FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 It will probably be some overplayed s*** like Imagine Dragons. They're probably deciding between "Radioactive" and some Drake song, only to cheap out at the last second and say, "f*** it, just play that Stadium Love song again."
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 They'll find an even worse song. Hell, AA might even write a shittier one himself, not like he's spending his time productively anyway. Can't wait to hear our new theme song, "Hey Girl (I'd Sign You, But Your Value Isn't Quite Right for Our Organization)." LOOOOOOOOOOOL, can't be worse than STADIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE They're probably deciding between "Radioactive" and some Drake song, only to cheap out at the last second and say, "f*** it, just play that Stadium Love song again." The Spring Training ads will all have Drake's "Just Hold on We're Going Home", I have no doubts about it

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Unless you're talking about Radioactive, go away. Well okay, their other stuff is not overplayed but it's still s***. No offense.

Way to take the cool out of dragons by putting "imagine" in front of it. They might as well be called Rainbow Unicorns.
fireballW Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Assuming no more significant transactions. In my opinion: -Bautista, Reyes, Lawrie and Encarncion have to be healthy all year. -Lawrie has to take a step forward. -Bautista, Reyes and Encarncion need to play as good as they did last year over the span of a full season -Rasmus has to show he is for real -Bullpen has to be above average. -Dickey has to pitch like he did in the 2nd half last year -Marky B needs to pitch like his career avg -Morrow needs to pitch close to how he did two years ago. -Stroman and Hutch need to be league average -Timely injuries to Red Sox, Yankees and Rays. Is this too much to ask for? If all those things happen we would end up close to 100 wins. Melky being the guy we thought he was when we signed him would help a lot. If he could be a competent defender in LF it would be lovely. Remember how sexy the top of our lineup looked with Reyes/Melky at the top hitting in front of our big guys? People are also underestimating the difference that Navarro will have. It's going to be about 100 extra balls put in play instead of strikeouts right there + better defense. I blame walker a lot how our pitchers always underperform as a whole, whereas with Arnsberg it was the opposite. But that could largely be due to JP being the catcher during basically that whole time.

SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Teams who look a lot worse then this jays team have come out of nowhere to surprise throughout the history of baseball. The jays definitely have a shot for enough to go right that this season could work out. I'm not truly giving up hope until the trade deadline. At that point we are either a surprise team or ready to be torn to the ground and rebuilt. The part that's frustrating is there were clear chances to make this team better this off season and increase our chances of being that surprise team but they have all inexplicably been passed on. Truly the only thing that makes sense is the 5.2 billion hockey deal stripped us of the ability to spend, there really is no other reasonable explanation. To make a long story short, health is a must and we have a shot....it's better then being the Astros!

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 If the team is healthy and we see some of the younger players perform better than expected (Goins and Hutchinson particularly) the team can contend. The problem is that we have a lot of injury prone players.
Caper Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I don't think it's that bad.... at least to get a wild card. 1. Morrow needs to stay healthy. 2. Dickey needs to be somewhere between last year and the year before that. 3. Buehrle needs to do what he did last year.... a non s***** April and May would be nice. 4. One of the following has to challenge for the final 2 spots.... And actually 2 of these guys will have to be huge.... with the bottom 3 having little chance to be huge. Drabek Hutch D-Mac Stroman Romero Redmond Rogers Happ 5. Hope to god Melky's problems stemmed from tumors and not lack of roids. 6. And of course good production from the regular hitters... and hopefully much better production from the new catcher.
Caper Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I am also hoping JPA is like the Rudy Gay of baseball.
Caper Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Also weighted balls..... weighted balls have to work really, really well.

Is this too much to ask for? I think healthy and typical elite level performances from Dickey, Bautista, and Reyes will let everything fall into place and allow us to compete. We can deal with things like Goins and a shaky 5th starter when the key players are in the lineup and doing their job.
Convo Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I wish people would stop saying Dickey needs to pitch like he did in the 2nd half of last year, because he wasn't that great... 3.72 ERA 18 HR allowed from July 1 to Sept 27. That's not good enough for your supposed ace. He'll need to be even better then that. Though I find it hard to believe he'll give up so many HR again.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 wouldn't it be a shame for the Jays to be in contention at the break, then trade a Sanchez and Tirado, both having a great year, for a rental? And then the Jays fall out of it lol Such a common scenario....

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 bump Answer: Keep Reyes, Melky and Bautusta healthy Let Edwin just do his thing Find a quality starter from within or via trade market Weed out the bullpen (pretty much done actually) Stay calm
