JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 If he actually said to the Jays that he was going to make a decision by 5PM then recanted, the Jays should cancel their offer to him. Teach that greedy bastard a lesson.

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Blame the media reports that you guys lap up as factual. Don't blame the player. I really couldn't care less if they sign him or not. We have many other options with our present players right now. Romero sure looked good the other day and so did Drabek and Hutch.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Romero sure looked good the other day Jesus.

Romero sure looked good the other day and so did Drabek and Hutch. There are a total of about 1450 innings in a year, out of those, you need about 1000 innings from your starters. Right now our starters are sure to give us about 400-500 innings. Are you really that certain that our "depth" can cover the remaining 500-600 innings? I'd feel much better if our depth only had to cover 300-400 innings.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 If they sign him, some will complain that it's bad value. If they don't, some will complain that they should've. LOL. Just keep the prospects, draft picks and start to blow it up mid season and into the off season.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Is there a stream for todays game?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Jesus. kasmir, jimenez, lackey etc. can turn it around but Ricky can't? If Ricky had lost velocity or good movement on his pitches, writing him off would be one thing, but he still has those things. The stuff is there, but can he start commanding his stuff better? I guess he has no shot..lol.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Is there a stream for todays game? There's usually a link with the game thread.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 The article is interesting. Reyes, Edwin and Bautista seems to be good friends with Santana and it also pictures Lind as a smart "big picture" guy.

Reyes, Edwin and Bautista seems to be good friends with Santana and it also pictures Lind as a smart "big picture" guy. The comment I sort of liked the most was from Lind regarding Hutchison and Stroman being given more development time. It wasn't all good though as he said he wanted to see Romero and Hutchison as the 4 and 5, lol. As far as Reyes, EE and Bautista being friends with Santana and wanting the team to sign him, well, it should work both ways, shouldn't it? I mean, if Santana wants to play with his friends on the Blue Jays, all he has to do is accept the offer the Jays have reportedly made to him. The 2 offers are reportedly quite similar, one guarantees him 14M, the other one 13M + incentives. The Jays are actually offering more because they stand to lose a 2nd round draft pick while the Orioles only lose a 3rd rounder.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Adam Lind should be making roster decisions! Promote him! I would agree if he didn't say he would love to see Ricky Romero in the rotation.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Wow. Lind knows more about restricting innings on young starters than AA does. I don't know if that's impressive or sad.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I would agree if he didn't say he would love to see Ricky Romero in the rotation. Pffft. That's just lip service to a friend. He was probably holding back chuckles under his man beard as he said that.
0ctobyte Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Adam Lind: "I looked up Aaron Sanchez the other day." I'm just imagining Adam Lind going on Fangraphs and checking out Sanchez' stats.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 I would agree if he didn't say he would love to see Ricky Romero in the rotation. I would also love to see Romero in the rotation. If he's in the rotation that means his demons are gone and he's back to himself. Obviously that won't happen until he shows he can dominate in AAA for some time.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I like your sense of humor. Someone didn't watch the game...
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Pffft. That's just lip service to a friend. He was probably holding back chuckles under his man beard as he said that. Hasn't Lind thrown Romero under the bus with comments to the media in the past? I may be wrong. Pretty sure he has though.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 Says Santana will decide between Blue Jays and O's tomorrow the latest.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 It's all nonsense. If Santana wants to play with Bautista, Reyes and EE, he can simply accept the offer the Jays have reportedly made to him. It's not a bad offer at all, in fact, the Jays are offering more than they should. I wouldn't be surprised if, after reading their players comments, the Jays up their offer because they're so pr-conscious and the casuals will probably throw a tantrum if they don't get this guy, especially if it's over a million or 2.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 His ERA against the AL East is horrible, i honestly don't see why he narrowed his options down to 2 AL East clubs. Maybe he wants to show that if he can get good results in the AL East, he can do it everywhere.

AA has said neither pitcher will be on an innings count, although Hutch probably should be. Stroman last year apparently had the equivalent of around 170ish so should be fine. Regarding Romero, if he can throw strikes he should absolutely be in the rotation - but he has to throw strikes.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Hasn't Lind thrown Romero under the bus with comments to the media in the past? I may be wrong. Pretty sure he has though. There seems to be a big effort from the players to really support Romero this spring. Hopefully it works.

Agreed. Stroman threw 115 or so innings in 2012 between college and minors. In 2013 he had 123 IP between AA and AFL + whatever # of innings he threw in extended ST as he served his suspension. He should be good to throw 160 innings. Hutchison should be on a limit no doubt. I'd like to see both these guys be sent to AAA even if it meant Happ and Rogers as 4 and 5. If they get Santana, then Happ at #5 is fine, although I'd love it if they traded him.

I do NOT want to see both Happ AND Rogers in the rotation to start the year! I'd rather see neither.

However, I want to see the Jays give their prospects AAA time, especially a guy like Hutchison who's coming off TJS and only threw 55 or so innings in 2013. Maybe Redmond can pitch like he did last year or McGowan/Romero could come out of nowhere and grab a spot, but I want guys like Hutchison, Stroman and Nolin to have some AAA time before they're called up.
