G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 And that was before today I can't find a site that shows FIP by team In any case. this team is being KILLED by giving up walks. We stand no chance of doing anything at this rate.

Fangraphs? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=17,d This shows that they have the 5th highest xFIP (therefore 5th worst), so ironically it matches ERA, though that doesn't count this game.

"We're always looking to add," Anthopoulos said Wednesday. "Anyone wants to add a frontline starter each year. We just want to improve the rotation. Clearly the results were what they were last year. Part of that improvement will come internally. "Any way we can improve the rotation, we would do that. A clean fit is adding one [starter] if we could, and if two become available, three become available and they're better than what we have, then we would look to do it." http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20131205&content_id=64418446¬ebook_id=64418796&vkey=notebook_tor&c_id=tor

Well over a huge sample size (we're talking almost a month of an entire team here) FIP and ERA should be reasonably close I would think?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Not really, it's only 200 IP. You need around 1200. Gotcha - so a full season for a whole team essentially

People are over reacting here when the projections are going to balance out by the end of the year and the Jays will finish ahead of the Yankees. Or have the projections changed yet?

I would think any projection on Morrow should be changed drastically
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Time to fire the pitching coach!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 It seems like every starter except Buehrle's walk rate went way above normal the moment they breathed the same air as Walker. I'm still surprised he kept his job after 2013.
leaffie Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I have never been one to fire the coach right away, but there is something drastically wrong. Where are the stats guys? Have our pitchers given up WAY more walks this year than last at this time?

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Me too. I generally hate scapegoating, but Mottola always seemed like the wrong firing if you were going to fire somebody. It did seem odd, but some pointed out how Gibby didn't get a chance to hire his own guys when he was hired. This one could be on Gibby as well as the bullpen management this year. I just don't get why managers think that it's ok to bring in your high leverage relievers to keep the other team from adding to their lead and not ok to bring them in early in games to prevent the other team from tying the score or taking the lead.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Reading that BS, really hurts. I know. Did he mean it? If so, why the f*** did he let every single FA starting pitcher go elsewhere? If he didn't mean it, why did he say anything? Every single person in the game and every fan knew he needed to improve the rotation and he didn't. Massive stupid fail.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 We had Ervin Santana within our grasp.. if it weren't for the Braves suffering so many injuries, Santana would be a Jay right now. Rogers didn't pull the plug. And really, there weren't a lot of good options. And we weren't blowing money on Cano, who is struggling in Seattle BTW. Some of this problem could be fixed by getting Stroman and maybe Nolin up here, DLing Morrow and moving McGowan to the pen.
