Favorite baseball movie (my top 15)

I'm surprised The Babe beat out Mr. Baseball. I haven't seen either but The Babe seems to be nearly universally loathed.

 

Both have identical ratings on IMDB (obviously not a baseball community) but thinking about that one again, I would agree with you and put it in place of The Babe.

Pride of the Yankees was a quality movie - not one of my personal favorites, but very well regarded by many, and not just for the speech at the end.

The only point of creating a list like this to generate debate. If you post it, they will argue. Don't post a list of your top 15 if you don't want to debate it.

Probably the biggest inaccuracy about Moneyball was the whole sub-plot regarding Hatteberg not getting any playing time early in the season, which couldn't be more far from the truth. Infact, Hatteberg was playing every game from the very beginning of the season (started off as DH). But it did make the movie more entertaining having the GM and manager duke it out, so whatever, it's Hollywood.

The only point of creating a list like this to generate debate. If you post it, they will argue. Don't post a list of your top 15 if you don't want to debate it.

 

I think it's quite reasonable, and should be expected, that whenever someone lists their own "Top However Many" on a discussion board, that discussion will be had about what others feel should or should not be on that list. And that doesn't change if it's listed in the form of a poll about a particular favorite. No reason to get upset about what is (The?) Natural and expected.

 

I don't really care actually, just trying to redirect discussion to movies on the list.

I thought it was pretty funny they skipped over the whole part of the pitching being excellent that year. Also Pena sucked and wasnt an all star. It was for entertainment purposes all the way, but the point still came across

The Art Howe hating Billy Beane angle was completely made up too and the real Art Howe was 'livid' over how he was portrayed (http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2011/09/28/art-howe-livid-over-his-portrayal-in-moneyball/).

Didn't know that. Most of the movie was made up. Even Peter Brand is a fictional character made up because the real analyst guy (Paul DePodesta) was not happy with their representation of him and didn't allow them to use his name.

It also erked me the way they exclusively talked about OBP, but just have to accept that they were trying to appeal to a larger audience.

It's like if the Blue Jays made the playoffs this year and and a movie was made about the season, but Bautista, EE, Reyes and Dickey weren't included. Instead, the movie centres around AA's craftiness in building his bullpen, which ultimately carries the team. AA and his scouts are ninja-geniuses for identifying relievers under-appreciated by their teams and acquiring them. And Eric Kratz is the offensive sparkplug that turned around the franchise's fortunes.

I love pretty much all baseball movies. Including the majority of the ones on this list. I would 61 was gem. I didn't watch with much expectations but loved it.
