fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 @jonmorosi Tigers, Miguel Cabrera close to an extension, source confirms @JonHeymanCBS report. The AAV of new years expected to be around $30MM. @jonmorosi New deal for Tigers and Cabrera, if completed, will go through at least 2021 and possibly longer than that.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Lawrie and Rasmus extensions....ps
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Well deserved for Cabrera. If he stays healthy, he could easily reach 700-800 doubles(and challenge Speaker, Rose, Musial and Cobb's doubles mark) and 600+ HR by the end of his career, and a reasonable shot at Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth's RBI marks. Now if Detroit can get a title before Illitch passes and that contract threatens to be an albatross because of the reduction in payroll that will occur when Illitch dies and the team is sold..
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Lawrie and Rasmus extensions....ps i wouldn't touch Rasmus his strikeouts are alarming and he can't hit lefties
flafson Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Where do they get all that money from? Their payroll is probably higher than the city of Detroit itself as it's falling apart economically.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 i wouldn't touch Rasmus his strikeouts are alarming and he can't hit lefties Can you name me just one CF with some value in the next free agency?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I mean I get it, but it's a little early I think since he's still under contract next two years. Plus still needs to prove himself a bit LOL. J/k
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Can you name me just one CF with some value in the next free agency? There's really only 2 now that Gardner was extended. Rasmus and Aoki. And the best part is, most teams will overlook Aoki because he doesn't have the sexy stats, but he's a guy who does everything well with no glaring weaknesses.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Detroit is obviously worried about contract inflation to do this deal now. And they still had the Scherzer-declined trucks full o' cash just sitting there so...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 jcrasnick Miguel Cabrera's new deal with #tigers will be for 10 years and just under $300M, says a baseball source.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 jcrasnick Miguel Cabrera's new deal with #tigers will be for 10 years and just under $300M, says a baseball source. Sheeeit, well, he's one of only 3 guys in baseball I give that kind of money to.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Sheeeit, well, he's one of only 3 guys in baseball I give that kind of money to. 10 years deal to an 31 years old fat man?
flafson Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Ilitch family The family was presented the key to the City of Detroit by Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick on February 14, 2008.[17] They are the fifth recipients of this award in the history of the city, the others being actor James Earl Jones, neurosurgeon Benjamin Carson, former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein[18] and Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis.[19] And people wonder why Detroit is in ruins...

SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I find it very difficult to believe this ends up having surplus value. It definitely won't lol
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Can you name me just one CF with some value in the next free agency? agreed but there's always the trade route we could have had bloody gentry for santos
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Miguel Cabrera extension is 8 years and roughly $248 million, source confirms. Works out to AAV ~ $31MM during the extension years (2016-2023) lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 That's not as bad as 10 years. jonmorosi 2m Miguel Cabrera's total guarantee is therefore 10 years and ~$292 million. This is through 2023.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I find it very difficult to believe this ends up having surplus value. Believe it or not, that's not the be all end all in baseball.
Caper Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 If I was the Tigers right now I would be on the phone with AA, looking to trade Max Scherzer for Stroman and Sanchez... and maybe a couple of prospects in low A.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Contracts in general are just getting ridiculous in this sport. This contract is going to look ugly in ten years. Imagine how much Trout is going to demand now....
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Iilitch just DGAF. He's old and rich. He'll do whatever the f*** he wants. ALPHA
Caper Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Winning a World Series >> making sure assets don't walk via free agency. They'd be crazy to trade Scherzer. To expensive. They have starting pitching even without Scherzer. They could get young prospects, help their bullpen and a couple of low A prospects for long term.... And then they would have a tonne of extra money to spend on other needs.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Fister died today, lol. I guess they knew when to trade him. Maybe they said if you don't let him do medical, we will give him for cheap.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Fits perfectly with trading Doug Fister for Alex Gonzalez, a non top 100 pitching prospect, and a reliever! I never understood that trade.... The Nationals robbed the Tigers at gunpoint. What would our equivalent be? Sierra/Loup/Tirado+?
8D Verified Member Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Cashing in. Great for Miggy. Seems like these types of contracts are the norm to lock up the game's elites these days. If you want him, you have to pay him. Plain and simple. But for some reason, I think MIggy might come close to breaking even on value. I think this guy is gonna hit for the rest of his MLB career. He's just that type of breed. He'll definitely regress later on, but I think he'll still be a very good player. They just better hope he doesn't sustain a terrible injury or develop drug and weight problems again.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Jesus christ. I wonder what this does to Trout's $$$ demands
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Are you sure? Fister is broken Hey for that small price I'll take my chances with a lat strain
