fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: Ervin Santana now seeking a one-year deal, and wants to sign as quickly as possible. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Sources add: Santana wants to sign with a strong offensive club. Both #BlueJays and #Orioles fit that description and have shown interest. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Santana unwilling to wait on 1-yr deal, even though he would be exempt from ’14 qualifying offer after Opening Day. Wants to be in camp now.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Get 'er done AA! This is what you've been waiting for.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 He wants an offensive club so he can cash in on those wins
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 1/14 for the QO amount would be nice, yeah.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 A 2-3 win (projected) pitcher on a one year deal would be excellent. It would also mean that AA's #despair tactics were extremely effective. Don't get your hopes up though.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 1/14 for the QO amount would be nice, yeah. You'd want to give up the draft pick for 1 year of this guy when there's probably 0 chance of him turning it down again at the end of the year? I'm not sure I would, even with. A 2 win season out of him.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Hard to complain about a 1 year deal. I don't particularly want him overall, but I'd easily take him over Happ.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Bronson Arroyo got 2/22, lmao @ Kevin Towers
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 You'd want to give up the draft pick for 1 year of this guy when there's probably 0 chance of him turning it down again at the end of the year? We have protected picks
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Not a huge fan of Santana. You do 1 year and 14 million absolutely though . Edit: Forgot about the pick. Maybe not "absolutely" but i would still take the chance. Always a chance we can QO him again and get a pick next year.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If AA passes this up, just fire the clown now.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Why give him the QO amount? I see no logic behind this. Maybe 9M for 1 year, remember, he costs a pick.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 But guys, Ricky Romero looked really good today...
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 We have protected picks Still give up a second rounder. It's not insignificant

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If AA pulls this off we'll have to invert the connotation of 'despair.'
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Still give up a second rounder. It's not insignificant If he has a good year, he'll turn down the QO again and we'll get a comp pick out of it. He's not going to accept the QO just because of his experience this offseason. Two good years in a row will warrant a longer-term deal. This is a no-brainer IMO.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Still give up a second rounder. It's not insignificant Yay! Another failed high school arm! Sorry just have no faith in this teams drafting and development abilities. I say get Santana and f*** the pick.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Apparently, his medicals are a big reason why he's still unsigned, but a 1-year deal mitigates the risk.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Still give up a second rounder. It's not insignificant It's also not a huge deal. You figure out the $ value of that pick, drop it into the calculus, and make an appropriate offer. But for some reason I feel like I'd rather try to get him to sign something like 3/27 or 2/22 before offering him the QO amount of 1/14. I think there's more value in trying to entice him into signing a still short term deal at a lower AAV by giving him that extra year or two. 2 wins in 2014 at $14M = $1M in surplus 3.5 wins in 2014+15 at $22M = $5.2625M in surplus 4.5 wins in 2014+15+16 at $27M = $9.17325M in surplus 5 wins in 2014+15+16+17 at $32M = $9.xxxxM in surplus You get the illustration.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 You guys and your f***ing despair The only thing in despair will be this message board when he signs elsewhere and Anthopolous will be slinking around in the background of the sports media world like a prowler trying to avoid the cops.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Happ out. Santana in. Hutch #5. Stroman to AAA. Could we have hope?
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 You guys and your f***ing despair The only thing in despair will be this message board when he signs elsewhere and Anthopolous will be slinking around in the background of the sports media world like a prowler trying to avoid the cops. It's because JA Crap is soooo beeeeeeg and strrrrrrong!
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Seriously though, Bean Stringfellow (rofl!!11!!1) and Ervin Santana have been despaired to within an inch of their lives by AA this offseason. Win.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Ervin is the new Josh. My offer to Ervin would be 3/25 and you shave your f***ing face before showing up to work.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Id rather let him sign somewhere else on a 1 year deal then trade a solid prospect at the deadline for him.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Still give up a second rounder. It's not insignificant I think with the position we are in right now, we're better off taking the risk losing the 2nd rounder for Santana
