Caper Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Call up Schimpf already f*** 25 dingers and .350 OBP (.210avg) Yeah... I heard he gives a good ab.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Oh I don't disagree. He was awful last year. But I'm going by the projections for this year, which factor last year's disaster. Maicer is about .2-.4 WAR higher than Diaz. Even more than Goins. As for my comment about not having enough replacement level players, that doesn't really hold water. We have Getz and Tolleson in AAA, they aren't any worse than Diaz and Goins. Diaz . Kawasaki has to be the choice. Goins getting into any game that doesn't have a 5 run differential is indefensible.
Caper Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Players always seem to find creative ways to get injured - Dugout steps, spiders, recliners, blenders, etc. Feel bad for Izzy and hope he recovers fully. Hate seeing any player get hurt. Traded or DFA'd is another matter of course. I think it really is the best for the team though. It's good to have the flexability to be able to send guys down when you need too.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 we need to sacrifice a virgin to the baseball gods in hope that Reyes doesn't spend more time on the DL. time for Fatcow to take one for the team.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Just sign Drew already. I agree....shame that izzy got hurt. I thought he was our best option for 2nd. The drop off from izzy to Goins/kawa/diaz shouldn't be that huge though. Of all the regulars to be out for an extended time, izzy was the one you would want to get hurt if you choose one.

Boras whining doesn't help him either.

Caper Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 The Jays have protected picks...just offer him 8 mil and be done with it. Not a bad idea.... but if his defense doesn't play.... that's a huge difference for the pitching.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 The Jays have protected picks...just offer him 8 mil and be done with it. at this point, not making an offer is almost criminal.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 they were never going to kick in. it was a media hype to put ownership on the spot. the same power play wont work again. millionaire players tried to embarrass billionaire owners.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 The silver lining to this is it may force AA to acquire another INF. (Just hoping it an everyday 2B)
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 You don't want him to do something stupid either. If you want to upgrade you have to give up something. AA was unwilling to part with prospects this off-season. So he wants to trade guys from the 25-man. Alex Andhisfloppyass needs to trade at least 1 if not 2 pen arms. throw in Sierra and get a 2nd baseman. he could even trade Jansen and bring up Stilson. if that isn't enough capital to get an upgrade at second, AA is completely useless.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Throw in Happ just for good measure.

With Reyes coming back and it being April there' probably 2 months or more of a slowly revolving door at second before he'd pull the gun on a second basemen, they can carry no bat - all glove there for a while and odds are someone has a good week or two in between to push back the seemingly inevitable realization that the guys they're hoping can do the job aren't major league starters. This team needs to be in the thick of things in warm weather, with a healthy pitching staff, before any big moves get put into play for positional players. Frankly for the short term, given how early it is, I'd rather see them try and pick up a bat for the bench, because I can't imagine how a team would acquire a starter in April without paying out the ass, other than the obvious free agent who's not coming here because they "really like" Goins/have no money.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 Agree with jippidy A RH hitting 4th OF/DH platoon type is a more realistic target right now
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I feel bad for Izturis, seems like a decent guy and was off to a good start and looking like he would fulfill his role as a back up infielder. I guess it'll be a 3-headed monster now at 2B. At least they'll play solid defense at 2B which couldn't be said last year.

But of course AA simply refuses to pull the trigger on that Happ, Sierra and Rogers for Robinson Cano trade that is surely out there.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Well... this doesn't really matter at all. This is the only position that we could replace without much loss . Still it is a loss He had made the adjustment to the turf and was definitely better defensively plus was a switch hitter . Kawasaki will have to platoon with Diaz . It is a loss just not as bad as losing any other player .
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I don't really get how this is "funny" to everyone. You all are twisted. And it hurts a little bit. The guy was the best of our crap infielders for one. And second, if we lose any more infielders then what? Replacement level players are pretty plentiful but not every org has a bunch at every position. good post +1
