Hindsight always gets spread all over boards when teams lose and the manager is usually the target . Personally i haven't seen him throw a pitch yet. AA has put him him a huge hole with his roster management. Gibby wanted McGowan in the pen and that is where he provides the most value.

However now that Happ is in the rotation and McGowan,s FIP is starting to trend downwards slightly the question is where is he the most valuable. Happ won but didn't pitch great,(better than I expected but not great). You can't expect a bull pen to keep pitching 4 innings a game.

We all know McGowan and Happ will get more starts and how many will not be determined by their FIP. Pray Stroman gets lites out from now on.

Gibby has done a fine job. Referring to pulling Dickey too early is ridiculous - in that one game against Baltimore he had men on 2nd and 3rd with none out until the pen bailed him out. People complaining about pulling Dickey too early are probably the same people complaining about Dickey and saying he's a lost cause. Just look at the batting average of teams the 3rd and 4th time through the lineup against Dickey - nothing wrong with pulling him based on recent history.

I would have no problem firing Gibby if there was a better option out there. But I have seen no evidence to claim he's been a terrible manager. I think his in game management is good enough - I question if the non-tangibles of his job are strong enough but that's hard to evaluate from the outside.

It's almost as if the manager has little to no control of the outcome of most games! Wow, who saw that one coming.

Premise is okay. Reasons are really dumb.

Premise isn't OK. There is an age old battle between the dismal cruel elite (such as Beeston) and the true working class men of the people such as John Gibbons.

Gibbons represented everything that is good about the world and every single bit of success the Jays have can be attributed to him.

OK. I'm being a bit nuts. Let me take a step back from the crazy-farm.

I don't like Beeston obviously. Never have. I like Gibby. Good guy. Smart manager.

Why a bunch of mostly working class stiffs feel the need to diss Gibby at every losing streak is beyond me. They are Gibby. Good guys working hard. Hope Gibby is getting credit in the good times. He probably is as this thread is getting bumped but haven't checked out the end of it yet.

Yeah. Despite going on and on about Farrell last year I don't think the manager has much effect. Farrell just couldn't work with idiots. I guess that was the point I was trying to make with all the Farrell posts.

Gibby is a good guy. Savvy. Perfect manager for this team (assuming upper management is idiots). Farrell would probably argue with Beeston and/or AA. Gibby is savy enough to get what he needs without butting heads.

Beeston - Cito says we gotta pull the ball. Maybe we should move Murph back to hitting coach.

Gibby (needs to get the on base percentage up but Beeston hates on base percentage) - What about we get the Sietzer guy. He played with George Brett.

Beeston - George Brett?? The guy was a gamer. What a hitter. He must of pulled the ball. Hire Sietzer.

See... Gibby knows how to manipulate Beeston and probably AA in an friendly old country boy way... Farrell couldn't do that.

Oh... I smell a fire Gibby guy, that doesn't like the taste of crow.

Nope

Just tired of the frequent thread bumps on here lately

I've never once suggested Gibbons should be fired.

Wait... you mean the players on the field have a bigger impact on the games than a guy chewing gum in the dugout??? That's a pretty bold suggestion man.

Interesting theory you have there, haha.

Gibby is a genius at managing Beeston.

Gibby knows the Oakland A's have 5 computer whiz's. Gibby thinks Jays should get some computer whiz's but knows Beeston won't like it.

Gibby (unplugs his lap top and lets the battery run out) - Shucks my computer doesn't work.

Beeston - Wow. It won't even turn on?? Listen up people, we need to hire Gibby a computer guy to help him with this.

Say what you want about Gibby but his 3-man 2B/3B platoon is a pretty damn good move from a manager. There are probably plenty of managers out there who wouldn't even consider it.

Gibby was always a platooning type manager. His first stint with the jays he platooned Cat/Johnson and got amazing results. If i can say one thing about him he does not prescribe to a 1 man one spot lineup.

Gibby walks into Beeston's office - Nov 2013 -

Beeston - "It was a tough year. Heads might have to roll. Roger's coorporate policy is that everybody gets 25 seconds to defend themselves. Speak."

Gibby - thinking... pausing... thinking... 10 seconds left... "If we don't win this year we'll win next year, and if we don't win next year we'll win the year after that."

Beeston - "I like this guy. Next."

(running out of material... this ones a rerun from some other thread)

Beeston calls Gibby into the office to talk about the Lawrie/Francisco/Tolleson thing...

Beeston - "I don't understand it, and I don't like it. Who's on third?? Who's on second?? It's like that skit. It's just like that silly skit and that's not the Blue Jay way."

silence -- long pause

Beeston - "Cito what do you think?"

Cito - "Do they pull the ball??"

Gibby - "Right down the line. Sometimes right into the dug out. Keeps us awake in there."

Cito - "If they pull the ball it's OK with me."

Beeston - "If it's OK with Cito, it's OK with me. Have at'er."

sigh...bump this thread when the Jays win 7 in a row and 11 of the past 12 just to make me look like an ass.

This thread will go into oblivion if the Jays lose 10 straight like the Red Sox did just prior to winning last night. Christ people are calling for Farrell's head in Boston a month an a half into a season following a World Series win. Fickle bunch. At least my fire Gibbons rant had a bit of merit..Gibbons hasn't won a division, an ALDS, ALCS or a WS title. At least Farrell has.

As previously mentioned it is like Managers really don't play much of a roll in the outcome of a game.

Just because you don't know what their impact is doesn't mean the manager has no impact. It's like saying in poker that the winner is always the one with the best hand.
