JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 To go with the pitcher thread, thought I'd try this one too. For me it was Manny Lee and JP Arencibia for sure. Honorable mention to Alex Rios.
Convo Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Emilio Bonifacio, honourable mention to Arencibia, Russ Adams, Vernon Wells (from 2007 onward)

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Rickey Henderson HATED to have to cheer for him. It drove me crazy. But he was so good...
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Rickey Henderson HATED to have to cheer for him. It drove me crazy. But he was so good... Rickey was dogshit with the Jays...except his presence made everybody else better. Alomar batting 6th. A HOF player batting 6th AND that was the right spot for him in that lineup...those were the days.

Just couldn't accept he was suddenly on the Jays.
KSaw Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Canseco and Gruber. The royal family of douches. Arencibia doesn't even come close to those clowns.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 JPA I don't hate as much because he proved me right. Carlos Garcia for sure. I was just coming back around to following the Jays again (after going full Expos) and the Jays put out this piece of s*** (and traded several top prospects for him and Merced). Joe Carter is on my list too...still hate that f***er

Just couldn't accept he was suddenly on the Jays. he didn't display a lot of power, but he did post a .356 OPB and stole 22 bases in 44 games. Hard to say that was terrible. He added a dimension of speed that helped everyone on the team.
Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Arencibia, Russ Adams, and to a lesser extent Bautista. I hated Adams the player but didn't mind him as a person. I hate Bautista as a person but like him as a player. I hate JP as a person and a player, he is just the worst.
crmr Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Overbay. JPA is close. I've been waiting for this thread. Have to go with Rios and JPA. Probably Rios for me
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I wish I could draw on my childhood memories and make a more origninal pick but I don't think anyone in the history of the team was more loathsome than JPA in 2013. He had the trifecta of mediocrity, arrogance and way too much playing time and all that on the heels of the team's one time catcher of the future and (at the time) top prospect being moved in a gross overpay.

Yep it's the perfect storm for player hate. He's easily my #2. But I just LOATHED Rickey so much, you younger guys didn't watch him play so it's hard to understand maybe.
Jays Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I'm going with JPA for sure, even though he gets a ton of bonus points for the hours of laughter he's provided me with.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 The only modern analogy to Rickey Henderson might be if someone like Ryan Braun was acquired mid season after raking all year for a division rival and being an ******* and showing off and then he came here and we had to cheer for him to help the team but hated him and he was only mediocre. Picture that X10 and it would be like watching Rickey in a Jays uniform in 1993.

I was gonna say Rickey Henderson too, but at least he had a reason for being an arrogant prick.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 http://fierydragon.com/dragonsbreath/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Rickey-Henderson.gif f*** f*** f*** even the pictures of him still aggravate me

Orlando Merced, Melky Cabrerra. Juan Guzman, Josh Johnson. Some differences. Clemens delivered, Dickey didn't. But very similiar show. And why wouldn't it be it was brought to you by the same executive producer, Mr. Paul Beeston. Joe Carter. I hate that guy more than anything ever except for Beeston.

I really hated both Rickey and Canseco from those A's teams but I didn't hate Rickey as a Jay. I thought it was weird and stupidly I would have preffered the Jays roll with Willie Canate but having that crazy lineup and being basically the Yankees of that era was pretty awesome.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I was gonna say Rickey Henderson too, but at least he had a reason for being an arrogant prick. Fabulous point. He was so f'n good in Oakland and NY. Multiple 10 WAR seasons. Career OBP .401 (f*** me...) 106 WAR for career And, of course, those 1406 career stolen bases
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I think A-Rod would be a better example than Braun. Henderson was THAT much of a douche canoe. Personal preference and I thought of saying ARod here But somehow I hate Braun more than Rodriguez
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I think A-Rod would be a better example than Braun. Henderson was THAT much of a douche canoe. The thing with Rickey though it that he wasn't really a bad guy just full of himself and oddly delusional. He was kind of like A-Rod but a lot more good natured. A-Rod is the kind of guy that even Yankees fans hate but Henderson was awesome if he was on your team. Maybe a better comparison would be someone from another sport. Ovechkin?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 "I don't care about them ... It's Rickey time." — Henderson, after being traded to New York, on what he thought about Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle. "Kevin, this is Rickey, calling on behalf of Rickey. Rickey wants to play baseball." — Rickey, calling San Diego GM Kevin Towers about a job

Picture that X10 and it would be like watching Rickey in a Jays uniform in 1993. I will disagree on this. Ricky Henderson is everything good about baseball. I don't know about the man, but walks, power, great baserunning. I will say this Ricky walked leading off the 9th in game 6. That was the game right there. I've argued with Spanky about the Carter homerun... and I probably didn't explain myself that well. The homerun was thrilling. I agree. But the moment of victory was the Henderson walk. I was watching that night with my knuckle head hockey goon friends who don't know diddly about sabremetrics. As Henderson walked they appreciated his at bat, and proclaimed the game over.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 does it say something about me that Rickey, Bonds and Braun are among my favourite players of all time?
