to both lefties and righties. Watch him pitch. The guy generates a ton of swinging strikes and IIRC leads the league in GB rate by like 5%. This doesn't look like a lucky stretch. Guy is good. He is skilled, not talented; his HR rate scare me.

Bunchedundies Verified Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I want to see AA make a move sooner rather than later. Yep, this team has a shot, time to make a move before the O's or Yanks do.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Stroman (or Sanchez), Rasmus, and two other second tier prospects could get us a decent pitcher

Sure he got lit up in his first start but then I woke up. Maybe he got better?
flafson Verified Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Samardzija has a 1.46 ERA, his value is through the roof No way that the Cubs take that offer He has a 0-4 records, he is garbage. Or the team around him.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 We need to make the first move. The price will only go up after the first team strikes for a SP.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 He has a 0-4 records, he is garbage. Or the team around him. Buehrle 8W-1. Walker, Franklin and Muerer for him please.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Ian Kennedy would be my target and to a lesser extent Edwin Jackson. I've always like Ian Kennedy, what kind of package would San Diego ask for? I know its early, but I'm quite sure San Diego won't be in the running for a playoff berth in 6 weeks.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 We need a 3 way trade that involves us giving Rasmus and getting a pitcher.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 We need a 3 way trade that involves us giving Rasmus and getting a pitcher. I hesitate to give AA the chance to be bent over by two GMs instead of 1. We'd likely end up giving up Rasmus, Stroman and Sanchez and be left with nothing but international slot money and whatever Sp AA had a hard-on for 5 years ago who's now nothing but a long reliever in the Mexican league.
