Off the top of my head:

1.) Tanaka

2.) Abreu

3.) Springer

Stroman started late so I wouldn't include him in that group. I'd even put Bogaerts and Solarte ahead of him now. But give it another few weeks of quality starts and he'll be competing for 3rd.

I forgot about Abreu. It is a deep crop this year.

Someone brought up a Stroman/Guzman comparison the other day. Guzman finished second off of terrible minor league numbers (ie worse then Sanchez this year) and a late start.

Edwin's homerun calmed me. Hopefully he'll go off against the Reds and show them that he shouldn't have been discarded.

Isn't Tanaka eligible for rookie of the year?

If so it's him or Abreu unless something crazy happens

I am the opposite of calm. At our current pace we will be in 3rd place by end of June.

It can't last

The team us not as bad as it looks right now

However they are also not as good as they looked in May

The truth, as usual, lies somewhere in between

On the way to 82 wins there was going to be ups and downs... times when it looked like 95 wins were a real possibility... times when it looked like a top 5 pick was a possibility.

I guess that is what is so dissapointing about this little collapse. It's like we were all waiting for a quick descent into reality... we knew it was coming... all I wanted was to believe I was wrong for another few weeks... but why did it have to come so fast and so sudden??

I guess because it always does. This franchise crushes you fast. It's the blue jays way.

I honestly believe it ended when Reyes threw the ball away. The world is much more non-linear then we believe wtih fat tails and weird psychological effects. The stock market goes up and up sometimes just because people believe. When Reyes threw the ball away it reminded the Jays who they were, who we are.

The Yankeees Win!!!! The YYAAAAANKEEES WIN!

The world is as it should be. Keep calm.

I hate being a downer...

But there are so many problems that were hidden by the win streak. I'm not some crazy who believes that every little losing streak means the end.

I think this is a mediocre team and it just becomes obvious during a streak like this.

Take the fact that we are banged up. This is year 5 of the AA era. In year 4/5 of the Ricciardi era Hill and young Lind were essentially ready when needed.

Wow. we could really use those types of minor league players to fill in for a banged up Lawrie and old Lind. We have nothing in the minors in terms of position players and are relying on the Franciscos and Tollesons of the world instead of young players. AA should of produced a position player by now.

You look at that lineup... a couple little slumps and dings and it's a bunch of 30 somethings with nothing coming up behind them. Depressing.

Very true. This team has no depth and over the course of a 162 game season its bound to hurt us

You are so full of crap.

I am curious, if not the Jays, tell me which teams impress you this year and are locks to make the playoffs. Tell me about the great depth of those teams. I seem to remember people laughing about who the Yankees were starting earlier this year, and Detroit was home free and going to run away with their division.

Tell me about how Atlanta ( BJ Upton has upside right ? ), Milwaukie ( man they were good last year ), and KC ( an offence that can't be stopped ) are so damn good the Jays just don't match up against any of them. I think the Jays are stronger then all these teams, but I wouldn't write any of them off.

It seems this thread has taken a turn to the Vent/Rage thread...can you please take this to its rightful place?! Slumps happen, the Giants have been worse than us lately, we're 8-9 in June, stay calm.

I just put a calm post in the vent/rage to try to even it out...I will have to bring it back here I guess.

On the way to 82 wins

I'll remember you posted this on June 20 when they were 8 games above .500, and this time you didn't try to weasel out of it based on math.

Put that on the list of reasons why I've had it with this site. I'll be back later this year when the Jays real fate is clear ( contrary to popular belief,

it's not ), and take no prisoners if by some small miracle ( according to this forum ) that we make the playoffs.

And if they fail. you get what you wanted and I have no problem with it.

????????????

CPH. First off... what the heck?? Don't leave. I don't think I've ever insulted you (OK, maybe I have, but I don't try to keep grudges for long) or argued to much with you. Not sure why you are in a huff.

And I've never, ever said I want the Jays to fail.

My prediction is that it is a .500 team. 82 wins or so. It could be 85. Could be 79. I don't know for sure.

What I want is atleast 95. Hell 105. Nothing would make me happier.

How will we get our history lessons on the 92-93 teams? Come on bro....

In seriousness the board needs diversity, you shouldn't leave. I think you take it too personal when people don't believe in the Jays like you do. I think only a small minority are negative Nancys, almost rooting for the Jays to fail

Oakland really impresses me. They collect a tonne of underrated players and lose on some, win on some, but looks like they have a nice critical mass right now. I like Boston still. I think they have almost as good a chance as the Jays at the playoffs. No guarantees for anyone.

If the Jays make the playoffs I'll remember you stuck by them. You have my word on that. We'll make a list of who is right and wrong. If the Jays make the playoffs you will get your due as one who stood by them in tough times.

I went to bed and calmly found out about this in the morning.

All hail JSFIP! All hail CPH!

Nobody has been able to keep calm at all lately. Injuries. Losing streaks. Comebacks. Reyes throws it into the dirt! It's over. Reyes throws it into the dirt! It's over again.

Smedley apparently banned and reposting under new accounts and banned again.

CPH -- who believe it or not, may in the end be the one with his head on straight... has apparently left us and isn't checking in again until late August.

Olerud363 ranting incoherently again.

Stroman who is so short that no one shorter has ever done anything is doing OK... so I think he is now the greatest short pitcher ever (atleast when compared to 5'3" guys instead of his peer group (5'8 to 5'11) )

Edwin suffers season ending concussion but plays anyway... Edwin I hope your head is on straight.

If you you are having trouble keeping calm during all this...

Watch the shitballers converge. Which one is Dickey?? Which one is Buerhle?? Which one has the pitbull?? I think the season depends on the shitballer convergence point. If they converge at a decent point say 15-10 3.5 then things might be OK... we will see

keep calm

Nothing to worry about. We are trying to acquire the san diego padres 3rd baseman Chase Headley who is hitting .199 with 23 RBI's and has a $10.525 mil contract this year. Juan Francisco's productivity is also on the decline (.176 Ave over the last 28 games). Why expect anything different. It all starts from the top and its no different in our farm system - we sit All-Stars and watch others, who management wants to progress, struggle. This is the Blue Jays. How was Ryan Goins at second base for us? Why is Kalfus sitting in Vancouver? This is the Blue Jays. We have so much talent, but the decision makers are not managing it well. The good news is, we are still in first and other teams are still struggling.

You went Full Retard about "why is Kalfus sitting in Vancouver?" Who gives a f***!

Anybody still calm? Losing 3 of 4 at home vs the Sox is terrible. This team sucks balls right now

I am!!!

Losing 3/4 to the sox is disappointing. Facing all those lefties, not having Bautista, Lawrie and trying to hit with a bottom of the line up like Gibbons had to put out this weekend, was almost a foregone conclusion.

AA will get this club some help, and I said it in the off season. This is a good team and they will be fighting for a play off spot come September.

The team has been getting some breaks lately with the other teams in the division losing.

And slowly, the Red Sox are creeping back into contention...

So short term keeping your division lead isn't very meaningful. Winning is.

Note how little has changed since May 24th. Yet cynicism about the Jays dominates this site. The lesson I guess is treading

water will always be perceived as bad on here, and the grass is always supposedly greener for other teams. Go Rays ???

CPH

I am so glad you are back. I thought you were leaving until August??

The boys played good today. If in the end you are right then I will be happy with that... Not sure I believe but glad you do and hoping you get the opportunity to say "I told you so".

Plus the sox lost. It was a good day

Watching yesterdays game I saw a babe wearing a "Calm down and play ball" shirt.

We all know Sietzer and Lott have been dropping "calm down" references... my question is this....

Who is Olerud363? A bipolar guy with a fast computer.

Who is Smedley? A banned guy with multiple accounts who likes cocaine and hoes.

Who is JSFIP?? This is the million dollar question. A mystery man, rarely seen who has started a movement. Possibly a member of the Jays organization as there is heavy evidence that "calm down" is a theme that is taking hold in the clubhouse and in the merchandise department.

Keep calm. Play ball!
