because drew doesn't want to have to face the qualifying offer next year and if he makes it to the first day of the season a team can't offer him the qualifying offer and receive a pick if he declines. The Jays have protected picks, so they may not be as concerned about waiting till june till after the draft to avoid losing a pick as it's a 2nd rounder.

I think they go offspeed here to Jose on the first pitch, they know he's always looking to pull and can get a little ahead of himself. Hopefull Jose realizes this and is waiting to crush a "get me over" curve or s***** changeup.

yup, nothing but curves and Jose doesn't even flinch... though give credit to Betances, those curves were pretty much pinpoint on the outside corner and McCann framed them perfectly

I'm positive it's just the 1st day of the season. It would be less than a year and he would be ineligible for the QO. However if a team signs him before the draft in June they lose a pick. After the draft they don't lose a pick.
