I mean there is no way that AA would be that stupid and have the funds to sign Drew but decide not to... right?

Please assure me that this true.

There's a number of teams who could really use him, and all of them seem to want nothing to do with him. Either Boras is asking for an insane amount or there's something else making teams stay away (medicals perhaps). It'll be interesting to see if he has a deal and signs in the next day or two, or if he really is prepared to sit out 1/2 the season.

Let's not kid ourselves into thinking that Drew is THE answer to saving this season. He hasn't exactly been durable either and is just as injury prone as Reyes. Last year he played in 124 games, by far the most games he's played in since 2010. Now with that said, he's a massive upgrade over the current options of Goins/Izturis/Kawa/Diaz.

I've given up trying to wrap my head around how this team has operated since the big moves of 2013, whether it's complete ignorance on the part of the FO as to the roster deficiencies or some other unknown reason why we did nothing to improve. As a long time Jays supporter it's frustrating, to say the least.

We have the funds. Rogers approved 14mil for Santana 3 weeks ago.

Yep. Which makes it all the more ridiculous

Drew is probably a bigger upgrade over Goins or Izturis than Santana would have been over McGowan or Redmond. And would cost LESS.

It is crazy. It is all just probability that you learn in high school... not even college probability. The f***ing accountants and the monopoly whiz should understand this stuff.

Drew and Reyes combined will play 200 games. I mean there is always a chance both fall apart and they play 30 games combined... or they are both amazingly healthy and play 320... neither of those scenarios are that likely.

Reyes/Izturus/Goins/Diaz infield - expectation 220 of the 320 games will be covered by crap.

Reyes/Drew/Izturus/Goins infield - expectation 120 of the 320 games will be covered by crap.

Sign Drew -- unless the medicals are horrible we expect 100 more games of non-crap...

It's just gambling but you might as well play the odds properly.

Rogers' wallet is just a convenient scapegoat for AA and Beeston's incompetence.

I have no clue if it is Rogers Wallet... or Beeston and AAs incompetence.

These guys don't understand what an "average is".

How many games will Jose Reyes play?? 115 or so. That's what he averages. How many games will Drew play?? About the same. What will Ryan Goins hit. .240 .290 .310 or so... just take his minor league rates and apply a sensible multiplier.

How will Mr. X hit at age 33?? Take his age 27 stats and use an aging curve. It was all figured out in the 80s... applied in the 90s... but Jays still operate in the 70s.

This is why I have no concern about WAR or the real advanced stats, or the Kratz situation right now. It's all great stuff for an organization that say is operating at a 2008 level in stats analysis... by all means... lets get them into 2014.

But when you have an organization that is still using 1976 methods... Get them atleast into the 80s. That's the first step.

Boras just walked into the Jays office this morning and handed Beest a note "James Paxton says your shortstop situation is laughable you stupid f***" and then walked out.

The reports on what Boras has been seeking are so all over the place, who knows what to believe at this point? It's even been suggested that the Mets have a deal ready the second the draft gets past the first round and for at least 5 years beyond 2014.

The popular rumor was that he'd do a 4-year deal with the Jays and with the money back loaded to years 3 and 4 but only with an opt out clause that could be exercised at the end of this season. That would mean if he was injured or terrible, we'd be stuck with him and if he had a big year, he'd opt out and for big money, with no compensation.

I would sign Drew for 4/36. Trade Reyes in the offseason. We should have signed Infante, but its too late for that now.

This is my favorite post in my short time on these boards. You've made my morning.

He wouldn't. He walked away from 14 million for this year. Think more 4/50. Now ask why he's still available.

Nobody is giving Drew 4/50. Omar Infante got 4/32, and he is pretty comparable to Drew in terms of value.

Agreed, his agent is delusional. He should have accepted the qualifying offer and Boston is probably happy he didn't. At this point he should accept a 2/20 deal, atleast its more total $ than 1/14.

I would take him for 2/26

I don't get why people think Rogers calls AA and tells him whether or not money is available and to go after players. It's the complete reverse.

AA will have a number and a player in mind, talk the players agent, the agent will laugh and tell AA his valuation is less than half of what the market value for the player is, can f*** off, and the money discussion with ownership never even happens.

We don't even know that Drew is available for a reasonable price.

He certainly SHOULD be at this point

Would anybody really be that surprised if Boras got him 40 million or something in the next couple of weeks?

Nope. Not in the least.
