GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Lol no. Same with the bat, Goins is better at D Getz career: 67 wRC+ Goins career: 45 wRC+ 22% difference "same with the bat" lol
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 They think Getz is better than Goins right now, and neither is a long-term option so they're going with the better player. The difference is almost insignificant and Goins has the potential to be something more so I don't get it. This move isn't going to effect our result at the end of the year lol.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 The difference is almost insignificant and Goins has the potential to be something more No, it isn't, and no, he doesn't.
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Getz career: 67 wRC+ Goins career: 45 wRC+ 22% difference "same with the bat" lol Lol don't even try Goins is not a 45 wRC+ hitter
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Lol don't even try Goins is not a 45 wRC+ hitter Oh, right, except he is and that's his career mark and he's really s***** so yeah.
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 No, it isn't, and no, he doesn't. The difference is less than half a win. and yes Goins' D gives him more upside
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Oh, right, except he is and that's his career mark and he's really s***** so yeah. You know Goins would probably be in the 60s in a full season. That .174 BABIP isn't doing it right though lol. And you love BABIP
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Except, he is. http://i.imgur.com/TSwo430.png http://i.imgur.com/sTVshUi.png But he's not. Its SSS. He's in the 60s or high 50s
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Question is can Mastro be far behind? Bye bye Sierra. Also does Morrow have options? And would McGowan clear waivers? Thanks
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I wonder if Alex is embarrassed about assembling a "contending" team with no second baseman? I mean, he literally just decided his team didn't need a 2B. He also didn't acquire a starter even after saying he could even get 3.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 The difference is less than half a win. and yes Goins' D gives him more upside Getz's bat gives him more upside
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 But he's not. Its SSS. He's in the 60s or high 50s So is his defense and also I'd like to see how you can prove he's in the 60's or high 50's.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Getz isn't on the 40 man but Kawasaki is. Kawasaki is a better baseball player than Getz I don't Getz it?
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 McGowan and Morrow maybe both to pen. Kinda useless if they can't get into 5th inning as starters. They could be dominant in pen though.
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 So is his defense and also I'd like to see how you can prove he's in the 60's or high 50's. The ROS projections have him there. I'm trying to find the MLE calc but having trouble I'm curious as to what it says
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Getz isn't on the 40 man but Kawasaki is. Kawasaki is a better baseball player than Getz I don't Getz it? ha ha
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Oh wait, Getz is hitting .300 in AAA. Makes sense. #scouts
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Getz's bat gives him more upside Getz has 0 upside. He is what he is. Goins' has limited experience that would allow him to possibly be better with the bat. We've already been over this
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 So is his defense and also I'd like to see how you can prove he's in the 60's or high 50's. Nah all evidence points toward him being a plus defender
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Nah all evidence points toward him being a plus defender Not at his current level
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I have limited experience that would allow me to possibly be better with the bat, but right now I'm not better at baseball than Chris Getz. In that regard Ryan Goins and myself are much the same. But you don't play plus D.
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Not at his current level This year: 24 games---4.3 Last year: 34 games---6.5 Quick math says its about the same rate. The same rate you said was (and is) entirely unsustainable. But there's no evidence he isn't plus
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Goins' defense this year was as advertised, too bad his bat was even worse than expected. Shocking that it was even possible.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 For those in here who follow prospects, Adonys Cardona was pulled from the game in Lansing after an alleged arm injury. Now we can all cry together! Not a prospect
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 This year: 24 games---4.3 Last year: 34 games---6.5 Quick math says its about the same rate. The same rate you said was (and is) entirely unsustainable. But there's no evidence he isn't plus Total amount of games - 58
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Goins WAR/PA is way higher than Getz's. So Idk what else to say guys. There's no way having Getz over Goins makes any sense
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Total amount of games - 58 Show me your data that says he isn't a plus defender.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Everybody calm down. Temporary move with the LHP ahead, reason for Kawasaki not being called instead of Getz. Management obviously has no trust in Diaz's bat, especially that late inning pinch hit disaster when he didn't even take the bat off his shoulders with a man on third with less than two out and watching three hittable pitches go by. If AA has no plans on re calling Goins later this week, then he has plans in signing Drew. Either way, i'm happy. There is zero chance that Getz and Diaz stay on the roster long term, ZERO.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Goins WAR/PA is way higher than Getz's. So Idk what else to say guys. There's no way having Getz over Goins makes any sense 1) not it's not. Fangraphs.com, bro. 2) WAR is descriptive, not predictive. 3) it makes a lot sense if the organization thinks that Goins can fix his bat a bit with a trip to Buffalo
