kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 To move on from Happ , call up a starter and move McGowan to the BP ? Running with an 8 man BP yet never using him seems stupid . Obviously there is no trust in the guy since he has only pitched 1and 2/3 innings while the Jays starters are 27 th in innings pitched . McGowan hasn't been sharp and while I was one who pulled for his move to the rotation I now agree with some on this board that he is better suited to the BP at least for now . I give him two more starts ,but if his command still isn't good then it is time to move on . Thoughts ?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I think you are pretty close. You have Stroman waiting in the wings and you could easily pull the plug on Happ and send McGowan to the pen and Stroman gets the rotation spot. I think you have to give Dusty a couple more starts though.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Good thread, bad title, mind if I alter?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 McGowan has shown enough to me to be given at least 5-6 more starts. The stuff is there, the velocity is there. He's just run himself into a few tough jams that he couldn't get out of.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I don't think you worry about doing that for a while yet unless Dustin really implodes. His first start he was tipping pitches, but was good in the second and struggled the same as everyone else in the third with nasty conditions in Minnesota. All things considered, imo he hasn't shown anything to suggest he shouldn't be in the rotation right now. edited: To be clear I'm referring to not doing anything regarding McGowan. Happ should be banned from ever setting foot in the stadium again.
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Agreed Happ is a wasted spot but I don't see why McGowan should be moved to the BP yet and who would you call up this early? Stroman? Jenkins? All things considered McGowan has done good for a 5th starter and no one expects him to be pitching deep in to games. More expectations should be on guys like Morrow & Dickey, even Hutch to be eating more innings. Think of McGowan's 3 starts... His first big league start in 3 years was home opener (no pressure) and his last start was in 0C weather... Cut him some slack. Happ on the other hand, who know what to do. If they can get just an ounce of worth out of him being a long arm when games are out of reach, they might be able to salvage something via trade, even a pick and eat some $. Jays are too cheap to buy out his $4.5m contract and they can't send him down from veteran status.
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 McGowan is awful and should be pulled from the rotation in favour of Redmond. Good call actually. This seems most realistic if things don't change.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 McGowan is awful and should be pulled from the rotation in favour of Redmond. Redmond is in an ideal role right now imo.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 McGowan is awful and should be pulled from the rotation in favour of Redmond. I would give him two more starts but have a designated long man ready . (Redmond ? ) With a WHIP approaching 2 there isn't a hope of getting thru 5 innings . His one start against Baltimore was OK but 1 in 3 doesn't cut it . He would become the long man so it isn't like he can't move back into the rotation . Also he isn't going to pitch 180 innings although who knows what his innings limit is .
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Serious. McGowan is not good. You do know he's coming off so many injuries and the Yankees start was full of flukey hits right?? He'll keep getting better as he's shown so far this year. Twins start was a bit of a step back but his Ks are good, walks are improving. He just needs to stop throwing so many pitches lol He would be a good one inning killer reliever though. 95 our of the pen with a killer slider, sounds like Santos. Still I prefer him to the rest of the candidates atm
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 The lost point in this thread is how long do we keep a guy we aren't using . Happ is just eating up the pregame meals and bench space Not like they can trade the guy even if they eat salary cause he isn't pitching . Still have NO clue why they didn't use the whole 30 day rehab
IBTrini Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 McGowan is awful and should be pulled from the rotation in favour of Redmond. Nobody is running away in the division as yet and I feel we have not really seen what he can do so give him a few more starts - He may still surprise many on here.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I leave McGowan in for several more starts before we know what he's really got. He's the first to go if he is failing, and is the one most likely replaced if Stroman is banging down the door in September. And yes, he is most likely to get hurt too. if he does, Redmond Happ or Stroman gets the spot. I don't envy AA in having to make THAT decision.
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I'd leave McGowan in the rotation for now. Call up Stroman when the first one gets hurt
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I'd leave McGowan in the rotation for now. Call up Stroman when the first one gets hurt Wat do U tell J A Happ
Caper Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Not sure if srs Of course he is. He said Yan Gomes was a useless scrub, who should quit baseball.
Caper Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Stroman has much potential... But as of now... He will struggle to go beyond 5 innings.
GoldBull Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 When Stroman comes up, I want it to be for the long-term. If somebody goes down for a couple weeks, Redmond should be getting the starts...
IBTrini Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Wat do U tell J A Happ Sorry big boy, but your stuff is just not up to snuff?
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 Wat do U tell J A Happ I have managed to give you away for 1 ball , I asked for a bag but towers thought that was too much .AZ is desperate and they will take you off our hands as long as I pay all but 0.6 mil of your salary .
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Happ is certainly scrappy, white and devoid of talent, so he'd fit right in Towers' ideal player mould.
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Wat do U tell J A Happ Tell him he's been traded
0ctobyte Verified Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I think McGowan should get some more starts.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Redmond isn't exactly a better option. Both were pathetic today.
