KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 If it does turn out to be Getz, you'd have to think he's being lobbied for by one of his former Royals coaches, either Gibbons really likes him or Seitzer thinks he can fix him (sigh). The only way Getz makes sense is a speed off the bench guy but that pushes Diaz into an everyday role not to mention that Mastroianni could just as easily be the speed off the bench guy while also doing both of Sierra's jobs (backup OF, RH bat) more competently.
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Getz career: 67 wRC+ Goins career: 45 wRC+ 22% difference "same with the bat" lol More like a 50% difference over Goins? I thought you said you were smaaaaht wtf kid?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 More like a 50% difference over Goins? I thought you said you were smaaaaht wtf kid? wRC+ is in percentage above or below 100. The 22 score difference between 67 (Getz) and 45 (Goins) is a percentage difference based on how wRC+ is calculated.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Storey or....rob Rasmussen ??? To be cut is my guess...and who the hell is rob rasmuseen? Throw-in relief pitcher we got in the Lincoln for Kratz trade
shortstop Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 confirms imo how stupid it was for AA to come out & anoint Goins in the off-season...should've just said he'd be competing for the job...instead, anointed him & has basically said he doesn't have confidence in him... that said, it's the right move sending him down here's hoping jays can get above .500 after this series against the royals

I'm not sure I trust Seitzer's judgement. He said he could make a man out of Goins, and he did significantly worse than last year with his "new approach". My prediction, Goins never plays or the BJ's again.
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 But Kawazaki's awesome! Apart from having an OBP way higher than the 3 that were mentioned previously (and the fact that he put up 0.8 fWAR last season) he's entertaining as hell. Hence why I would care if he got the call or not He's not awesome, his defence isn't all that good for a guy that's supposedly on a team for defence. 2B they can maybe get away with it, but he's a mediocre short stop and someone has to back up Reyes. I'm sure that aspect is one of the main reasons that Diaz and Goins were still in the mix.

Reminds me of that pitching coach that many years ago said that he could fix Victor Zambrano in 10 minutes, and the organization that time (Rays) traded away Kazmir for Zambrano. That turned out well..

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Of course they will announce the move right after I post this...but shouldn't the Jays have announced the move already to get Getz on the 40-Man roster? If its just paperwork to remove one of Storey, Rasmussen, etc., why haven't they announced it yet? A larger move in the works perhaps??????????????????????????
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 DAMN IT Blue Jays-Official @BlueJays 18s The @BlueJays select the contract of 2B CHRIS GETZ from @BuffaloBisons. To make room on 40-man roster RHP MICKEY STOREY has been released.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 @AndrewStoeten Jays make it official: Getz up, Mickey Storey off the 40-man to make room.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Waste of a 40 man spot that Stroman should take, but whatever there are other wasted spots. Yeah Storey was never coming back up so that's fine Still hoping they DFA Sierra before long and Bring up Mastro or Gose

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Sierra has now amassed -0.7 WAR in just 310 career PA. Impressively bad
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Thames. Sierra. Goins. I wonder who it will be this year? The team only has one OF under contract next year, so Gose and Pillar will probably be given every day spots in 2015 after having decent Septembers. PA for below replacement level players . I love it.!!

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Lol.. I was at a couple Baltimore games in BAL a couple weeks back with my 11yo and we always sit front row visitor side to get max autographs and balls for him.. So Goins came over and I was pushing my son to go get his auto for the experience but my 11yo son was keen enough to be like "dad.. He sucks, he won't even be on the team next month"..

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Thames didn't have to be a disaster. I would have bought him as bench bat and half a DH platoon entering the season if Lind weren't here. Thames as an everyday LF was egregious though. An egregious error that carried on in Seattle of course until they then released him. Hehe
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I was just looking for the statistical argument for Kawasaki and to my surprise I didn't find it. Fangraphs has Getz at 1.2 wins over 449 games (0.00267 per game) and Kawasaki at 0.3 over 160 games (0.00188 per game). Normally, I wouldn't advocate making personnel decisions based on who's hot in a small minor league sample but in this case should we really have a problem with it? Other than the fact that you had to open up a 40 man spot (at the cost of an inconsequential player) for Getz, I don't really see the argument against him.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 That's not nice from an 11 year old. We're not judging character. We don't know what kind of men these guys are behind closed doors. Goins is not a mlb baseball player. He sucks. You have to accept it
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 At least one. Yes but that guy probably gets bullied by Beeston into being quiet "Check the organizational chart!"
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 It doesn't really matter at all. Until someone is brought in from outside the org, the team can keep up the 2B carousel of Diaz/Goins/Kawasaki/Getz and none is really tangibly better than the others IMO. That's what I'm starting to suspect. I was under the lingering impression that Kawasaki had better number than he does, I guess it's because JFaS champions him. Goins has the lowest floor but otherwise there's not much to choose from.
