glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I'm not even a Santana fan, but on a one year deal, there is no excuse not to sign him. He instantly improves the rotation and allows Stroman (and possibly Hutchison) to start the year in AAA. Make it happen.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I think, in the last year, he got a fact wrong on something, can't remember what, but it wasn't about FA's. If he reports Santana has signed, I will book it. Literally. You will "book it", literally? Like, if he reports Santana has signed, you will throw a book at it? Or write a book about it? Or write it down inside of an already-written book? Or arrest it?
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 That's true glory, and if we keep the Hutchinsons and Stromans in the minors until June, we get another year out of them before FA. So, it's an even better idea with that in mind.
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Boo! Cop out. Guy had a shoulder injury which he never really fixed ... came back and had reduced velo. Then the Jays absent-mindedly dealt for him and he (surprise!) sucked eggs with continued reduced velo and he 2 DL stints, one for the upper arm and one for the lower, and then eventually got bone spurs removed from his elbow (TJ'd in 2007). Oh, and he supposedly pitched through knee tendinitis all year, as well. The "if fully healthy" caveat is like saying "if JPA was good ..." There's a great deal of data there that states the guy is on the verge of a pitching career death spiral ... Which is why I added that caveat in the first place; hard to feel good about a prediction when you're not sure which Josh Johnson is going to show up this year. It's like trying to guess how fast Usain Bolt is going to run the 100m after recovering from breaking his leg a month ago.

Just sayin'
xposbrad Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 JJ offered way more upside than Santana. Both pitchers have risk, but knowing that JJ had his problem fixed and didn't cost a draft pick we should have just kept him. I still am not understanding why we didn't QO him. If the money is there, then I can't figure out the jays FO.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Anyways. I don't have twitter. Any updates on Santana? Nothing credible beyond what's been posted here. Feels like deal will get done today. Sounds like Jays might go 14M, Orioles less guaranteed plus incentives. And maybe Rockies in mix. That's what I'm seeing.

I think Alex envisioned an offseason where Rogers would allow him the $$$ to sign Ubaldo and Santana, or maybe get Tanaka (who knows) and he didn't think JJ would fit in there. But in hindsight, I am 99% sure he figures he made a mistake.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Anthopoulos after Santana signs with the Orioles for 12M/1Y: "I mean, as you guys know, I can't comment directly on other team's players, but I can tell you that we definitely explored all our options and left no page unturned, and at the end of the day, we think it's a great deal for the Orioles, you know, I think Dan Duquette is a great GM, they got a good thing going on down in Maryland, but right now, for our club, the years just didn't make sense. You know, we feel like we have a really good thing here and it gives us a chance to weigh all our options, basically ride out the spring and see what we have, you know, in house, and as always, the market always heats up a bit near the end of the spring, what with the out-of-options guys, guys getting a better sense of where their teams are, you start to see a few more players hit the market, and we can definitely look into it at that point, but we feel really good about our team, you know, I think last year with all the injuries and the weight of all the pressure might have got to the guys, we still feel we have all the pieces and tools for a team that can contend in this division, we just gotta ride it out and see what we have at the end of the spring, but I feel good about this club."
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 You don't win friends with book humour, Harry Potter. But you do win friends when you tell a site full of guys that you love to suck dick, don't you, Tila Tequila?

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Injury risk? Because he pitched only 140 innings back in 2009? http://i.imgur.com/RN70TUF.gif

Hey, you should toss out more definitions of words on your posts. Your pretend friends in your mom's basement love the hell out of that.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Uh, that should read "Your pretend friends in your mom's basement would literally love the hell out of that. I have boobies." Why, when you've posted it for me?

BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Super duper. So how will JJ do this season?
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Why do I get the feeling that bluejay girl is someone Zee or puppy captured and is holding in the basement saying "it rubs the lotion...."
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Uh, but did he mention that his breasts feel like bags of sand? He's on Wikipedia right now, studying up on the female body. In a few minutes he might go upstairs and ask his mom a few questions too, just to be sure.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Choices for Drew: Play 2B in the big leagues for millions of dollars, or play SS at home on your Playstation for nothing. Seriously, if someone was going to give Drew a one year deal to play short, I think they would have already. The draft pick cost makes signing someone for a single season pretty impossible for most non-competitive teams to stomach, and most competitive teams don't have SS holes that Drew can plug. Apparently Middlebrooks has looked terrible at 3B and Bogaerts has not looked so great at SS either and he would be better off at 3B instead of Middlebrooks. There's talk that playing SS for Boston may be back on the table for Drew.
