I agree, obviously don't have to decide today. I think he could play centre better than Cabrera did today. The key part of a sub is good defense and maybe some speed.

I have liked what I've seen so far. Some great ABs, and I find him smooth in the infield.

he plays all 3 outfield positions, 2nd, 3rd and SS... he's a perfect option for the bench but it would mean that they have to send Goins down or trade Izturis and I dont think AA is willing to eat that plate of crow yet. at least Izturis has been able to hit so far.

it should be an easy choice, but then it is AA we are talking about. sigh

Likely he will slide over to 2nd base if Goins continues to be the blackhole on offence that many here predicted. Goins has 2 walks in 135 MLB PA.... that's brutal especially considering lack of average and power. If he can't hit as well as the average NL pitcher then he can't continue to play regardless of how good his glove is.

Agree on all counts

Had been holding out slight hope of an acceptable OBP from Goins, but no luck and we're obviously not surprised

Thus far Diaz looks like the much better option. Both Goins and Sierra should be sent down.

AA needs to find a pair.

Sierra must be shaking a bit too ! Diaz does have more use's super utility and stealing bases!

Oh my lord Sierra has been terrible

Diaz' numbers in the minors are just as bad as Goins'. I'd probably prefer Goins but I'd rather have Kawasaki over both of them.

Regardless, all three of them are very bad options so it's more of a "pick your poison" situation.

Clearly none of the 3 should be starting options, they are no more than subs and at this point its not even known if they are adequate for subs. All three defensively should be good at 2b its all about who is the least inadequate with the bat. Which is probably Kawasaki at this point. Atleast he is a vet who can take walks, bunt, and put the ball in play.

It would be great if we signed Drew to a 1 yr 10 mil deal in June after the draft pick comp is off. It would only happen if we are still in the hunt of course but its looking like NYY is as predicted, old with spotty SP, Baltimore spotty SP, and Boston struggling to replace the run production they've lost to FA/Injuries. The Blue Jays have been as advertised as well with inconsistent starting pitching. It remains to be seen which team starts clicking and puts on a run and pulls away from the pack. That will likely be Tampa but who knows could be any of the 5. If it is the Jays they should investment the money in Drew come June. The wait and see approach doesn't really make sense considering the state the team is in and how desperate AA should be to win but whatever, it is what it is, likely easier to convince Rogers of the investment if interest is up.

At least Kawaski has proven that he can be a decent stopgap at the big league level. Why he is down and two unproven guys who both look like inferior hitters are up is beyond me. Even if they wanted to go all D, Kawaski isn't a terrible defender either. Call up Kawaski, Gose, and Johnson. Send Down Goins, Thole and Sierra. We upgrade the D significantly by swapping Gose for Sierra, Kawaski is a better option that Goins and Johnson gives us a power bat off the bench and rids us of what should be our third catching option.

Diaz, Kawasaki, Izturis line until Reyes gets back would be better. Goins is only useful if the jays are ahead late. he offers little else unless someone can teach him to get on base.

I like the idea of Gose being a Defensive replacement late and pinch runner, but I dont want to see him getting ABs. he's as bad as Goins.

Agreed

Pretty much a guess who would be the better option with the bat . I would probably send Goins down since he has options . Team just can't afford to have DL stints from the main 7 position players .

I still would love to pry Sean Rodriguez out of Tampa as I believe he would do fine if give a permanent job at his best position .

I can't disagree Vik , Was Kratz so terrible catching Dickey ? Goins needs to be in AAA as I don't see him learning to hit in the majors . Bench is going to be weak no matter what thou.

Thing about Diaz is he has a better chance to get OB (he's always been an OBP guy in the minors), I think that's rather important in the 9th spot with the top of the order coming up. The downside is he's not going to hit for extra bases.

Agreed ! That with the eight man pen looming and a three man bench sierra is the weakest link, Goodbye!

6 man rotation 8 man bullpen a backup catcher and an infielder outfielder sub to go with a catcher on the bench That's where we're going.
