Well deserved for Cabrera. If he stays healthy, he could easily reach 700-800 doubles(and challenge Speaker, Rose, Musial and Cobb's doubles mark) and 600+ HR by the end of his career, and a reasonable shot at Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth's RBI marks.

 

Now if Detroit can get a title before Illitch passes and that contract threatens to be an albatross because of the reduction in payroll that will occur when Illitch dies and the team is sold..

There's really only 2 now that Gardner was extended. Rasmus and Aoki. And the best part is, most teams will overlook Aoki because he doesn't have the sexy stats, but he's a guy who does everything well with no glaring weaknesses.

Seems like these types of contracts are the norm to lock up the game's elites these days. If you want him, you have to pay him. Plain and simple.

But for some reason, I think MIggy might come close to breaking even on value. I think this guy is gonna hit for the rest of his MLB career. He's just that type of breed.

He'll definitely regress later on, but I think he'll still be a very good player. They just better hope he doesn't sustain a terrible injury or develop drug and weight problems again.
